Ben Mee / Ben Gibson
Ben Mee / Ben Gibson
Two very good players vying for the same spot in the team. Ben Mee we know offers many things. Reads the game, brilliant in the air and puts his body on the line. Ben Gibson, I havent seen a lot of, but from what I have seen he looks like he will be more accomplished on the ball and he reads the game well. Sean Dyche must be relishing this situation. Who will he favour for the regular spot?
Question. Can Charlie Taylor take over the Arfiels role? Difficlut for him last night against continantal style football and not too much movement from us up front. But surley he will turn out to be a very accomplished player.

Re: Ben Mee / Ben Gibson
Short term Ben Mee will play Premier League games, the lad has just signed a new contract, and proven his worth,Ben Gibson is excellent back-up if required,Europa League don't know,Mee played both aberdeen ties and the first leg in Turkey,so it's possible Sean was just giving him a breather last night, with such a hectic schedule to come.
Re: Ben Mee / Ben Gibson
Arfield never played left back, so no would be my answer to that one.Stayingup wrote:Two very good players vying for the same spot in the team. Ben Mee we know offers many things. Ben Mee for me.
Re: Ben Mee / Ben Gibson
I thought Gibson and Long had a similar feel to Tarks and Mee, just the other way around.
One comfortable on the ball, the other an old-fashioned defender.
Happy we look like we have 2 very good looking partnerships in defence (though it is early days)

Yes I know where Arfield played. Where Taylor did last night. My point or question is could Taylor play there on a regular basis?DCWat wrote:Arfield never played left back, so no would be my answer to that one.
Re: Ben Mee / Ben Gibson
Sorry - didn’t mean to sound arsey. My point was referencing last night and that for me at least, Taylor is no left winger. More a needs must option than a consideration if we’ve a full squad to choose from.

Surely who he plays regularly will depend ultimately on who he feels is the better player.Silkyskills1 wrote:'Who will he favour for the regular spot'?

And the answer to who is the better player remains open.

Okay, maybe not, I'm not the expert. But I would have thought it will take some time for him to bed in before we know for sure who is the better player.Silkyskills1 wrote:Really?
Have you seen a lot of Gibson?

I haven't. Just the odd occasion he's played against us and even then I wasn't looking at him in particular. Everyone seems happy with him being here so I'll settle for that. We've all seen what Ben Mee offers the team though so I only hope that the competition between them spurs both players on to greater things again.

No from me,at the moment.Stayingup wrote:Yes I know where Arfield played. Where Taylor did last night. My point or question is could Taylor play there on a regular basis?
You've got to remember we signed him from the biggest club in the World, and it will take time for him to adjust to our lowly status.

Re: Ben Mee / Ben Gibson
Good to see people are so certain Mee will take the shirt....I'm not so sure...but dont profess such knowledge..from my very limited looks at Gibson I'd say he was easier on the eye..and I suspect the spot will be up for grabs ..if not now then immediately after our first cb suspension.

He comes across as a lovely lad. Thoughtful, articulate and genuine. Sounds like he's happy to be here too!Vegas Claret wrote:couple of articles on Gibson

Re: Ben Mee / Ben Gibson
Ben Mee will obviously walk straight back into the team
Re: Ben Mee / Ben Gibson
The fact that Ben Mee has been practically flawless for us for at least the past 4 seasons shouldn’t be forgotten.
He’s the first name on the team sheet for me.

I mean he's been very good, but flawless? That would be very unlikely.BurnleyFC wrote:The fact that Ben Mee has been practically flawless for us for at least the past 4 seasons shouldn’t be forgotten.

It could be that Gibson turns out to be the better footballer (passing, distribution and whatnot). We'll have to wait and see...

If you want someone to defend and literally put themselves in danger to achieve that outcome then I nominate Ben Mee. For a team built on defensive strength and unison he must be a manager's dream.fatboy47 wrote:Good to see people are so certain Mee will take the shirt....I'm not so sure...but dont profess such knowledge..from my very limited looks at Gibson I'd say he was easier on the eye..and I suspect the spot will be up for grabs ..if not now then immediately after our first cb suspension.

Quite true what you say about Ben Mee. A true hero for us. But what can Gibson offer? Maybe something as good in a different way.Silkyskills1 wrote:If you want someone to defend and literally put themselves in danger to achieve that outcome then I nominate Ben Mee.
