Most capped X1

Post by piston broke » Fri Aug 10, 2018 11:48 am

I mentioned on the match thread that at some point last night we must have had our most capped X1 ever on the field.
I wrote in our first SD promotion season how excited I was because we had a team mixed between promotion experience(Jones,Shackell,Wallace etc.,) and hungry young players with U21 caps(Trips Mee). To have gone from that fine side to this cap laden side in such a short time is amazing.
It is possible that at some point this season we could line up:
Hart.......75
Bardsley..13
Long.......7
Tarkowski.1
Ward......49
JBG.......69
Defour....52
Hendrick.39
Brady.....39
Vokes.....59
Wood.....56
a grand total of 459 caps between them.
Subs
Lindegaard..5
Cork..........1
Lennon......21
Walters.....53
Vydra........20. would add another 100

Amazing times.

No, but I might start. All that European experience for a club with no recent European experience.

Yeah, and the difference between us and the top 6 is most of our internationals play for poor teams whilst theirs are playing for good ones.

Why are we only using 5 subs? Wells would add another 9 caps to the bench. Don't think any others have played a full international although some have played at youth levels.

Wouldn't class the two teams that finished 3rd and 4th in the last world cup as poor ;)

No, but our players didn't play ;)

Don't get me wrong, it's a good thing, better than we would have imagined but we still aren't anything more than prime relegation candidates. We wouldn't be if our internationals played key roles for better teams.
