Fortunately I don’t imagine the players and management have been sat nervously waiting in anticipation of your review of the opening night.

The game totally passed certain players by. It's hard to criticise Barnes or Vokes when they got absolutely zero service all night. Westwood and Hendrick were completely anonymous and Walters just seemed to want to go to ground as soon as the ball got anywhere near him. Taylor looked a weak point but he'll get better with age. The rest were solid and they needed to be!

Hart 7
Bardsley 7
Tarkowski 7
Mee 8
Taylor 6
Gudmundsson 6
Cork 6
Westwood 4
Walters 4
Hendrick 4
Barnes 6

Vokes 6

I only saw the second half on youtube.

I thought Basaksehir looked a neat, tidy, and honest side with a little bit of attacking threat and a goalkeeper who came far out for crosses. But the big consideration must surely have been the conditions. It looked hot and sweaty. The home side must be used to that, we not so much. Add that to the not ideal team selection and I think we can all be very pleased with the result and defensive performance. I was disappointed that when we got a free kick, which seemed our only way of getting the ball in dangerous situations, we did nothing with them.

Hart 7 Did all asked of him
Bardsley 6 decent
Tarkowski 7
Mee 7
Taylor 6
Walters 6 did ok out 9f position for his first 90 minutes in probably a while
Westwood 6
Cork 6
JBG 6
Hendrick 5
Barnes 5

Vokes 5

Offensively we were miles off the pace, however it was a patched up team, so it's to be expected some what.
They were a decent outfit, who could have had 1 or 2 goals, with a few close shaves, so to keep them to nil has to be a real positive.
It's a 1 game shoot out now, and if you'd have offered me any win for us at Turf Moor to progress pre match, I'd have taken it.

The bread and butter is the league, and our thoughts need to be on the 100%, so to get players playing regularly who normally wouldn't, and not rushing those out injured is a balancing act.

Let's hope it pays off Sunday.

I thought the entire back four were excellent with the two central defenders outstanding. With a rushed together team, against a very good technical and experienced Turkish side, I thought we did as well as we could have expected. I find the 5s and even 4s hard to believe to be honest, and certainly with any of the back four.

Decent away performance, we won't know until next week whether 0-0 is a good result.

Good to see Walters slot in and do a steady job, completely forgotten about him but you'd never have guessed he'd hardly played for a year. Not much going forward but hopefully if we ever manage to get Brady, Defour, Wood and Vydra fit and on the pitch that would all change.

I think we were trying to keep us in the tie with an ultra-defensive set-up. It worked. Whether it was good enough overall will be played out next week.

Streamed it so had to suffer a few time outs..all in all a satisfactory result against a high pressing technically adept side.

Good result. Good defensive display. No creativity at all. Need Defour back for a bit of class. If Walters is the answer to anything I’m not sure what the question is...

A shame we can’t take a risk of trying to get an away goal in the 88th minute. There’s a fine line between being risk averse and downright negative. At that moment I was unsure that the £500+ had been worth it. Away goals are important in Europe and so I would rather have risked a late flurry tbh. If they get an early one at the turf I think we may regret that approach.
