I last worked/lived in the UK in 1978. I get a UK pension of £57.48 a week. This amount stays fixed until the clogs pop, no increases ever.Hipper wrote:I got my state pension this year. As I was contracted out for twenty years or so I get £142 a week instead of £163, ............

Re: Pension
Not if you're an MP. MPs get a full year's salary when they leave office, whether voluntarily or they lose their seat, and they get it all tax-free. They felt morally a justified in passing a special MP-only law for that.TVC15 wrote:Up to £30k they are.
(Possibly at the same time as they passed a special MP-only law about not having to pay extra tax on vast pension pots. It's nice being an MP, you can exempt yourself from all sorts of taxes.)

Re: Pension
One of the bonusses of living abroad? Whilst my LCC pension is taxed in UK my OAP is taxed in country of residence. As my OAP is far below Irish threshhold I don’t pay tax on that portion.ElectroClaret wrote:Yes, it is. Think the current income tax free allowance is £11,500. That includes your pension income.
So if you have income from your pension at £8,500, for example, you can earn another £3,000
before you're liable to income tax.

If they are also exempt from the lifetime allowance excess tax that’s a 55% saving on what the public have to pay. F’in criminal.
