Now its our turn

Post by cricketfieldclarets » Thu Aug 23, 2018 8:56 pm

An early goal nect week will be huge.

We have beat far better teams than these by two before.

The fans can play a massive part next week. We are still in this. We can still do it.

Lets make the place rock next week. Hopefully the occasion, and the passion goes in our favour.

How apt would it be if we put two agoals in at the jimmy mac end.

Its not over.

Come on Burnley.

Will make for a very interesting game Thursday, glad I’ve got my ticket sorted early.

Score early doors and I think we will be about to see one of the best Turf Moor atmospheres in years.

Totally agree with the OP, am I right in thinking there is an international break after the home match so, no excuse to not play our first 11? I thought Aberdeen were a lot better then them to be honest.

Exactly mate. Unbelievable tonight was buzzing after the first half. Wanted to pull my hair out in desperation, frustration, we can blame the theatrics but this is Europe, wow, we've just played Olympiakos!!! Looking forward to next week!!!!

Well said! Their away record against English clubs in european games is not great -
played 11, won 0, draw 0, lost 11, goals scored 3, goals conceded 35. An intimidating atmosphere at the turf together with an attacking performance should see them off!
I’m going 2-0 Burnley and through on away goals.

2-0 at home next week. Turf Moor has to be as hostile and unwelcoming for Olympiakos as possible. Not in an aggressive or violent way, just unnerving and in your face. Make the away side find it a difficult atmosphere to play in.

you would expect the away end to be full as they have a huge fan base in the UK. No excuse for a **** atmosphere win lose or draw, next Thursday should be a show of appreciation to the lads of how far they've come in such a short space of time

Remember going to White Hart Lane in the Championship promotion season, delight at half time, 4-1 down at full time and a turf under the lights atmosphere that we’ll probably never see again. If we can get anywhere near that atmosphere it’s gonna be one hell of a night.

I do worry about our inability to score more than 1 goal in a game.
But still proud of the team.
I keep pinching myself that we're in Europe and the squad is full of internationals

It'll take one almighty effort to beat Olympakios at the Turf.

I think we'll need a full house at the Turf with everyone really behind the team
and we'll hopefully get an early goal which will spur the team on and intimidate them
into making mistakes.

They do look pretty good going forward and will probably think they can get a goal
at the Turf.

Who knows?

Having just watched the game would say we did reasonably ok in the first half
without playing that well.
But we were killed off with those two goals and they looked by far the better team
albeit we did well in the last 30 mins with ten men.

Would have been interesting to see how well we would have done with a fit Brady and Defour
playing but alas we're going to have to wait a few weeks, if not more, before that is likely to happen
and we're more than likely be out of Europe by then.

I know what you’re saying. Nothing wrong with controlled aggression.

I just meant no violence or aggression as in throwing seats on the pitch and/or starting a few fires in Tesco car park!

So that's 1 goal scored every 3.67 matches but over 3 goals conceded every match!

Going to be tough, but we are still in it.

That is all you can ask for when you are 3-1 down with ten men with thirty minutes left.

It will be a tough ask but its not over yet. We have come back from tbis position before (and worse) - away at City we were 2-0 down at half tine and dead in our firat Prem season under Dyche but took a point.

So we can turn this around. They got a big slice of luck to get a 3-1 result and if we can get that at home we cpuld do well. We caused them a few problems - even at the death.

Olympiakos didn't look anything special at all tonight. They've got a lively front 3 behind the target man, but other than that they were pretty functional and unremarkable and the ease with which Barnes and Wood disrupted their centre backs in the first half gives me a reasonable amount of confidence that if we can get enough quality in and around their box, we'll get enough chances to score a couple of goals. Our challenge will be keeping the back door shut whilst we chase the game. And it might also depend on whether we go for the game, and both Lennon and JBG, or whether we see Taylor on the left hand side.

I’m strangely and unusually rather optimistic. If we are 1 nil up with 10/15 to go they won’t know what to do, attack for an away goal and be open or defend and come under increasing pressure and ariel bombardment.
If we can get enough quality into the box in key moments then we have a hell of a chance.

Should have had a penalty in the first minute. Some disgraceful refereeing from a real 'homer'. Yet another who strolled around the pitch thinking people had turned up to see him.

Get the Fab 4 back together at the back and that's not happening at t'Turf.

To stand a chance, we need a change in mindset and tactics. Southampton - we didn't score. Watford - Foster didn't have a save to make and the same last night. We need to get at these lot, they aren't great.
