England v India 2nd Test at Lords
The first day was washed out yesterday so it's become a four day game.
Joe Root has won the toss and put India in to bat.

In damp English conditions at Lord's Anderson is a master bowler, makes me feel sorry (nearly) for the Indian batsmen.

Might well reach 550 by the end of this Test,it's swinging and seaming not easy batting conditions,if we can get Kohli cheaply we could roll them over for less than 150 today,if the bloody rain stays away.

He’s going to have to wait for the next Test match following that run out. Kohli absolutely stuffed Pujara there. Be a slightly fraught atmosphere at the moment in the Indian dressing room.ClaretTony wrote:Just 18 more wickets now for Jimmy to pass McGrath

Ridiculous to come in like that for a couple of balls and lose a wicket in that way - will be a lively dressing room in the rain

Re: England v India 2nd Test at Lords
That reminds me of a story I heard years ago when Indian batsmen first encountered the raw pace of Fred Trueman. Wickets fell rapidly as Trueman tore into them and Nari Contractor was eventually at the crease. The umpire politely asked Contractor what guard he would like to which he replied in also polite but broken English, ' a bloody big one between me and that mad ******* with the ball'. Always made me smile anyway.CleggHall wrote:In damp English conditions at Lord's Anderson is a master bowler, makes me feel sorry (nearly) for the Indian batsmen.

Not much play, but India 61/5. Kohli gone as well, plus England dropped two slip catches and catch following balls.

Perfect timing.
2 bowls earlier, and England would have had to bat one over this evening.
Well done Jimmy. Only 15 to go to the next landmark now

A good prediction if i do say so myself now all the batters have to do is play sensible cricket tomorrow and England should have a good lead to bowl with, the gods seem to be with England as the forecast tomorrow is sunny and dry conditions, perfect for batting.tiger76 wrote:Might well reach 550 by the end of this Test,it's swinging and seaming not easy batting conditions,if we can get Kohli cheaply we could roll them over for less than 150 today,if the bloody rain stays away.

Re: England v India 2nd Test at Lords
His next notable landmark may well be 100 wickets at Lords.
He had 94 before today (in 43 innings) so 99 now and every chance of making that 100 in this game.
Broad (78) is next down the list) with Botham & Freddie T after that- so it'd be a fantastic achievement to get 100.
He was top class today, Woakes was excellent too & got the vital Kohli wicket.

Woakes was probably the star, just had nine drop catches to deal with.

Re: England v India 2nd Test at Lords
Just saw the highlights last night, cracking bowling performance by our lads at Lords.
Jimmy Anderson was unplayable at times, a great display of swing bowling, and another five wickets.
Chris Woakes was excellent also and he got the really valuable wicket, and Broad and Curran looked the part in a strong foursome, albeit in favourable conditions.
The batsmen gotta do their bit today, and attempt to establish a decent lead... no mid-order collapse please.
I think English cricket is very much on the up,.. got to improve consistency against the strongest international competition.

Not managed to catch any of it today.
Looks like Bairstow & Woakes have turned the screw on them nicely.

Faultless innings from Woakes, just a pity Bairstow couldn't join him on the honours board, but he did look tired coming off!

Yep. Always a bit disappointing when someone falls just short of a Test ton anywhere really.Stevie2112 wrote:Faultless innings from Woakes, just a pity Bairstow couldn't join him on the honours board, but he did look tired coming off!
But think the name in the Longroom means a bit more than most.

India getting it all wrong, abject batting, picking 2 spinners at Lord's was crazy, a dispirited bunch, how are they no 1 in world?

Re: England v India 2nd Test at Lords
To truly claim the top spot in Test cricket you have to beat Australia in Oz,and England in blighty,it's fine rolling teams over on spinning dustbowls, but the true test is can you tour successfully in difficult environments, the West Indies achieved this in the 1980's,Australia in the 1990's and briefly England in the late 2000's.
Until India perform home and away the jury is still out on their claim to be the best side in world cricket, this could be applied to most Test sides at the present time,England included.

Why have England not declared? Especially with the forecast.

Root isn't as good a captain as he is just a batsmen.Foulthrow wrote:Why have England not declared? Especially with the forecast.
Poor decision IMHO.
Re: England v India 2nd Test at Lords
He is a far better captain that Cook was at the same stage and Cook turned into a half decent captain.Root isn't a good a captain as he is just a batsmen.

I'm sure the captain doesn't make the decision to declare or not without talking to the management team and his colleagues.
Re: England v India 2nd Test at Lords
61/5 Kohli gone.
Broad has 3, this will be over very soon I'd have thought
