Re: Left backs playing left wing...
Showed again he isnt a winger.
Attacking from left back, overlapping etc is completely different to being an out and out winger.
Did his best. But looked like a left back playing left mid in front of a left back.

it is certainly a problem that left hand side as JBG prefers the right, Lennon prefers the right and Brady is injured for god knows how long.

Re: Left backs playing left wing...
I thought it was actually a clever move by Dyche.
They tore us apart down our left last week and had Taylor overlapped loads.
Tonight they had 2 LB’s who were defending to play through every time they tried down that side and just played the ball back or sideways unlike last week.
They weren’t as effective at going forward but they nullified the Turks best outlet from last week very well and frustrated them.

No one nullified Emre. A masterclass at retaining possession, finding space and maintaining momentum. His legs gave up on him in extra time but the previous 90 mins he ran the game.

But we werent or shouldnt have been playing for a nil nil at home in a game where we didnt have an away goal with us.bfccrazy wrote:I thought it was actually a clever move by Dyche.

It was a negative move. And one that meant we had to play 120 minutes. Again.

He was excellent. Almost 40 and by far the classiest player on the pitch.Silkyskills1 wrote:No one nullified Emre. A masterclass at retaining possession, finding space and maintaining momentum. His legs gave up on him in extra time but the previous 90 mins he ran the game.

Didn’t see him having as much effect down our left hand side as he did last week.Silkyskills1 wrote:No one nullified Emre. A masterclass at retaining possession, finding space and maintaining momentum. His legs gave up on him in extra time but the previous 90 mins he ran the game.
He is a different class at what he does still but we got the tactics right down that side today I think.
Re: Left backs playing left wing...
Taylor struggled tonight. He put a shift in but looked like a lost boy at times.

Re: Left backs playing left wing...
We pushed at them with Bardsley going down the other side and tried using Taylor/Ward when we could too. They looked a little lost with who was going to overlap at times but can’t fault them for the defensive display they put it.cricketfieldclarets wrote:But we werent or shouldnt have been playing for a nil nil at home in a game where we didnt have an away goal with us.

If Barnes had bagged the header, Lennon scored his chance, we got the handball in the box ....... it wouldn’t have been extra time...... we didn’t play for a 0-0 tonight - just played to make it harder in what is one of their strong suits.

We were the better team for the first 45. But theres no way on earth playing a left back at left wing ahead of your best winger is a positive move.

Agree to disagree on this one I think.
I said before the game “it’s either a great move or will come back to haunt us”. It stopped them taking the pi$$ down that side well tonight so will say it was a decent move.

Re: Left backs playing left wing...
I guess Dyche is just protecting the workload in the hope we progress and fitting players in where needed for a game will aid that. I think we better get used to it coz I see a similar thing next week in Athens with most of the squad getting a game, like this evening and last week in Istanbul.
Next week will be the hardest of them all though

Re: Left backs playing left wing...
Very little options for us tonight; I think Dyche felt ‘framework’ And direct football was the way to go, and although it wasn’t pretty and we rode our luck at times, he got us through while protecting key players for Sunday.cricketfieldclarets wrote:We were the better team for the first 45. We are allowed to enjoy watching these European players too. A great test for us with bigger challenges to come when hopefully we’ll have more fit players.
Re: Left backs playing left wing...
Apart from Hart & Walters, Dyche played the weakest possible team he had tonight. (Unless he had played the youth team.) All the best players were left out - Mee, Tarkowski, Gudmondsson, Wood, Cork, Lowton - and only Ward, Hendrick, Westwood, and Lennon left in; and Ward was left in only because Taylor was otherwise engaged.
Decision one was that Gudmondsson wasn't going to play, full stop. Decision two was to pick his replacement, and Taylor got the nod ahead of the presumably-injured Walters and the very inexperienced McNeil. Which was why Ward couldn't left out too.

It's touch and go with Brady.diamondpocket wrote:it is certainly a problem that left hand side as JBG prefers the right, Lennon prefers the right and Brady is injured for god knows how long.

I thought he had a good game.
