taio wrote:You've maintained Hendrick has never played as a number 10. Even after Dyche said so. And he made no such reference to it being a different role to what our supporters regard as a number 10. You took somebody to task on here when they referred to him playing as a number 10, and you did the same when someone else described his position as an AMC, yet that is clearly the position he was playing. You've constantly referred to him playing as a third central midfielder but everyone else, Dyche included, has recognised otherwise.
Pretty comfortable that if you read Dyche's comments from this interview last season, its quite obvious that he thinks the "number 10" badge is a bit of a misnomer, and that hes broadly asking Hendrick to operate in a midfield role (he went as far as to point out that too much emphasis is put on how team sheets are written on paper and there's a big difference between how it looks in and out of possession for a start). So im not sure you're correct there at all. But anyway, pretty pointless diversion from the point of this discussion.

Jeff did nothing wrong today. Maybe should have shot first time when given the chance. But as mentioned already, Wood offered nowt. He was so poor today

If that Hendrick playing well I don't want to see him play bad. Should have scored but for some reason took 4 touches rather than hitting it first time

I thought he should have stayed on and replaced Westwood not that it would've really made any difference, the damage was already done.

We looked better with him on the pitch than off it

So you take that one thing as an overall assessment? Please assess Ben Mee, Stephen Ward and Chris Wood for me today...

Probably our best player today. That was a worrying performance!

Does seem reluctant to shoot which is frustrating.

Wood looked miles off the pace.

Abysmal. Wood offered nothing, unfortunately.

Won 5 on the bounce last season when Wood was paired with Barnes. Not sure why we’ve not done it once this season.

You mean like his reluctance to shoot on Thursday? Don't be daft.

Played well today and unfortumate to be pullled

Hendrick shouldn’t be used as a scapegoat today, a fair few players worse than him, and it’s Dyche’s fault for persisting playing him out of position

Specifically watched him today after the recent criticism, his running and the positions he got into we're excellent. I thought he was outstanding.

He was OK today, no more than that but he was one of the less poor players today

Played well last weekend and just missed the killer final pass a couple of times, ditto today. Awful on Thursday but we were chasing the game for long periods.

Frustrating performances for quite a while as we know he is a very good player when on form but doesn't deserve to be targeted at all.

Deserved to stay on the pitch today but for some reason Dyche thought we needed 2 holding midfielders when we were two goals down.

Another positive game for Jeff, just had to make way for 2 strikers.

Wish we would start with 2 strikers at home for all games excluding the top 6.

Not always his biggest fan here, but I honestly thought Jeff was excellent today and subbing him was plain daft , especially when Lord Lucan was sighted more often than Lennon in that second half!!

Agree.. We looked even worse after the substitutions. Vokes and Barnes got zero service. Westwood is miles away from being a Premier league midfielder, he has no engine and can't play a full 90

Comfortably our best player today.

You don't take off your best player when you are 3-1 down.

Westwood gets caught in possession far too often

Wrong man to take off today had a good game just needs to shoot more when he gets the chance.

Plays the simple stuff alright but picks the wrong option time and time again. He got clear once or twice but plays simple ball backwards so we don't have any advantage.

Maybe it's him maybe it's Dyche's tactics but we have been outclassed twice in two games in the forward creativity department.

Agree he was good today.

However, you can’t just say the best player can’t be substituted when you are changing the system. We never looked like scoring in the first half of the second half and a change of system is what was required. Whether it worked or not (which it didn’t on this occasion) doesn’t mean it was the wrong decision. Hendrick did 120 mins on Thurs night too.

Also if Vokes scores with his first touch they may have panicked.

played well today, should have stayed on and took Westy off for Barnes to go with two up top. I don't like the 4-4-1-1 against teams around our level, it seems negative.

Yeah, you can

We always keep Cork and Westwood on when we go to 4-42, and though Westwood recycles the ball better, Hendrick gives us more options in and around the box.

If we'd only been a goal down, then yeah, keep Westwood on but we need to do differing things as we all know (and other teams, managers and players do) what we do.

Problem we have had in the last two games is that once we can't get the ball down the wings, then we look absolutely toothless.

Runners from midfield, a bit of variation and quicker passing required.

Very unlikely to have made a difference today as we were really poor after going 3-1 down, but its something to bear in mind.

Even Thierry Henry and Cantona where very average in their first couple of seasons!
Not that i would even use Hendrick in the same sentence ordinarily.

But in cantonas first three english seasons he won 3 titles.

In Henrys he won one title and scored 58 league goals.
