Hart 10 - MoM. Calmness personified. Kept us in the game with a string of good saves, the one at the death was particularly good. His distribution was terrific as well. Brilliant. 10 might seem high but he didn't put a foot wrong all night.
Bardsley 6 - gave the ball away cheaply far too often
Long 8 - possibly his best performance in a Burnley shirt
Gibson 7 - solid, assured. A good debut.
Ward 7 - Mr dependable!
Westwood 8 - a 9 first half followed by a 7 second.
Hendrick 6 - made cheap mistakes similar to Bardsley but grew into the match
Lennon 6 - flashes of quality isn't enough
Taylor 6 - I don't want to score anyone less than a 6 tonight. He got better as the game went on but he's not a winger!
Barnes 7 - another who grew into the game and became a nuisance once the referee realised it's a contact sport!
Vokes 6 - not his best night

Cork 8 - the game changed on his introduction. The first ball that fell into midfield was picked up by him and the flow of the game changed from there. Some goal too!
JBG 6 - struggled to get involved in a scrappy affair
Wood 7 - asked different questions of their defenders. Did well.

All in all it was a poor game but who cares?! Dyche worked wonders tonight and bolted together a team capable of hanging on and taking their chance. We must remember that the starting 11 was a far cry from our strongest 11, that's why I'm not being overly critical. A night to be proud. We're still going on a European tour!

Hart 9 - some very important saves. Oozes confidence. Has excellent distribution. Top signing.

Bardsley 8 - thought he got forward well, defended well overall, unlucky not to score a fantastic goal. Phyiscal and intelligent throughout.

Ward 6 - has not looked himself for a while. Not as quicknor composed as last season. Think Taylor will finish the season as left back.

Long 6 - didnt have much to do but didnt make any errors. Unfortunate to be booked.

Gibson 6 - see long. Steady if unspectacular debut. Just what you want from a centre half debut.

Lennon 7 - ran at them a lot in the first half and was very unlucky not to score what couldve been goal of the season already. Really needs a goal for us though.

Taylor 5 - not his position. But thought he was poor. Left mid is a totally dofferent postion to left back. Tonighy reiterated that. Poor crossing.

Westwood 6 - some good touches and movement in first half. Poor in second. Not a patch on emre.

Hendrick 6 - see Westwood.

Barnes 7 - was a nuiscance at times. But should have scored one if not two.

Vokes 6 - not in the game enough and squandered a good crossing opportunity when clean through. Rightly subbed.

Subs

Wood 5 - anonymous
Cork 8 - made a real difference. Made one world class interception when last man and his goal was pure class. How and why southampton and swansea let him go is beyond me.

hart - 9 he'd have expected to make all the saves he did but he still had to make them. Still seems a bit ridiculous that he's stood in our nets tbh

bardsley - 8 though he was excellent tonight and nearly bagged a screamer

long - 9 top drawer tonight, he doesn't let us down

gibson - 7 just needs time - and games - to gel but he already looks a sound investment

ward - 6 had probably the toughest opponent on the pitch, sound enough though

westwood - 6 kept things moving nicely enough

hendrick - 7 just a better player further back, lovely work to set up the strike for cork

lennon - 6 probably should have scored when he waltzed through in the first half

taylor - 6 he did ok in what clearly isn't his best position

barnes - 6 mostly for his extra-time contribution where he took the pressure off nicely. first half he was too concerned with jumping into defenders and he really should have bagged his free header

vokes - 7 surprising he got hooked ahead of barnes as he was holding it up and linking play better

gudmundsson - 5 not a lot tonight

cork - 8 he was a cut above when he came on, really took charge of both the game and the team, and his strike was a beauty

wood - 4 didn't offer much at all

a bang average game lit up by a superb strike. whilst we're less fluent when we make that many changes, the overall performance shows we do have a decent squad. odd perhaps that the weaker link in the back four was the regular starter...

dyche's selection is vindicated by the result, lots of positives to take from the performance and its worth reminding ourselves that the opposition are no mugs. it doesn't get any easier in the next round either.

we can take them though.

Slightly concerned with Wood. He's like a shitter Harry Kane.. As in if he doesn't score he's pap, needs to work on winning more contested balls in the air.

Cork imo epitomises everything we're about, I ******* love the bloke.

Very impressed with Emre Belözoğlu over the two legs, age 37 and absolutely top drawer

Good to see credit has been given to Hendrick for his part in the goal. Most were probably cursing him when he passed instead of shooting.

Just remember that he doesn't do anything.

The 600 pass goal against Everton last season only ended up being a goal because he feigned to collect the pass and let it run across him to slot it in.

