Why no approaches for our players?

Post by LoveCurryPies » Thu Aug 09, 2018 3:30 pm

I'm quite surprised that the Club wasn't inundated with our hard working players. Was expecting to (sadly) lose at least one or two key players. Pretty happy that we haven't.

Perhaps we're difficult to deal with.

Who says we haven’t been?

Maybe we are just good at keeping things under wraps

No surprise really most of the clubs with money to burn look abroad for new signings.

How many British players have Fulham and Wolves signed?

Similar comments apply to Brighton.

Pope got injured so that helped him stay, Tark and Mee signed new deals.

Good point though.
After losing 2 1st team players last summer. Even Ben Mee wasn't really linked anywhere. Defour not really linked abroad.

Great news.

Mee only signed at the 11th hour after none of the bigger clubs showed any interest preferring to look abroad for central defenders.

Do you really believe that or are you happy in your own little bubble?

Our fit players are not really what your average “ money no object “ clubs are after . We don’t offer continental style flair or drama queens or diving prima donna type players that down tools when it’s muddy and cold . It’s an edge I’m glad we have as we have a set of players who fight for the shirt and a manager they’ll ride into hell naked for .

The evidence certainly suggests Ben was looking for bigger fish to fry.

. thinks it might have something to do with two things:

1. Burnley are not short of money these days so won’t be needing to offload on the cheap anymore.

2. A couple of clubs have been stung recently spending big here and getting garbage (Keane & Gray).

Because the clever football people know that some of our players don't function too well outside of our framework.

The transfer window doesn't close for contract extensions. Mee signed with 11 months to spare.

Yes, given most the squad are overseas it felt somewhat safe to ask why no approaches. Or have there been many?

We had enquiries about Heaton, Mee, Pope, Vokes, Walters & Wells. Defour, Brady and then Heaton & Pope injured/recovering so would be unable to pass a medical. Lowton, Tarkowski, Barnes, JBG all signed new contracts in the last few months. Taylor, Wood, Cork, Westwood and Lennon all signed recently enough to not interest potential buyers. Bardsley & Ward a bit long in the tooth to be sought after. Hendrick hasn't pushed his agent to drum up a move.

Anyone else just hasn't had the opportunity yet to show their value to our 1st team let alone anyone else's.
