Sounds like she just wants a free holiday. I've never understood the attraction of places like Benidorm. It's ugly as hell.
Re: Why can’t the Spanish go somewhere else for their holidays?”
The Spanish do seem to go on holiday in Mainland Spain or the Balearics these days so they are basically unavoidable in any hotel but to be honest I have never found them to be rude as she says and they usually keep themselves to themselves.
I have only had problems with one nationality while on holiday and that's the bloody French!

It's not just Spain, it's every country you go abroad. There's foreigners everywhere.
It's incredible. Where do these folk come from?
Its a disgrace that these people have the temerity to be there, in their own country,
when all you want to do is have a holiday.
Bastards.

Stupid comment about the SpanIsh but Thomas Cook looks to have mis sold the holiday.
Every hotel is aimed at different nationality's with there entertainment program and they asked for a hotel not on a hill.
If the article is correct of course.

Despite one or 2 odd comments, the old girls seem to have had a raw deal, evidence of mis-selling by Thomas Cook. I hope they put it right for the pensioners.

I assume that you have not come across any Russians yet. What a treat you have in store.

Reminds me of a tripadvisor review I once read of a B& hotel we were thinking of going to in Hisaronu, Turkey.
One woman complained they only did a Turkish breakfast.
A Turkish breakfast in Turkey, outrageous!

Re: Why can’t the Spanish go somewhere else for their holidays?”
If you have the misfortune to stay in a hotel full of Spanish pensioners "on tour" you would think she has a point. They, especially the women, hustle and bustle about the place pushing and shoving with no concept of what a queue is and displaying manners you wouldn't accept from young kids. It is particularly the case in spring, autumn and winter when the Spanish pensionista organisations get incredibly cheap deals. Watching them scramble around a buffet like a swarm of locusts is particularly off-putting.

Having been on holiday with my Granddad many times, I can tell you that pensioners pushing, shoving and not having awareness of others if not unique to our European neighbours

Re: Why can’t the Spanish go somewhere else for their holidays?”
My father was in Japan recently and walking down the main shopping street, asked the rhetorical question "Are all Japanese men shirtlifters?" My American mate is attendance almost p*ssed himself!!!! In fairness to my wonderful father, Japanese men do tend to `up`their hair in a very feminine way. Japan is a fantastic place to visit for tourists with an incredible mix of people but if you do fancy a visit, give it a miss June-September (the Rainy Season and incredibly hot). Late October or early April are prime times.
p.s . Israelis are by far the worst tourists to endure, followed by the Chinese.

Re: Why can’t the Spanish go somewhere else for their holidays?”
I'd like to hear Thomas Cook's side of the story, specifically the agent who booked it !!
Mrs Clarets4me was a Travel Agent for over 10 years, and has a fund of tales about chancers, perenial complainers, downright liars and " champagne tastes on beer money " merchants . Typically, " I've seen it on the internet for £425 " .... " Why didn't you book it ? " .... " Well, that were for late April and Joyce can't get time off " ... " But you want to go 2nd week in August & take Joyce's Granddaughter, so it's now £784 .. " But I've only got £500 max, you're just trying to rip me off ! " ....

We've had a cracking summer this year, she might as well have stayed in Shadsworth if she just wanted a bit of sun and to be surrounded by a load of fellow Brits.

I was at a panda `sanctuary` in Southern China when an Israeli woman poured a bottle of water over a panda to wake it from its slumber so she could get a photo. Possibly the `worst` thing I`ve ever seen whilst travelling.shobian wrote:I would agree with that for sure.

I live on the coast in Southern Spain and during the month of August I can't get a parking spot anywhere near any of my favourite restaurants or bars. I'll be glad when all the Spaniards have buggered off back to Madrid, Zaragosa etc. Inconsiderate bustards.

Re: Why can’t the Spanish go somewhere else for their holidays?”
I live in and run a hotel just outside of the Lake District and honestly you think you’ve seen it all and then something else shoots into view when it comes to dealing with the public.
For example I recently had a vegetarian lady stay (who had made a big fuss about this when she originally booked the room, asking about options for veggies etc). When she came down for her evening meal she asked what vegetarian options we had available. Listed them all to her and gave it to my staff member to pass on to her. She “didn’t like the sound” of any of them and opted to go for a Peppered Chicken Breast! She then had the audacity to send it back because it was too peppery!
In terms of nationalities with online travel agents like booking.com and Expedia we’re now much more visible to the world and get guests from all sorts of backgrounds, countries etc and I would say 9/10 foreign visitors are great just like UK guests. But you do always get a small percentage who are a nightmare; when a Chinese family check in you know that the wi-fi is going to run like a dog (no pun intended) till they check out.

I take it you have never frequented somewhere with other Brits! By far the worse of the lot - especially in places like Benidorm.BigChaCha wrote:

Benidorm has two sides to it. Went on a lads holiday and seen a few sights like you describe.
Went on a family holiday on the outskirts to a lovely hotel complex and visited the beaches (which are as nice as anywhere)a few times. Superb.

Re: Why can’t the Spanish go somewhere else for their holidays?”
Thomas Cook should have charged her double - one fee for the holiday and one for getting her out of Blackburn for a week!!
Re: Why can’t the Spanish go somewhere else for their holidays?”
Blackpool is, and always will be a bigger dump than benidorm..... Plus only went in the Irish league on match days but never had a problem with it...
