Interesting targets for Wolves and their manager.Wolves have set themselves the ambitious goal of winning the Premier League within seven years.
Fosun International, the group that owns the club, has given its management team a number of demanding internal targets including a top-ten finish this season, their first in the top flight since 2012, before qualifying for the Champions League in subsequent seasons and the ultimate ambition of winning the title in the next seven years.
Nuno Espírito Santo, the head coach, has been backed in the transfer market with £70 million spent on new signings that means he will be under pressure to match the club’s big ambitions

We can probably expect to see a number of managers come and go while they fail to achieve these targets.

Top 6 is certainly realistic when you throw enough money at the wall. A player fails? No problem - ship them out and buy another.

Even with big-spending it will be difficult for them too compete for the title, first season up top ten would be decent and then build from there, they are trying to run before they can walk.

They won't win the title unless Pep goes abroad. Or they'll pay him a billion a year to take charge.tiger76 wrote:Even with big-spending it will be difficult for them too compete for the title, first season up top ten would be decent and then build from there, they are trying to run before they can walk.

Top ten first season would be outstanding, regardless of how much they've spent. How many teams have finished top ten in their first season recently?tiger76 wrote:Even with big-spending it will be difficult for them too compete for the title, first season up top ten would be decent and then build from there, they are trying to run before they can walk.

Idiots. Not a cat in hell’s chance.
They’ll be closer to relegation than the top ten this season.

Re: Targets set for Wolves by Fosun over next 7 years.
It’s not that unrealistic tbh. 7 years is along time in football. Chelsea will be the same great season, shite the next few. Spurs? Doubt they’ll be as strong? City? Pep will be gone by then, won’t be as strong. Utd/Arsenal god knows how they’ll be.
It’s not too hard to imagine a top 10 this year. 7th the next. Then 5th/4th/3rd/2nd/1st
They most important seasons are the next 2. Hit their target for them and the bigger, better players will come.

Interesting to see how the manager gets on on the touchline this season, especially if decisions don't always go his way. He rubbed a lot of people up the wrong way in the Championship with his arrogance and ignorance.

Idiots for showing ambition, how is their not a cat in hell's chance? How do you think City suddenly won a title? The owners came in and spent a fortune, any club can do it with the right financial backing. If Accy Stanley found a billionaire owner who was prepared to throw billions at it, they could build whatever team they wanted, money talks.BurnleyFC wrote:Idiots. Not a cat in hell’s chance.

Enjoy it whilst it last cos Dyche wont be here forever and Whilst Wolves might be throwing money at it and competing at the top of the Prem league if we keep our prudent sensible approach in 10 years time there's a good chance we'll be a league 1 side albeit a stable and financially well run oneandyh wrote:Shame there are others trying just as hard. Re: Targets set for Wolves by Fosun over next 7 years.
In what way. Im not having a go at our approach but its true that the main reason we are surviving and flourishing in this league with our approach is almost solely down to Dyche and how great a manager he is.
We will slip out of the league once Dyche goes and once the Parachute payments run out our revenue will equate to a League 1 team especially if a lot of other Championship owners are throwing money at it. Its logical that if we dont invest any of the owners money then we will naturally fall to a level where we can compete on transfers and wages which will be League 1

What a weak argument to try and undermine Leicesters fantastic achievement and with that logic you could argue that we only came 7th because the teams like Everton, West Ham and Southampton were is disarray last season.Spijed wrote:Leicester winning the league only happened because every other team at the top was in disarray with managerial changes.

Did they say that? That result was a shock to everyone in football, the exception that bucks the trend. Very very few teams can manage it. How many English sides have made the top 4 in the last 10 years?SGr wrote:People laughed in 2015 when Leicester’s said they wanted Europe in 5 years...

No I dont, if there are things I think we can do better or if there are things Im not happy with I will express my opinion but the 2nd half of last season is the most excited ive been about Burnley for a long time due to the prospect of coming 7th.Spijed wrote:Well you've constantly downplayed our own success to the point you seem to take pleasure in any downturn we have.
I constantly express the view of what we have done in the last 5 years is amazing but because I am able to hold this view without being 100% positive of absolutely everything to do with Burnley people like you cant comprehend this and have this view im just negative and a moaner.
Like how you conveniently avoided my point and just switched to a personal attack instead

Wolves spend £70m in a Summer the big boys spend that on a player.
Still no reason why it should work. Starting out with a bunch of strangers and no team spirit.
This is why SD only wants 3 or 4 a year and not all of them go straight into the team.

Re: Targets set for Wolves by Fosun over next 7 years.
Only seven teams have won the 1st Division/ Premier League since 1990; three of those only once each.
Liverpool, Everton and Spurs have been ever presents in that time and haven't won it.
The odds are massively against Wolves bucking that trend anytime soon.
There's nothing wrong with having ambition but setting unrealistic targets can surely only work against them.

Setting unrealistic targets also gives the owners the perfect excuse to change manager whenever they feel a target isn’t, or hasn’t been achieved. So no pressure on him before they’ve even kicked a ball.

Im not being a "doomsayer" at all. Im just being realistic and my first point was enjoy it while it lasts because I think what we are achieving and what Dyche is giving us is unbelievably good. I guess some people just think because we are a well run club this will go on forever well it wont because managers like Dyche come about once in a blue moon.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote:As and when Dyche goes the club will be a far more attractive managerial proposition then it has been for a long time.

Re: Targets set for Wolves by Fosun over next 7 years.
Leicester were remarkably like us defensively, but with lightening break-out speed, a midfield that were able to provide the vision, and a principle striker with confidence he would finish every time. We have half of that formula.
Leicester still have Vardy, but that midfield supply chain is the missing ingredient now for them. This, coupled with other teams have learnt how to deal with the model, so it’s no longer a surprise
