I watched a film called Mudbound recently. It was about slavery in Misissippi. They should have made some of the slaves white to show a fair cross section of modern society

Elba is a top class actor without a doubt but shouldn’t be Bond for me. I had issues when Daniel Craig got it, as he has fair hair!

. He’s been good though I have to say. It should stay as Ian Fleming described him.

I think I do not like the news surfacing on Idris Elba as the new James Bond. I am not saying in anyway that he is not good, but I just cannot register him to be playing the 007. I started watching James Bond movies when Pierce Brosnan played the super agent and then came Daniel Craig, who I believe to be the best individual to play the character. He has that bling in him, and it self portrays that he is really a secret agent the 007. Idris Elba Naaah..

What if the first James Bond was cast to a black actor and we are here, now, discussing the merits of changing to a white actor - would there be the same objections or support for the change as there are for changing from white to black?

for me - its a fictional character and can be portrayed by anyone suited to the role.

You seem to be saying that Bond shouldn’t be played by a black actor as he’s presumably described (using words) as white in the source material, but it’s ok with Deadshot as the only way we know he’s a white character is the pictures of him which make up the source material.

That doesn’t make much sense to me so perhaps you can explain what I’m missing.

Deadshot has been portrayed as white and masked. They're is no consistent image. This is often the case in comics as each artist applies their own twist to the characters they draw.

James Bond has had a reasonably detailed description in the original works that has largely been stuck to for over 20 films and 50 years.

Someone has brought their oranges to compare with everyone else's pears.

As far as I’m aware, Deadshot has been consistently portrayed as white in the comics and - speaking more generally as I’m not a huge Deadshot fan - different artists’ versions of comic book characters tend to vary less from artist to artist than the variation between Roger Moore and Daniel Craig, for example.

As I said, also been portrayed as masked where you cannot tell what ethnicity the character is. And that’s the style that Will Smith’s Deadshot was based on.

I’ve not seen Suicide Squad, but there’s loads of pictures of Will Smith as Deadshot without a mask on, so his Deadshot is clearly not based on an always-masked version of the character.

I think even in works of fiction wearing a mask in prison is frowned upon.

But it still wouldn't matter. That cartoon version could be any ethicity. The casting for that film isn't inappropriate.