It wasn’t Hendrick’s work with the ball that frustrated me tonight, it was his work off the ball. Out of position so often, wrong side of his man, ball watching and chasing half the time like an excited poodle. I spent a good few minutes just watching Hendrick, exasperated at his lack of positional sense. Westwood covering 2 players for about 55 minutes.

How some people are rating Hendrick lower than Vokes is beyond me.

Hart 7 - tough with another new defence. Think he could of caught a few and commanded the box more
Bardsley 6 - high risk
Long 9
Gibson 7
Ward 8 - had to do Taylor’s crossing
Lennon 7 - running at players and heading into the box
Westwood -8 brilliant captains appearance
Hendrick 7 - likes to play CM
Taylor 5 - had a chance to show his attacking ability, preferred to put Ward in charge
Barnes 6
Vokes 6

Gudmundsson 5
Cork 8

Hart - 9 - some very big saves and generally looked confident. Can only remember him misplacing on kick too.
Bardsley - 7 - pretty solid at the back but did think he panicked on the ball a lot lumping long balls up to our forwards. Got the job done though.
Long - 8 - a couple of really good interceptions and seemed to be in the right place at the right time all night.
Gibson - 8 - looked very at home and also surprisingly good on the ball too.
Ward - 6 - classic Wardy really. Did his job but I thought on the rare occasion he got into a crossing position he wasted it.
Lennon - 6 - looked lively but faded. Should probably have done better with his chance he had in the first half but would need to see it again.
Westwood - 7 - thought he was or best player in the first half. Surprised to see him given the armband (thought maybe Barnesy or Ward would have it)
Hendrick - 7 - gets a lot of stick but he covered every blade of grass out there tonight. Seems to always be the target on this forum and in the Bob Lord tonight around me quite a few moans and groans when he stayed on and Westwood went off. Don’t get it at all.
Taylor - 6 - a LB playing LM. Did his best and think he will be a brilliant player for us....when he plays LB
Vokes - 6 - tried hard but wasn’t really his night tonight. Ref didn’t help him though.
Barnes - 7 - a typical Ashley Barnes performance. Harried, got in their faces and generally made it as uncomfortable as possible for their CBs. Won some free kicks to allieviate pressure

JBG- 6 - didn’t really get into the game properly. The football we played tonight didn’t help him.
Cork - 8 - calmed us down massively when he came on. Another mark for the finish. Watching it back again it’s even more impressive than I’d thought.
Wood - 7 - I’m a bit of a doubter on what Wood offers us but I thought he had an impact tonight. Stretched them a little and looked better than Vokesy had.

After a bright start a very disjointed performance that looked like the XI hadn’t played together before, which of course they hadn’t.

Effort wasn’t lacking, apart from by the manager (who was got out of jail by Jack’s corker). Considering 95% of posters earlier were suggesting they would rather win today rather than Sunday, I thought the team was scandalous, even worse than I expected, a betrayal of our hopes and dreams that we have waited decades for, because he must have expected to get knocked out. Seeing as we squeezed home, by a sliver, I’ll park that for now and try to get behind him again, but I’m struggling a bit now to see what we are trying to progress to, if it ain’t this, then what?

Bardsley did well to be fair, but I thought Long and Taylor (the latter due to being out of position) were out of their depth. I didn’t get the sponsors MOM, Long did OK but gave the brilliant Hart far too much to do. To be fair to Dyche for a moment, he recognised that Visca would be the best player on the pitch and tried to nullify him with two full backs. It kind of worked, but he still almost had a hat trick.

Anyway, trains and planes booked for Athens now. It may not be a long tour so we’d better enjoy it.

Strange game played very well 30mins
They got back into it last 15 of the first half due to dodgy refereeing and our decision to play football on the edge of our area instead of theirs.
Second half they were the better team, we had little spells of good play interspersed with some of the most mindnumbingly bad decision making. Gave the ball away cheaply, under no pressure time and again.
Picked up again ET and saw the job out well.
A lot of players looked excellent in that first half, especially Vokes, Westwood and Lennon.
Any of the defence could have claimed mom. Hart played another great game, and Gibson is a good footballer as well as a good defender, just as we hoped.

It's like watching a comedian dying on stage.
I'm starting to feel bad for the guy. He looks utterly lost. He can't manage even simple passes. I'd hoped this might have been his season, but he looked even worse last night.
Dyche will always defend his players, as he should.

Hart - good saves and good distribution, could be a long wait for Heaton. I could have the goal as my screen saver, it was exquisite, nearly as beautiful as Ashley's last 15 mins - the Turkish fans would have gone mad!!

