O/T bridge camera
Evening all. Looking for recommendations and guidance on a bridge camera. It’s for my daughter who is taking photography as a gcse.
Wondered if anyone had any ideas on brands, models and prices and what sort of things I should look for spec wise
Want to buy 2nd hand as it’ll no doubt end up chucked in the bottom of a school bag, but also want something half decent.
Cheers

Re: O/T bridge camera
If she's looking to study photography maybe an older 2nd hand DSLR may provide more artist and technical insight.
Camera - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Canon-EOS-55 ... SwZydbbf6g" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Kit lens- https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Canon-EF-S-1 ... SwSUdbXFuO" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Extra lens 'arty' - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Canon-50mm-f ... Sw0QVbctY4" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Total = £235
I've taken images on those which have and still sell commercially. And now I've taken what I learned to bigger, better cameras.
The below taken with the above camera and one of those lenses

Thanks combat, it’s more the portability of a bridge that appeals, plus, she is a kid, she’ll no doubt decide photography isn’t her bag 3 weeks in.

You couldn’t have asked anywhere better. I posed the same question a while back and got some great advice, at the time. Late Friday not the best time to ask but by Monday you’ll be sorted.

Can’t remember the specifics, it was a while ago but I got a Sony Cybershot DSC-H400 and I love it.1fatclaret wrote:What was the advice you got piston? What did you buy?
Here’s a review of 10 goodies.

I won’t recommend any as the experts will be along soon.

Good recommendation was going to suggest similar, checked eBay some about pre-owned only a quick check though.CombatClaret wrote:The Canon Powershots are always well received or something like

Re: O/T bridge camera
I have a load of gear for sale currently on behalf of a colleague who recently lost her step father.
There is a Canon Powershot G6 (needs a new battery) but the camera is mint.
Also there is an Olympus E450 which is a small DSLR with two lenses.
Nikon D300 and Nikon D200 with various lenses too.
Let me know if you are interested, I have some rough idea on prices but my colleague may well be open to offers on the equipment.
Cheers
Andy

Cheers Andy,
Definitely interested in both the PowerShot or the Nikon’s if the money is right.

Re: O/T bridge camera
A decent second hand DSLR and a good lens will get you the most bang for your buck.
I still have a Nikon D40, that I rarely use now as I have access to some better bodies, and it still gets great results with the 18-55 kit lens. I've even used the 18-55 on a Nikon D500 recently with great results. So even if you don't fancy the D200 or D300 above then I'd recommend that lens with a Nikon body.

Re: O/T bridge camera
You can buy a secondhand film SLR camera for peanuts nowadays. I am an artist that uses photography and I didn't replace my SLR digitally, I bought a Nikon Coolpix 300 for just over £200 because it's got the best microphone in its class for video. I use a Velbon (tinypod?) (teenypod?) as a selfie stick to hold it. It's not a bridge camera, though.

Re: O/T bridge camera
Sony, brilliant sensors, Carl Zeiss lens a little over your budget, but this would be a stunner.

Re: O/T bridge camera
You can get a HX400 (the version without GPS) for ~ £200 secondhand at LCE https://www.lcegroup.co.uk/Used/Sony-HX400_220435.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; (you can buy online from them).Burnleyareback2 wrote:Brilliant ANDY, I had looked at this one and I really appreciate your advice. Thanks again
Or a similar camera in a smaller body https://www.lcegroup.co.uk/Used/Sony-HX-90V_220820.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; (most of the innards are pretty similar but the lens won't be quite as good).
Or around your original budget (but secondhand) https://www.lcegroup.co.uk/Used/Sony-Cy ... -DSC-RX10-(MK-I" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;)_218000.html A higher model, more robust with bigger sensor and faster lens (but without the giant zoom)
Personally I'd look at the Sony mirrorless, something like this https://www.lcegroup.co.uk/Used/Sony-A5 ... 16761.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; (you can pick them up cheaper than that if you shop around). Good quality lens and a much bigger sensor in a small package.

Re: O/T bridge camera
Excellent choice on a bridge camera, I hope you can nail the shots; don't forget to use it in manual and get more from your images. Also now look to some form of software to develop your images.
Let me know if you need any help.
