What do Burnley fans actually want?
We’ve spent years in the doldrums and seen terrible games and performances and now we’re seeing the best times for a generation. A large section of our support seem intent on wanting us out of Europe, what do you actually want?
Sometimes feel people would be far happier with us in league 2 and reminiscing about how terrible we used to be. No ambition whatsoever.

We need to stop mentioning 7th. I'm sick of reading it, it was last season. 7th last season doesn't give us any extra points this season. Can we throw 7th in the bin and concentrate on this season.

Re: What do Burnley fans actually want?
Survival in the PL coupled with a decent Europa league run.
I'd settle for a cup win of some sort/reach a final and finished 17th on goal difference if I'm honest.

Re: What do Burnley fans actually want?
In order of preference, i want to see
Results
Great football/performances
Goals
At the minute none of the above look like they'll come with any sort of regularity.
If being in Europe is contributing to that ( partly because of our thread bare squad ) then I want out.
Bigger and better squads than ours have found it difficult to juggle both competitions, with their regular league finished being effected.
The premier league us our bread and butter and we need to stay in it at all costs, a couple of extra thrashing in Europe playing half a team won't do anything for our players or their confidence.
We've had a little tour of Europe now, let's concentrate on becoming an established premier league outfit.

We can play two games in four days, but it definitely gives the opposition an advantage when they've had a weeks' rest. I think that's just a harsh fact.Milltown1882 wrote:Drivel? History suggests so with other teams who have been in this position when it comes to the Europa League.

Tripe... Burnley fans want us to stay in the Premier league. Due to the huge financial outlay the club has made, relegation could be a disaster. I don't want the club to struggle just so we can go on a European tour

Re: What do Burnley fans actually want?
Watford have had over a week to prepare for this game and we still outplayed them in the first half.
We proved we can play 2 games a week but then the fitness and stamina may be an issue in the latter part of games until we get used to it and our best 2 players back (certainly if we go behind in games).
I want Europa League and to stay up which we will

I personally want us to compete in the top league in the country. To do that, I believe we have to improve recruitment.
Sadly, criticising our transfer window has lead to suggestions that I should “go and support another team”.

Everyone wants us to go on a good run in Europe.
Some people are anxious that doing so will affect our position in the premier league.
You can't have a go at fans for being a bit worried about the situation.

Re: What do Burnley fans actually want?
We are not after the same players as Man U....players they want have several agents, their own sponsporship deals and are brands in their right. That is why they struggled.Hibsclaret wrote:If Man U cannot sign who they want how can they be lying about how hard it is?
We struggled because we were stupid enough to believe that our main 3/4 targets would all sign for us. We were arrogant enough to believe we could play hard ball and get them. We then realised none of our targets were that bothered and became desperate and went for everyone we could in desperation on the last 2/3 days of the window.
Jay Rod would be here if we paid 18 million.
Bolasie would be here on loan if we paid 35k of his wages. This is the contribution Everton wanted, we offered 20k.
Clucas would be here if he didnt give off such a bad impression when meeting SD.
Ward Prowse would be here if we didnt wait until the last but one day to try to a deal.
We arent Man U and the deals we want are nothing like the ones Man U do

Mawson turned us down. Gibson deal is done in less than a week.
Re: What do Burnley fans actually want?
European football is important to us, in the fact that it raises the profile of the club and generates income (not that we utilise it).
Europa league is not the reason we lost today because they were many that didn't play against istanbul, also the players have only been training and playing for four or five weeks. If they are burnt out now then God help us in December. We should be extremely grateful of the current times but shouldn't loose sight of striving to improve.

Re: What do Burnley fans actually want?
This season I would swap 7th for 17th if it meant reaching group stages of Europa League if we got that would accept being knocked out of the cups early.
At start of season realistically only a few teams can win the league we are in and the same teams will compete for the Champions League places. That leaves the other 14 or so teams competing just to survive.
Last year due to the fact that City and Chelsea won the cups a Europa League place opened up to the team finishing 7th. We got that place and we should relish it for as long as it lasts as it may never happen again.

If nothing else our players will be either super fit or burnt out. The Europa journey could ens quickly but I'd like to see us take it as far as we can.
Staying in Prem is how our team will be funded - relegation will be the start of another hard climb. Yes, we bounced back before and been promoted 3 times since 2008/09. My opinion, that is exceptional and would not be the rule. The town is not big enough to attract "billionaire" ownership which can fill the funding gap if outside the Premier League.
Great to be in Europa - so, we should give it a go. But, we have limited resources, there are a number of clubs with bigger squads, more funding in Europa. Group stages and beyond is a big ask.
And, while competing in Europa there will be additional demands on squad resources.
Transfer window: added some great players to squad. Yes, would have been great to get some more, but, I don't have inside knowledge of any transfer dealings, either Clarets or any other teams. We know we are reported to have been interested in some players. We can make judgements of the players we watch, both for Burnley and other teams. We've also read Mike Garlick's interview (May-2018) about his approach to signing players. But, that's as far as it goes. So, that's it for me: transfer window has closed. We should put it behind us, just like 7th last season "doesn't win any points this season." ( without checking I'm quoting verbatim).

To win the champions league, the Premier and both domestic cups in one season. Not a lot to ask for really.
Our perspective is so badly skewed because of our recent achievements. I have confidence Dyche knows exactly what he is doing. He has got us this far and he has 100% of my support.

Re: What do Burnley fans actually want?
I think Burnley fans generally want to remain in the Prem whilst having a good run in the Europa Cup/League thingy.
That could prove quite difficult this season and I hope fans are realistic enough to realise that it is unlikely that we will again finish 7th. And there is every possibility that our next two games in Europe could well be our last. But, I do not think we should look at that as failure because it is not. It was a fantastic achievement last season and whilst this current season may prove difficult I always look at Coventry City (I don't know why but I do) and see that they are in the Third Division. That could be us but it is not and I rejoice at that.
I'm not a happy clapper; I do think the transfer window was poor but we are where we are.
I wonder if we would have been better sticking with our best team from the outset of the European campaign rather than chopping and changing it. That continuity has worked for us in the past.
I worry for Watford, look what happened to West Brom when they went and rained on our parade.

Again where did I say we should steer clear of signing players with a dodgy past? I just tire of the club coming out with this line all the time when we try to sign a player. It amazes me when players use us to get new contracts yet we still chase them in the next window. To me that shows they arent bothered about playing for us....Dawson, Lansbury.Spijed wrote:Name a team in ANY sport that doesn't have characters with a dubious past?

I think all Burnley fans want the same thing, to win every game we play.
We're probably all sensible enough to know that isn't going to happen and that we might draw or even lose some games during a season but a few more goals or at least some meaningful shots on target, especially at home would be nice.

I agree with you. What winds me up is when in the first half we had Hendrick putting it across goal rather than putting his laces through the ball. Yes it looked like a shot but it wasnt, also foster made a hash of it and we could of got lucky i know but that bit of play summed up Hendrick as a no 10 for me and how much we are going to need Vydra to be what we need him to beVintage Claret wrote:I think all Burnley fans want the same thing, to win every game we play.
We're probably all sensible enough to know that isn't going to happen and that we might draw or even lose some games during a season but a few more goals or at least some meaningful shots on target, especially at home would be nice.
