Heaton
Are his days as a Claret numbered? Evidently fit as a sub but appears to be behind Hart at the moment.
What's the pecking order when Pope returns?

Re: Heaton
Hart, Heaton, Pope.
Heaton or Pope cannot sustain 3rd choice, it is inconceivable, but a good headache to have as a club.

Dyche usually has a simple approach in these situations - play well and keep the shirt.

Re: Heaton
Harts number one now. And with good reason.
Dyche is very loyal to players but not at the expense of the teams success. We see that when players are out of contract.
Heatons a class act. And one of my favourite ever burnley players is. But fact is he hasnt played for a year. Harts fit and has more pedigree than any keeper we have ever had. I am still amazed we have him.
I am convinced under Dyche he will become the leagues best keeper.

Hart is younger than Heaton too, if you can imagine that.
I have a theory that Hart will get his confidence back and become a sought after keeper again in a year or two, and we will make a big profit on him. He will only be 33 when his contract expires, a good age for a keeper.

Re: Heaton
Joe Hart is our most expensive goalkeeper. How did we sign him for just £3.5 million, when Chelsea and L'pool have been buying at £70+ million? OK, Hart has had 2 weak seasons.Granny WeatherWax wrote:Dyche has explained his reasons for playing Hart which are perfectly sound.
Nick Pope injured in first game against Aberdeen. Tom Heaton carrying a bit of an injury. But, Anders Lindergard did OK taking over for Pope at Aberdeen and again in the 2nd leg. And, Tom is now back fit to play. So, we only had one game in Istanbul - how did we know we'd be short of keepers and needed to sign Joe Hart? Or, is it just a great trade? When Nick Pope is fit - assuming both Joe and Tom remain fit - we may have 1 keeper more than we need.
From BBC's report on today's game:
Joe Hart says he has "walked into a nest of top goalkeepers" and has to be on his toes after impressing on his Burnley Premier League debut against Southampton.
The former England number one produced several second-half saves to keep a second successive clean sheet for the Clarets, after his £3.5m move from Manchester City last Tuesday.
"I am so pleased to have signed here permanently," added the 31-year-old.
"It's obvious the love I had for Man City, but I had to cut ties with them to flourish, so I'm over the moon to be here and it's down to me now."
Hart is competing with England goalkeepers Nick Pope and Tom Heaton for the keeper's jersey, although the former is sidelined with a shoulder injury sustained against Aberdeen in July.
Joe Hart: 2 clean sheets in 2 games. We can't ask any more than that from a keeper.

Personally, I'm not arsed about "making a big profit on him", as long as he keeps numerous clean sheets.

I'd play Heaton Thursday. Assuming he's 100%.
Re: Heaton
Joe Hart is a top class keeper but Tom is everything that is good about Burnley. When there was speculation about him going to Everton a few years ago I thought he should go to cement his place in the England team but he stayed loyal to us. He barely ever makes a howler and is supportive to Pope as was proven by voting for him for player of the year.
We are in a wonderful position with 3 super keepers and will be very difficult to beat this year.
I wish them all well but there are going to be some difficult decisions to be made at some point and I am glad it is Sean who will be making them.

Re: Heaton
Wholly depends on Hart`s form allied to his wage demands. If he has blinder after blinder and will accept, let`s say 50,000 a week for a new contract, then he could well become number 1. It is hard though to look past Heaton and Pope as they are `our` players.
I reckon it will go Hart keeps his place for a month or two then `throws in` a couple - replaced by Heaton.
Pope recovers his fitness, can`t get his place back as Heaton is back to his best so moves on in January (would love it NOT to be so but suspect this will happen).
Hart is probably given ALL cup games, sees it out until the end of the season then leaves.
NEXT season Heaton will be No.1 and we will buy a new No.2.

