Took the risk and booked flights from seat at the match with 3/4 mins left to play.

£310 leave Manc 2pm Wed arrive Athens 11pm, leave Athens 9am Fri arrive Manc 3pm.

Got a BASIC room for £40 for 2 nights right by the bus stop for the airport (24hr bus service so cheap transfers) and only 0.8 mile from the stadium.

Solo traveller tho this time.
Do you by any chance work for the POTATOMAN?

You can be there for 0500 in the morning for a half 6 flight. Half an hour through security max at that time and then off to the gate with a quick pint on the way!!

Went to Istanbul, but can't make Athens.
Really enjoying everyone's plans to get there.

I hope we get through to the group stages so I can enjoy another trip, but one thing is for sure, I've had more fun this season already than in a host of other seasons put together.

Where you heading to Manchester from? We’re driving from Colne at that time, flying to Thessaloniki at 6.30, have space for 2.

Love reading all these travel plans, so jealous but just can't get the time off work.
Will make do with a trip to Fulham, which is a great day out.
Have a great time in Athens everyone who's going.

Also they said no bags at turkey but you could leave them on the coach. Some actually got bags in though. Loyalclaret did and think I read he was on a similar trip...

As long as its relatively small and doesnt contain much you should be OK I think.
I’m having to go back via Barcelona (at considerable expense). There just doesn’t seem to be an early direct flight sadly :? Thank you for the info re Turkey

Sure I would have been able to leave on coaches as there was value in it, only thing they referred to supervisor was a bag of crisp.

[resists urge to check early Friday return flights]
Yeah I think I’ll leave them on the coach. As you say I’m not taking much at all, valuable items will be kept on my person. Thanks for your help

Going from Heathrow via Zurich at 6am on Weds and returning the same way at 6.30 on Fri. I'll be getting a late train to Euston on Tuesday night and hopefully grabbing a couple of hours shut eye in departures before the flight.

Based on the majority of pessimistic end of the world posts on here following one defeat, I've decided to auction my flights and hotel in Athens, save me the misery of watching my team play in Europe for the first time in my 50 year lifetime, can't see how I could possibly enjoy it after today

Dont worry the match was always likely gonna be sh*t but the atmosphere drinking in the bars all day and then in the stands will be fantastic even if we play our B team and hoof it around trying to get a 0-0.

I cant wait till Wednesday to fly out and whilst I hope we play well, get a result and its an entertaining game it will have minimal baring on how much I enjoy the overall experience

Haha. You’d think reading this board today there’d be a queue of people changing their minds about Athens.

I’ll open the bidding with a tenner.

(Ps Istanbul was amazing ...despite a pretty uninspiring 90 mins of football. It was almost good enough for me to sacrifice my marriage and fly out to Athens this week!. Have a ball and remember never to read this board after a defeat  )

I'm fully intending to enjoy the experience, a city I've never been to with the added attraction of watching my team playing there. Aberdeen was great, couldn't make Istanbul due to previously booked holiday, so really up for this week now. Was just making a point about the ridiculous negativity after one bad performance.

Getting really excited about next week now, whatever happens.

Following a bit of research I have discovered that Athens has a couple of micro breweries doing decent craft beer, and there are one or two decent craft beer bars / restaurants close to Monastiriki and Syntagma. Perfect.

Love a decent ale myself but with temperatures in the 30s it's hard to beat a cold lager (good quality one)

Is anyone actually going hoping or thinking they will see free flowing football?

I'm going to see my team play in Europe, have a great few days abroad, drinking and enjoying myself with friends. Yes I'm looking forward to it, and yes I hope we turn in a good display, but if it us a negative result, it won't take anything away from the experience.

If anything these trips are free hits, and the result is the least of the priorities.
Get there, enjoy yourself, get on the game, stay safe and get home is the main objective.

I see that, but a stone cold tropical pale ale, IPA or sour would also hit the spot in the heat. Beertime just north of Monastiriki has some crackers. Lager hunters though could find it all over.

I’m driving to Manchester airport on Wednesday morning from Barrowford around 0415 - have space for a couple of passengers if anybody needs a lift?

Likewise coming back - Friday, I land at 1750.

One thing 100% guareteed is that you won't see free flowing football from Burnley. We will play exactly like we did against the Turks, and if it gets us a result I shall be more than happy

Anyone who is on a tight schedule on Thursday pre book a taxi. Athens airport is huge. At least a 20 minute walk to get out even without a case and we went straight through passport control.
50 quid for a minibus of 6. Could take 8 and took 30 minutes to Glyfada.