Hart 9 kept us in it
Bardsley 7 ok dedefensively, but he's very poor on the ball
Long 8 good game
Gibson 7 nice soft debut to ease him in
Ward 6 not bad, but not as good as he usually is
Lennon 8 our brightest player, perplexing he was hooked at that stage in the game
Westwood 7 started well, faded, then came back into it
Hendrick 6 a bit of a passenger, but got the assist
Taylor 5 quality on the ball wasn't there, and he pulled out of too many challenges. Not great in the air. Didn't work playing him on the wing.
Vokes 5 competed well, but essentially offered nothing
Barnes 4 Really poor. Selfishly shot when should have squared to two men, constantly fouled the defenders meaning we couldn't get a foothold, and that incident where he pushed the defender into the goalkeeper, who fell heavily on his back, and then kicking the ball out of his hands is one of the most moronic incidents I've ever seen from a Claret. He's better when he concentrates on playing football, but last night he was more bothered about being an arsehole than contributing to a team performance.

Gudmundsson 5 anonymous
Wood 5 ponderous
Cork 8 our best outfield player, and the goal was a beauty. We missed him when he wasn't on the park

Thought we were good first half, very poor second and on top over extra time. Special mentions for Westwood (1st half), Cork, Hart and Lennon

Cork made all the difference when he came on though, as he gave us back a foothold in the match and scored an absolute worldie.

Hart 8 - good saves, but at least twice should have claimed balls on the edge of the area. Still, considering that back five had never played together before understandable. Looks an absolute steal btw
Bardsley 7 - solid
Long 8 - apart from getting left on the half line in extra time by a sublime turn, very good
Gibson 7 - solid debut, though I'd want him to clear the crosses further with his headers
Ward 7 - standard
Lennon 8 - very surprised he was taken off, though (as usual!) SD knew what he was doing
Westwood 7 - got completely swamped 2nd half as Istanbul realised he was making it tick 1st half
Hendrick 7 - some good, some average but pretty solid
Taylor 6 - not his position, but wasted at least two brilliant crossing oppurtunties
Vokes 6 - some nice touches but not really in it
Barnes 7 - got to take those chances but excellent in extra time

Subs
Cork 9 - made the difference and stretched a frankly knackered Istanbul
Wood 6 - nothing of note
JBG 6 - as above

Just glad to get through, and hopefully we will have a couple more players back for the next round.
a betrayal of our hopes and dreams that we have waited decades for
Jesus, there is no way anyone was dreaming that in the 4th Division, and some perspective would not go amiss

Hart 8
Bardsley 8
Long 8
Gibson 8
Ward 7
Lennon 7
Westwood 7
Hendrick 6
Taylor 6
Vokes 6
Barnes 6

Gudmundsson 6
Cork 7
Wood 6

Thought we kept them at arms length again. Hart made some decent saves but saves he’d be expected to make. Great keeper though. Back line was really solid. Felt sorry for Ward, who got no protection from Taylor who clearly isn’t a winger but tried hard. Didn’t quite come together for our front players again, and it’s obvious where Vydra fits. But I’ve booked my flights to Greece and I’m buzzing. Great win.

Hart 8 a few good saves, not sure just how good due to my angle of viewing.
Bardsley 6 poor going forward, offered very little when given so much time. Running on empty at the end
Long 8 excellent
Gibson 7 a few iffy moments, but generally good
Ward 7
Lennon 7 bright, a few nearlys
Westwood 7
Hendrick 6 very basic preformance and looked limited again.
Taylor 6 how many wasted crossing chances?
Barnes 6 crept up to a 6 for his game management in extra time, 5 if judged on the first 90. Chose the wrong option quite a lot.
Vokes 6

Gudmundsson 5 lightweight
Cork 8 excellent. Great finish
Wood 5 a few good basic layoffs, but is so lightweight and got out ran and muscled by players who were running on empty.

The amount of times when breaking, or starting an attack do players always seem to play the ball a yard behind the player, so the receiver either has wait for the ball or run back before then going forwards.
Slows the play right down.

Thought we only had possìbly 2 10 minute spells of pressure, glad to get through, but we need to be more clinical with our chances, our 2 golden ones wasted again. We won't keep getting away with it.

See you in Greece!

Absolutely. The idea that fans should be able to think for themselves, and ever disagree with Dyche’s comments is blasphemous

Hart 9 (MOM) - save he made near end of first half was brilliant. Their guy was only 8 yards out and caught it absolutely flush - no way Hart could have saved this without anticipating the shot and diving before he hit it.
Bardsley 6 - ok but Lowton is so much better going forward
Ward 6 - think he struggled and also picked up a knock near the end
Gibson 7 - good solid game
Long 7 - ditto
Taylor 6 - struggled but difficult playing out of position
Lennon 6 - worked hard and seemed to do everything right for the chance (but score !)
Westwood 7 - thought he played well
Hendrick 6 - ok. Worked hard for sure but often seems to make the wrong decision when he is in an advanced position. Luckily he made the right one for the goal
Vokes 6 - did little to be honest
Barnes 6 - same as Vokes but did put in a real shift in extra time. Bad decision in first half to shoot.

