Part Time Fans

Post by colne-claret » Thu Aug 16, 2018 11:32 pm

What's peoples problem with new fans? One bloke in Cricketfield tonight quizzing people on why they were sat there and calling them part time supporters. I don't get the hate, people have to start somewhere. Do we want 10,000 loyal fans instead of 16,000 with a mix of 'part time supporters'. Baffles me.

It was a bit uncomfortable to be honest. I sat there with my wife. I normally have a season ticket in Jimmy Mac but when she wants to come on I have to move my ticket so we can sit together so picked Cricketfield tonight as we usually do but ended up a bit higher tonight than usual. Won't be rushing back.

Folk like that will only be happy when it's them, their dog and the catering lady watching us play in the seventh division on English football. Anything else and they feel jealous that anyone would have the gall to enjoy the only thing that said jealous pr1ck gets out of bed in the morning for. It's a little bit sad and probably an indictment on the modern world but you see it often, people with such an inability to find purpose in their life because they're, invariably, emotional wrecks going through their day on auto-pilot, needing loyalty to a footy team to get them through life. Says more about his relationship with himself than anything else.

By the way, I hope nobody actually went ahead and justified themselves to him?

Spot on. Same with anything. So many people are bitter and jealous about other people. I dont get it. Saw itbon the thread about rooneys amazing assist. Rather than commend it people just wanted to bicker.

How far back can we go with this?
If you didn't go when Hereford walloped us 6-0 in '87, and you were actually born then, can the morons still call you a part-timer?

1,696 were on against Colchester in 86-87. If you were alive then, are alive now, and went to today's match and that Colchester one, then you are a proper fan; if not, you're plastic. :P

I think that part of it is probably to do with if you're going in the Cricketfield you are expected to make some noise.

Only an impure part-timer would attend a Europa League game. A pure, most-loyal devotee wouldn't attend a European match, or any match, in fact, during periods of relative success lest they associate themselves with other such filth, heretics and apostates who weren't on the Orient game. The only way to remain pure, clean, undefiled by part-time infidels is to practice asceticism, to stay at home, to bask in ones own loyalty and devotion. This is the only path to righteousness.

Shouldn't they be applauded for going to a game that wasn't likely to sell out? Part time supporters would give it a swerve, surely?

There were loads of new faces all around me in the JHU last night.
I was glad to see them, could you imagine what the crowd would have been without them. They also contributed to a great atmosphere.

How about part time fan mixed with early leaver?

3 of us usually in JML moved into the JMU to take 4yo nephew onto first competitive game (previous games were Duffs testimonial & Hamburg)

He lasted till half time of extra time before he fell asleep so dad took him back to the car and so missed the second half

Get held up at work in Bolton shot home from work said a quick hello to wife (her birthday) and kids, got into town got around to the ground in decent time to find large queue's for the JHU. Got to my seat about a minute late to be moaned at by somebody on the row behind for being late! So if said person posts on here can I just reiterate and as I said to you last night you can **** right off.

Strange how times have changed isn't it. When I lived there I'm sure half the crowd were walk ons. Pay on the gate made it so much easier to make a last minute decision. Lads whose Saturday league games were cancelled. Blokes who got out of work earlier than usual. Those were the real fans because they could have stopped in and watched Grandstand but came down and spent their money

There was a lad outside the Jimmy Mac stand before the game who was stopped by stewards because he rocked up with a bottle of haig club in one hand and a carton of cranberry juice in the other. I'll stick my neck out and say he probably wasn't a regular!

The person making the noise about part time fans is obviously a bit thick, and can’t quite grasp what a fan base is.

We probably have 40,000 fans who frequent Turf Moor over a season. Some go every game, others a few games or less. It doesn’t mean they aren’t fans.

He also can’t work out that people move seats for cup games either. I certainly wouldn’t allow the empty head to put you off.

At the end of the 90 mins I needed a pee and I had a very strange gentleman saying I was a City fan in the JHL as I walked out. His wife was obviously embarrassed pleading for him to stop (he must have thought there were a few undercover city fans)

This kind of thing really gets up my nose. People miss games or rarely go for many different reasons, work, family commitments, money or even health. Even if someone only turns up once every 2 years it doesn't make them any less of a fan. Every club gains fans after promotion or a period of success and every club loses support after a relegation. Sh!t happens, these knobs should get over themselves.

The worst kind of fan is the one who goes to every game and wants everyone to know that and criticises anyone who doesn't. It's a kind of snobbery.

I haven't seen a Burnley match for seven years because I live abroad, am ill and in debt. If - because it's more a a case of "if" than "when" - will that make me a "part-time fan"?

Football fans can be a strange breed anyway.

They'll complain that part-timers don't have a season ticket, complain those that don't go at all should make the effort for the big games and complain those that only make the effort for the big games don't go more often.
Add to this complaining that football is too expensive whilst saying the club should pay bigger fees and the board should invest more money.

Fact is the part-timers who catch the bug are the ones we want.
Scrap that, I just want anyone to support Burnley, full-time, part-time or every once in a while
