But we've now got Vydra in addition to our remaining striker(s) - Barnes!summitclaret wrote:Yes rw at this very moment we have signed the bare minimum, albeit good ones. The balance was tipped in favour of a good window when Ben signed up. However, me thinks the bragging from some is at bit ott atm. Also, it remains to be seen whether the lateness of it all affects tomorrow's performance, and more importantly knocks onto Sunday's. For e.g, we will be down on strikers tomorrow if Sam is out of the picture and possibly Walters. Is Wood fit?

Re: What a bloody window!
Looking less and less likely that any one of them will arrive at TM. I think the arrival of 3 players in as many days understandably whetted the appetite for more but we have to prepare for Southampton and onwards with what we have. A note of caution, however, is currently we have too many players on the sidelines not really having any idea of a return date and the season hasn't started yet.mkmel wrote:Greedy I know but would still like a winger a striker and a central midfielder
Re: What a bloody window!
Agree, it has been a great last week. The signings so far have been excellent.
I still do not approve of playing brinkmanship and leaving all deals to the last week though.

Re: What a bloody window!
Yes, this has been a great window so far, I’d wager one more incoming and a couple of au revoirs.
Let’s turn the clock back a few years. When we first returned to the PL in Dyche’s regime the board said, to paraphrase ‘In no way shape or form shall we jeopardize the clubs financial future’, kudos to the board for standing by their word. However, the marketplace has changed, but the mindset remains the same. Bear with me while I put this in a shopping analogy: We can’t afford to shop at Harrods, Dyche wants to shop at Walmart but the board wants to shop at Pound Store (Dollar Store in my part of the world). I’m sure Dyche had a word with the board and persuaded them to try Walmart, we may find some decent deals. I’m certain both Dyche and the board know their value to each other and Dyche won out in persuading the board to set their sights a little higher.

So we sign 2 players that 99% on here have probably never even heard of before they came here and another player who if any other team had signed him in the Prem, we would be mocking them and it's been a great window!
The Mee re-signing has turned an average window into a okay window so far and again we have strengthened the squad but not necessary the team.

Not when you are now o the pecking order and want a fair price. Clubs want to show to their fans, that they have a replacement n place. That on my changes if they are a. Broke or b. Dazzled by the silly money you offer for a quickie.Roosterbooster wrote:Promptness is also quite a desirable feature

Re: What a bloody window!
It’s been good, but as demonstrated by the fact they we’re down to 17 players for tomorrow, we’re arguably still light in a few areas.
Re: What a bloody window!
It's been a reasonable window but it has really been the minimum that was expected.
A new keeper was a basic requirement with Pope's injury (although I think we've done better than expected there), a centre-half is really a year late and Vydra was making up for the mistake in signing Wells (only the most positive of fans really expected that one to work out).
The fact we've only got one fit, quality winger suggests that we're still a bit lightweight and we're still significantly lacking creativity when Defour isn't fit.l

If you've never heard of Ben Gibson, then you haven't really been paying attention. I assume Hart is the one who you have heard of?BigChaCha wrote:So we sign 2 players that 99% on here have probably never even heard of before they came here and another player who if any other team had signed him in the Prem, we would be mocking them and it's been a great window!

Re: What a bloody window!
Not that light. 17 outfield players - presumably Lowton, Taylor, Cork, Tarkowski, Mee, Gibson, Ward, Bardsley, Long, Hendrick, Westwood, Gudmondsson, Vokes, Barnes, Walters, McNeil, and I don't know who number 17 might be.agreenwood wrote:It’s been good, but as demonstrated by the fact they we’re down to 17 players for tomorrow, we’re arguably still light in a few areas.
Add on 6 unavailable outfield players - Wood, Lennon, Brady, Defour, Vydra, Wells
That's 22 players, with Wells and Walters probably surplus to requirements, and McNeil under 21, so we have 19 valuable squad players for the maximum 22 in the 25-man Premier League squad. Room for 3 more.

We’ll be ok when we’ve got Defour and Walts back. Just missing a bit of experience in the dressing room at the moment.

Re: What a bloody window!
No pace or creativity in the midfield before the window and none after the window. Can't keep relying on the defence. Opposition score 2 its game over, we are never going to score more than 1 goal with this midfield, we simply don't create enough chances.

Suspect Jay Rod's value is now nearer to £25m. He's scoring for fun

I wouldn’t be happy paying £20m for a penalty taker, considering we never get them in the first place.warksclaret wrote:Suspect Jay Rod's value is now nearer to £25m. He's scoring for fun

I bet Garlick is a relieved man that he voted for the transfer window shut early this season and that the dry powder store is well and truely bolted down until January.

We've managed to start the season weaker than we were last season. And some folk were claiming the summer had been a rip-roaring success.

As above, that's 7 PL games without a win and a threadbare squad meant to turn things around. The 2nd half today was a picture of an already tired and jaded team. Stupidity from Lowton only adds to the problems facing us.

Re: What a bloody window!
When we press hard as in the last part of the first half we look good. When we run out of ideas like we did for most of the second half then we look more of a Huddersfield or Cardiff and that's the worry
Lets hope we can look back in a few weeks to say the Watford match helped us get stronger

Re: What a bloody window!
As much as the signings of Rodriguez and Pieters were good and decent value, if that is it and Heaton leaves (and no, I don't count signing the kid to be third choice from Leeds as an addition) then this is even worse than last summer.

Far too much drama queenery on here at the moment.
At the very least wait until the window is actually closed before panicking !
I’m sure everyone wants Heaton to stay.
When I say everyone - i’m obviously excluding one very important person.