Cork 8 - gave us renewed impetus when we had been struggling. Great goal
Wood 6 - little impact
JBG 6 - little impact

They were a very tidy team technically but lacked any real cutting edge up front. Over the 2 ties they had a lot of possession but only really seemed to go for it in a couple of 15 minutes spells. It’s a strange tactic when you could see that they had the ability to attack a lot more then they did. I thought we played well in the first 35 minutes last night and looked in control and then out of nowhere they created a load of chances in the last 10 minutes of the half - it was like the Muhammad Ali rope a dope !

Surprised to see Wood getting such low scores. When he came on he really hustled hard for the ball. Not seen him work that hard for a while.

Hart - totally agree with most here. Solid as a rock. Made it look easy.

Gibson- really liked the look of him. I feel he had a lot to do with making Long play so well. His communication with Long was superb.

Taylor- made some great runs, but then seemed to stutter as to what pass to make and often missed that killer ball because of it. To be fair though he isn't a winger and he did a job for the team.

I'm starting to feel bad for the guy. He looks utterly lost. He can't manage even simple passes. I'd hoped this might have been his season, but he looked even worse last night.
Dyche will always defend his players, as he should.
This is probably because either you weren't at the game or you weren't watching. Dyche didn't defend his player here, he made a clear point about how well Hendrick played last night. He was excellent at Southampton too.

Again the lack of options is frightening if were to get any injuries to any of our midfielders.

Round pegs in square holes spring to mind.

Dyche is an excellent manager. And an excellent man manager. This is the perfect example of it. If jeff had scored an own goal and got sent offf he wouldnt call him out. He would deflect the blame from Jeff and rightly so.

To be fair last night wasnt his worse game by any stretch. But i can see both sides.

Hart - 8 - One excellent save at the end of the first half. Otherwise, I thought everything was pretty routine - the sort of saves we allow our keeper to make, rather than us relying on him to bail us out with world class saves. Also thought, to be picky, that he passed up a number of opportunities to come and take crosses and relieve pressure, and that his kicking was a bit indifferent.

Bardsley - 6 - Started well enough, but thereafter I thought he was indifferent, particularly going forwards where his distribution is a million miles short of where it needs to be.

Ward - 7 - Stood up well to an excellent opponent, even if that limited his attacking opportunities.

Long - 8 - Made a mug of a couple of times by Adebayor when he came on, but plenty have before, and I thought he was generally pretty commanding and more decisive than others.

Gibson - 7 - Pretty seamlessly replaced Mee - almost an identikit replacement.

Westwood - 7 - Thought he battled well, but as against Aberdeen, faded a bit worryingly as the second half wore on.

Hendrick - 7 - Thought he was solid enough, got around the field and was an influence at both ends of the pitch. Caught in possession a couple of times but I'm not sure that was necessarily his fault, and possibly caught between holding and pressing a few times.

Lennon - 8 - the only explanation for his departure was to keep an eye on Sunday, which for my money was a mistake. Bright, direct, committed defenders but should have scored.

Taylor - 5 - Did OK-ish defensively, although got sucked in too often to the position our left back holds when defending rather than engaging the outside man, but looked like a fish out of water in attack.

Barnes - 6 - A hugely wasteful first half, particularly when he inexplicably shot from an impossible option when he might have delivered a tap in for one of 3 players, but once he stopped trying to do battle with the ref and played his game, he began to win the free kicks to get us up the pitch.

Vokes - 5 - A couple of good moments in the first half, but peripheral for too long.

JBG - 5 - Struggled to get into the game.

Wood - 6 - More huff and puff than quality, but his extra mobility helped us run the channels more effectively.

Cork - 8 - Gave us a bit of command in midfield that had hitherto been lacking despite the best efforts of Westwood and Hendrick, and a lovely goal to boot.

A bit disappointed with Dyche's team selection, frankly, which (although we never quite know what the position of players is behind closed doors) smacked of a manager regarding this competition as a bit of an inconvenience rather than something to be relished. Changing half the team inevitably affected our fluency, and a lack of familiarity was particularly evident in the second half when we kept our defensive shape well enough but completely failed to retain the ball. I get the worry about Sunday, but perhaps a stronger team would have avoided at least 2 players who will presumably play on Sunday having to play 120 minutes less than 72 hours before that game - Istanbul were good, but I suspect a first choice eleven might have overwhelmed them earlier.

That said, we started well enough, should have been ahead within the first half hour, before spending the next hour well and truly on the back foot give or take a steady opening to the second half. Extra time always looked like we had the legs, until the inevitable last gasp scramble but we saw it out calmly enough.

Now the real stuff begins.