Re: Heaton
I don't really care what happens. We have 3 good keepers so if one goes out of form another one replaces him.
Re: Heaton
I think Hart has been accepted pretty quickly as we were all screaming how Heaton was better a couple of years ago.
Now there's a feeling nobody knows who is the best.
Fantastic for us.
Although when one leaves we won't get the crazy money that is being seen for goalkeepers, because whoever goes will go because they want to play.
We don't have 2nd and 3rd keepers, we have 3 No.1s... you know what I mean

Re: Heaton
Don't see Pope playing befor Jan window so we will have 2 good keepers to vie for a place, then will get more difficult with 3 however don't see any GK going Jan so will be next summer when 1 of the 3 probably will go. The good thing is which ever one goes we will I believe make a good profit and also be seen as a team where you go to improve yourself and move to a bigger team or get a sopt in which ever national squad you are affiliated to.
For now listening/reading what SD said TH is fit again but no real action so was not considered ready for Sunday, Thursday will reveal a little more of this subplot and next Sunday should provide realistic evidence of what SD intends, of course winning or losing Thursday will have some bearing on this outcome.
I hope Pope is our long term view and one of TH/JH will be leaving, but believe we have a season to enjoy before then. Bring it on I say

Re: Heaton
Dyche explained why Heaton didn't start - he's only had 5 days of training in 3 weeks. He's coming back from missing a full year of action and then picking up a niggly injury in pre-season. He needs time to get back to full fitness and full confidence. The best place for him right now is playing behind closed doors games to prove he's ready for the first team. We don't need to rush him back!Claretmatt4 wrote:Are his days as a Claret numbered? Evidently fit as a sub but appears to be behind Hart at the moment.
What's the pecking order when Pope returns?
Hart, on the other hand, had a full pre-season with Man City and got some minutes for them in the US tour. He also made a solid debut for us in Istanbul. No need to leave him out at all. Hart is our number 1 currently. That might change once Dyche feels Heaton is ready, but he clearly doesn't believe he's ready yet. Also, as has already been pointed out, until Hart has a howler it's his jersey to lose - it's the Dyche way.

its now hart's to lose, which is harsh on heaton but that's football. hart seems like he loves it here already and, barring injury, i doubt he'll be losing his place anytime soon.

Re: Heaton
OK, but historically SD is very loyal and while a keeper can, I believe, play Thursday/Sunday he will not want a back up player who has not had real game time (IMO), therefore I think next Sunday it could be TH in goal, but also take your point. Glad it's not a decision I have to make but of course there could be secondary team games played this week that TH could be involved in that I don't know about.
I was under the impression (rightly or wrongly) that Pope and Heaton were subsituted by others as "emergency" players for the Europa squad due to injury and that they could be returned to the squad when fit to do so, hence why I was expecting TH to be available for choice on Thursday

Re: Heaton
As Quoon says. Its pretty simple. Its Harts to lose. And with good reason.
The only way Hart will lose his shirt is through consistent poor performances, injury or suspension.
I am confident that with our defence, our manager, our goalkeeper coach and Harts self confidence and the stability we provide him he will be our number one now.
Arfield, Boyd, Jones, Keane, Ings, Marney etc etc were all big Dyche players. But the minute that they needed to be replaced they were! Dyche is loyal but also very sensible.
Bringing in Heaton now will not be a good thing. Goalkeeper is one position we need stability in.

Can't believe peoples opinion of Tom by many on here.
In my opinion a better keeper than Pope, a captain and talisman of our team.
Should be ahead of Hart no question to me.

Re: Heaton
I think it's you with the memory issues, it's the typical ''players get better while out injured'' we have on here all the time. The same people slagging off Brady's performances before injury are the ones crying how desperate we need him back. Heaton never has been good enough to be England's number one, Pope on the other hand, you could certainly make a better argument for him based on last years form. Hart on the other hand has won league titles and been England's number one keeper for a long part of his career. For me, Pope makes saves Heaton just can't get anywhere near and dominates his area like no other keeper I've seen play for us. The way Pope plays it's almost like he's twice the size of Heaton.superdimitri wrote:Can't believe peoples opinion of Tom by many on here.

I cant believe people are slagging off Hart after todays performance. It was like the Alamo at times today with our pathetic defending and never keeping hold of the ball. In awful conditions I thought he played as well as could be expected. No worse than Heats in the week who didn't set up a wall properly on Thursday and looked a lot like a sack of potatoes diving for the second goal

Goals 2&3 today would expect Pope would have dealt with, Heaton not sure although his general communication/ confidence with back four I think would have been better. Hart is clearly a top class keeper but... his communication with defence is poor and I honestly believe Heaton is the better option until Pope is fit.

For some it's easier to scapegoat Hart for who is at fault for none of the 4 goals than it is to apportion blame to the defence who were at fault for 3 of the 4
