Sticking my head above the parapet re: BFC in the Community funding....

Post by ŽižkovClaret » Tue Aug 21, 2018 3:39 pm

BFC in the Community.

I have no doubt that they do valuable work, however given the turnover the club now has, i can't help find it a little rich that they take a share of charity money vs other charities.

We can afford to fund this as a club on our own, and should.

Maybe it's just me, but i remember a bid for community funds for whiteough, and they were going up against some far smaller concerns without a multi million $ business behind them and it just didnt feel right

I don't have a problem with it at all.

Burnley in the community is a charity who do things for the town. They are aiming to be self funding (through sponsorship etc) so they can continue the work regardless of how the club is doing financially. They clearly are heavily linked to, and supported by the club i.

Whitehough is a great resource for the area and they wanted to resurrect that.

I’m not really sure what doesn’t sit right for you?

They aren’t asking for money or grants to improve the clubs facilities or anything.

Much of what is reported about their work is very positive.

I totally understand why you are upset, this must be having a massive impact on your local community.

The fact they were competing against other local causes didnt sit right, that's all. The club gained great PR from Whitehough, it didnt strike me as too much to ask that they foot the bill.

As far as i understand it, they are a completely separate entity from the club itself.

I’d heard exactly the same, they just share the same offices. I don’t think they get a lot of financial support from the club. The football team just put their name behind it.

Absolutely correct. The club and BFCITC are entirely separate.
The charity certainly benefit from BFC's Premier League status, for a number of direct and indirect reasons.

I'd take a read of this, Zizkov. https://www.burnleyfccommunity.org/who-we-are/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Pretty much explains the situation. I feel it’s a charity well worth supporting. For businesses particularly you get the exposure benefits of the club being in the premier league as well as the great PR from what the community team do.

They also seem to use the money on fantastic projects.

Basically no one should feel uncomfortable throwing a bit of support to this cause. If anything they come across as more proactive and positive in their approach than the commercial side of the club itself. Guess Zizkov has the wrong end of the stick...

This charity is benefiting Burnley and it's people better than any other. How can such positive work be questioned?

It is the ultimate gift horse.

I’ve come into contact with them through work on a couple of their projects- they are helping a wide range of members of our community.
