House of Fraser a name to conger class, style and elegance. Used to love going around House of Pendle as a kid. Mike Ashley is a name too.

That's why they are struggling. These rich types are having to tighten theirs because of all the austerity going around - don't forget we are all in this together.Dyched wrote:£90?

Online shopping is what is killing off a lot of these shops.houseboy wrote:That's why they are struggling. These rich types are having to tighten theirs because of all the austerity going around - don't forget we are all in this together.
I liked a hoody in Tessuti last week - tried it on and whilst still looking around the shop I found it for £65 cheaper online....... the internet is a glorious thing.

Re: Ashley buys House of Fraser
A couple of years ago I was in Harvey Nichols in Manchester with my wife and one of my daughters (killing time not actually intending to buy anything) and while they were browsing I noticed a pair of women's shoes, very nice shoes that seemed to be covered in semi-precious stones of various colours. Out of interest I took a closer look and they were indeed very beautiful. I picked one up wondering just how much they might be and nearly dropped the bloody thing when I saw the price.....£999. Yes, a bloody quid short of a grand, for something that you walk around on and could tread in dog sh!te. I also saw a bottle of after shave identical to the one I was using at the time and it was £99 (it was Diesel and it doesn't cost that in Boots)).bfccrazy wrote:Online shopping isn’t what is killing off a lot of these shops.

Will the staff at House of Fraser now be treated the same as the staff at Sports Direct?ClaretTony wrote:Mike Ashley has today bought House of Fraser for £90m.

I think a lot of it is tagging yourself on Facebook/snapchat/Instagram there or walking about with a little yellow Selfridges bag nowadays. All about status ...houseboy wrote:A couple of years ago I was in Harvey Nichols in Manchester with my wife and one of my daughters (killing time not actually intending to buy anything) and while they were browsing I noticed a pair of women's shoes, very nice shoes that seemed to be covered in semi-precious stones of various colours. I’ve spent a fair whack on trainers tbh but wouldn’t buy them in those shops as they’d cost an extra £100 for the priveledge of being followed around the shop like I’m going to steal something or have the staff there look at you as if they own the place and you’re lucky to be in there
Re: Ashley buys House of Fraser
Are House of Fraser and Debenhams linked in any way?
If so doesn't Ashley already own some of Debenhams?

MA owns 29.7% of Debenhams, according to the intershed.

We're hoping here in Skipton that he will (fingers crossed ) keep it to a good quality department store, the premises are in such a focal point of the town.

Re: Ashley buys House of Fraser
Mike Ashley a dirty word in Newcastle. Fat Barrow Boy is what they call him. They want to know why that 90 mill isn't going into NUFC coffers. They are deluded. They still think they are a big club. It's not looking good for them.
Re: Ashley buys House of Fraser
You've got that back to front. They'll be thinking. 'so that's where the 23 million net profit went this transfer window' but secretly hoping that some house of Fraser advertising appears at st James's instead of the sports direct tat.Healeywoodclaret wrote:Mike Ashley a dirty word in Newcastle. Re: Ashley buys House of Fraser
Mike Ashley says he wants to turn HoF into the "Harrods of the High Street." Anyone any idea what that means?
At £90 million MA has paid a lot more than Philip Green got when he sold BHS to the other guy, I think that was £1, yes just 1 single British pound. And, then a bit later BHS went bust.
It's tough business running a retail store these days. On-line shopping has taken over, no longer just competing with the high street stores. It's too late trying to put the "cork back in the bottle."
