Absolutely solid as a rock
Absolutely solid as a rock
When you look at the way Wolves defended yesterday, for example, and us in our game we are simply light years ahead.
Can't see us losing many this season, especially away from home.
And creating chances too, which is a nice bonus!

Great point on the back of a journey into Europe midweek.
2 clean sheets in 2 difficult games.

Played well and created some clear chances, they finished strongly but we more than deserved the point and clean sheet.

Tarkowski was absolutely immense. England centre half to be.
Re: Absolutely solid as a rock
Very solid, but the areas we thought we were light in, shows we are.
Need Vydra, Defour and Brady back up to speed asap, as we look good until we reach the last 3rd, then it seems the wrong option is taken, or that bit of quality isn't there.
Take a point every day of the week away from home.
forget that 1 now, 7 days now to get some bodies back.

I want goals but sounds like we created some chances, which alongside looking solid defensively, is a big positive in this league.
Vydra, Defour, Brady fit and hopefully that’ll give us more of a cutting edge without hampering us defensively.
We do have to be clinical when we get the chances and have spells of prolonged pressure.

When brady is fit though who gets dropped?
Jbg always looks like he's going to make something happen. I'd like the only changes to start with to be Westwood for defour and vydra for Hendrick.

Re: Absolutely solid as a rock
The goal Cork had chalked off hurts but overall a fair result. They finished strong after all the substitutions.
Heaton & Gibson on the bench can only give us confidence should Hart, Mee or Tarks go down.

Re: Absolutely solid as a rock
Certainly don't see the saints going down? Relegation favs in your eyes you mean? Ings is a great signing for them thought he changed the game tbh.But they have at least half a dozen players there that I like the look of.On our note we played well should of won really, but they had a real go in last half hour but we showed how good we are at the back we are better than ever there now.Likeavydra wrote:last season win at the champions this season draw at relegation favourite.

There isn't a CB pairing in the league better than Mee and Tarkowsky. Some as good, but none better.

Got to agree with RV, Tarks was immense today. He won a few tackles he had no right to. Ben was outstanding too. When Hart was called on he looked solid. Great result which gives me confidence

Problem.with that is he will be a target for a top three club soon.

Agree, looked solid as ever today.
Little lacking going forward but we have some creative players to come back.

Re: Absolutely solid as a rock
I thought that was a very good away performance, and we could easily have come back with a win. Some good slick passing in the first half, couple of good stops from their keeper and the usual onside goal chalked off for offside (how many times did that happen last season?) and yes, very solid when they put us under pressure in the second half. Very encouraging on the first Thursday / Sunday combination of games.

I never want to see Tarks punch a ball into the crowd again.
He’ll say he heard the whistle but it could have come from the crowd.
I didn’t hear the whistle and was bricking it.

Re: Absolutely solid as a rock
First half we were excellent, some nice football played, bossed posession and were really unlucky not to score. Lennon simply needed to lift his head for a second and the square ball was on for a tap in. Keeper made a few good saves from them too. We pressed brilliantly up to about 60 minutes. Started mostly by Hendrick Who did that really well today. But then the legs went, JBG was goosed at the end, needed a direct replacement for him a little earlier in the half which we don’t have at the moment. Take into consideration the Europa tie where we chased shadows most of the game then it’s a decent result, unlucky not to get the win! UTC
Re: Absolutely solid as a rock
We created a lot of chances in the first half, didn't think Wood had a particularly good game. Defensively we were brilliant.
Thought the referee was a right HOMEr though... :@

Re: Absolutely solid as a rock
Superb 1st half performance and unlucky not to be in front
Understandably (given the game Thurs), Cork and Westwood tired in the 2nd half which invited Saints on to us
No midfielders on the bench says a lot about our lack of recruitment in this key area
Special mention to Hendrick - gets a lot of stick but played as well as most today

Interesting to see people wanting Vydra fit, yet to play for us and already he's the one to save and change us

My preference would be Brady for Lennon and Gudmundsson on the right. Hopefully Vydra can bring something more offensively to the role Hendrick plays, without it significantly impacting our defensive qualities.WazzaClaret wrote:When brady is fit though who gets dropped?

It’s some guile and creativity centrally that I think we miss and hopefully, this may benefit wood too. Whilst he does run the channels, I don’t think this is his key strength.

Re: Absolutely solid as a rock
To be be fair we were only under any sustained pressure after Ings came on. Whereas on Thursday I was watching the match from behind the sofa, today I thought we were really impressive, just lacking a bit cutting edge.jojomk1 wrote:Superb 1st half performance

We should have been out of sight before they changed their shape. Still, we woukd have all take a point before the game.

Re: Absolutely solid as a rock
Thought we outplayed them until Ings came on (I would have loved to have signed him), and could have been two or three up . Get Brady and Defour fit, plus the new signings, we will be fine.
