The accuracy of our passing in midfield
The accuracy of our passing in midfield
Just like to say how good we've become at moving the ball around midfield at times, with Cork, Westwood, JBG, Hendrick etc. being very slick and snappy with passes to each other. It's noticeable how much better we are as each season goes by and it's a testament to how good SD has made us as a team.

Re: The accuracy of our passing in midfield
At times, our passing is as good as any I have ever seen in 48 years of watching the Clarets.

Forward passing would be even better

I can only agree. I'm not sure if its the limitations of Cork and Westwood in terms of their ability or the system under which they have to perform but we need to see them creating/scoring more if we are to progress.Woodleyclaret wrote:Forward passing would be even better

Re: The accuracy of our passing in midfield
The forward passing game will improve when Defour and Brady are back in the team and we play with a proper number 10 (Barnes or Vydra) behind Wood/Vokes. Having said I thought our midfield functioned well against Southampton .

Re: The accuracy of our passing in midfield
According to the match coverage I watched, Our passing accuracy was 82 percent in the first half yesterday and we’d had more than 60 per cent possession.
I don’t remember ever seeing figures as good as that from a Burnley side.

I was a bit meh about the signing of Westwood. But he in particular has been a revelation, for me.
Long may it last.

Re: The accuracy of our passing in midfield
Am I alone in finding it a bit embarrassing when there’s an audible groan from fans when we happen to pass the ball sideways or backwards though.
A chap next to me kept saying ‘get it up front’ during the Southampton game while we’re knocking it about looking for an opening.
Possession 9/10 of the law and that.

That's why he's sat next to you, and not in the dug-out.Cubanclaret wrote: A chap next to me kept saying ‘get it up front’ during the Southampton game....

To be fair over the last 4 or 5 years Dyche has conditioned us to think this way in true Pavlovs Dog styleCubanclaret wrote:Am I alone in finding it a bit embarrassing when there’s an audible groan from fans when we happen to pass the ball sideways or backwards though.

Hendrick is twice the player when playing centrally alongside these two or Defour.

Re: The accuracy of our passing in midfield
Thats usually me but I didnt get on.
The nonsense slowing down passing across the back instead of getting the ball out wide and attacking with pace is the way to go.Slowing down the game only allows the opposition to regroup.
Liverpool showed the perfect way to play yesterday.

Re: The accuracy of our passing in midfield
The slick passing was mainly down to the work rate of Cork and Westwood. They ran out of steam halfway through the second half which is when the game started to change. We had no one to bring on and chose to go long ball.
The danger is that good as Cork and Westwood are, they will be in danger of burn out, injury or suspension with the current run of competitive games.
We need midfield reinforcements as soon as possible

Re: The accuracy of our passing in midfield
Appreciate he's not in midfield but Lowton is also a good passer once he gets the ball and rarely gives it away. Ward by contrast retains the ball by checking back and giving it to usually Ben Mee

Re: The accuracy of our passing in midfield
Stolen stat from another site.
+1.4 expected goals prevented recorded by Alex McCarthy was the best of any goalkeeper who participated in Gameweek 1
Like Pope and Heaton have done for us in games past; a stand out goalkeeping performance was what kept us from 3 points on Saturday.

I too dislike tippy tappy football and prefer a bit of crash bang wallop but when you look back to Hendricks goal at Goodison it was a goal to behold.
Re: The accuracy of our passing in midfield
I've been commenting on this exact same thing to my daughter. Our passing really is a delight to watch now.

Re: The accuracy of our passing in midfield
Fair point. Our passing was bright, slick and accurate on Sunday. I thought Hendrick especially and Lennon contributed as well as Cork and Westwood. The back 4 were dominant and hardly wasted a ball. Also Wood retained a fair bit of ball especially in the 1st half and linked up well. We went long ball eventually when Barnes and Vokes were up front together. I think we saw plan A in the 1st half and plan B towards the end of the 2nd.IWOODLOVETT wrote:The slick passing was mainly down to the work rate of Cork and Westwood. Re: The accuracy of our passing in midfield
We are a very good team imho
Re: The accuracy of our passing in midfield
Correct. We do lack that creativity. But as SD says a work in progress. I do hope we can sign a top cless midfield player next window.Woodleyclaret wrote:Forward passing would be even better
