What brilliant news. I can see the possibility of a 3 5 2 formation in some games, especially with Hendrick freed up from the No 10 role.

Superb news. The 2 central defender spots will certainly be tough competition this season. And upfront. And in central midfield now Hendrick will be moved back. And... well... everywhere!

Does this put to bed the "Mee isn't injured, he isn't playing because he is leaving" rumours from April/May to bed then?
Fantastic news to read this. Absolutely key to the Dyche philosophy at Burnley.

Re: ARTICLE: More of Mee at Burnley
The number of people who actually believed that. It was probably the same people who had believed he was on his way a year ago when he suffered a similar injury. I wasn't aware until last week that he was signing the new deal but I knew back in April/May that he was actually injured and I also knew that contract or no contract he wouldn't be moving this summer.Herts Clarets wrote:Does this put to bed the "Mee isn't injured, he isn't playing because he is leaving" rumours from April/May to bed then?

Re: ARTICLE: More of Mee at Burnley
Slightly worried at times, but not overly so. I had my fingers crossed that everything had been sorted and the club were simply holding back the news so they could use it to soothe the sting of a potentially bad window.
Our performance in the window has turned around with the three incomings, so far, so that is no longer necessary.
Fantastic news, what a player, what a bloke and what a defence. Really happy to hear that Mee has signed for 3 years and committed his future to the club, one of my favourite players.
Onwards and upwards, next stop the England team, providing that Southgate wakes up to what he is missing out on.

Re: ARTICLE: More of Mee at Burnley
I like Mee and we need him and his style suits ours down to the ground. But England Squad, I'm not so sure. Both games against Aberdeen His distribution was slow and ponderous but that is nothing new. Do you think he can improve that weakness to the level required to be an international footballer?. I'm not so sure.Long Time Lurker wrote:Slightly worried at times, but not overly so. Re: ARTICLE: More of Mee at Burnley
Southgate is a little pre-occupied with distribution. And yet, despite the emphasis on distribution we scored very few goals in the World Cup from open play.RocketLawnChair wrote:I like Mee and we need him and his style suits ours down to the ground. The primary job of a defender is to put it all on the line and stop the other team scoring. That is Mee to a tee.
Ben always gets off to a bit of a slow start. Playing in front of a different keeper and all the jibber jabber surrounding his contract hasn't been ideal. His distribution showed real signs of improvement last season so he is obviously working very hard on it.
Will Southgate wake up to the fact that character and defensive ability are more important than distribution?
I'm not so sure.

Re: ARTICLE: More of Mee at Burnley
Mee has the tendency to drop a pass short when he plays it out left, he never seems to have the same issue when he plays it out right or up field but it tends to be when he slides one across to Ward that he occasionally under hits one. I can definitely deal with that though, he's a formidable defender and in my opinion the best signing we've made this window.

Re: ARTICLE: More of Mee at Burnley
Superb news.
Smaller teams in the Premier League tend to struggle if they lose the core of pros who established the culture that gave the team its identity in the first place. We've done a pretty good job of refreshing the squad with characters who retain the same DNA, but keeping someone like Mee at the heart of the team and squad is a pretty essential part of that. The likes of Heaton, Vokes and Barnes are similarly important now the likes of Arfield have moved on.
And he's a superb player (even if I can't quite work out how he and Gibson get into the same team).

Re: ARTICLE: More of Mee at Burnley
As stated before, I'd have been more shocked had he left.
You don't allow someone who's "leaving", "demanding 80k", or "had training ground bust ups" to model the new kit and wear the captain's arm band.

This extension will mean Ben will definitely be installing himself into one of the all-time Claret Greats.
Don't think there's any part of his body he's not blocked a shot with so far.
He can do it all over again now.

Re: ARTICLE: More of Mee at Burnley
Arguably our most important signing this window, vital to retain the core of our promotion side, but also improve the first eleven and the squad, how they are all going to be accommodated we'll have to see,but strength in depth is essential for us to compete on the many different fronts this coming season.

Ben to 'pick-up' where he left last season!
Re: ARTICLE: More of Mee at Burnley
Well chuffed with this. I forgot to mention it on my assessment of the window (on Dead line day thread - sic) but called it early that it would be an unbelievably poor do if we didn't manage it. His growth has been at the same rate as our growth - a match made in heaven. Shame the search facility has gone to sh1t on this board recently.
