Loss of 2 Claret fans RIP

Post by Bfc » Wed Aug 22, 2018 7:54 pm

Sadly I've learned of the tragic death of 2 very close husband and wife friends of mine who were on holiday in Egypt. John Cooper, well known as Cooperman the builder all around Burnley and his wife Susan who worked as a travel agent.
No words can say how I feel for them and especially for their immediate family, who were with them on holiday. So many people will know them as season ticket holders in the James Hargreaves stand. John always liking the crack and they being a very popular couple. RIP John and Susan.

Awful news.

Did see a brief report about this on the Burnley Express website earlier, didn't give any details just mentioned the couple were on holiday in Hurghada when it happened.

Condolences to all their family and friends and RIP fellow Clarets.

I've known John (in particular) and Susan for many years, back to the glory days of the Hop in the seventies. This news is a great shock to me, indeed. Lost for words. RIP

Sad news, as always sympathy to family and friends, on BBC news website that an investigation is under way, no specific information at present.

I saw this thread yesterday but didn't open it as you don't assume it'll be someone you know. I'm away working in the US and my wife told me that John and Susan had passed away. I've not known John for long, maybe 10 years but spent many an hour walking our dogs through Towneley as we both live in the park. Long conversations about the Clarets, away trips and more recently our European adventure. I'm pretty devastated to be honest and we've lost true Clarets who went through the good and the bad, and the worst.I see someone from the family has posted and I'm sure their grief is immense especially in the tragic double circumstances which means theire is now intrusive national press. If the funeral deatails can be put up here when finally known I'll be making every effort to attend. RIP John and Susan.

BBc now reporting that Thomas Cook removing all their customers out of the hotel " as a precautionary measure " ....

John and Susan were good friends of ours, and I was not going to post on here until they had been formally named. They were a lovely couple, great company, and we shall miss them dreadfully. As their nephew has already said, the information contained in the " Mailonline " article is significantly at variance with what we've been told ...

Terribly sad. Recognise the lady from holidays we have booked many times through the shop. All lovely people there. Think she worked on the bureau. Very very sad.

Only ever been ill once abroad. Egypt. It was horrendous. Unsurprising to see its suggested its an illness.

Thoughts to family and colleagues. Awful news. Especially on a holiday :-(

The i is the only news outlet claiming shigellosis was the cause of death of Mr and Mrs Cooper. Others are simply reporting that "other" (many say just 2) guests at that hotel have/had illness caused by shigella. The i seem to be jumping the gun / misreporting the situation, given that they don't give any source of back-up for their claim.

In a TV interview before I read the article, the daughter seemed to suggest that her parents were fine the night before and her child left the room because of a potent smell and was feeling unwell. Her testimony doesn’t align with how this virus behaves, stomach cramps, diarrhoea and general illness for days. They both must have had it at a severe level.

The couples daughter has stated E Coli was not the cause of death. What a terrible series of events and sadly we will probably never know the truth.

I saw a report today about extremely strong insecticides used in the room next door.

https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/world-new ... m-13230742" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

This ties in with the account the Daughter gave in her TV interview. I hope they actually get to the bottom of this, for the sake of the family.
