Waving a rival flag around in a foreign country is still a dickish thing to do.
No personal tragedy alters that.

Re: Burnley fan stabbed before the game.
I saw parts of it and just got confused, the photo was took literally in the main center where all the Burnley fans are. A Greek man that was a fan of Panathinaikos was giving the flag to many people to hold and take photos of us with it. Embracing their culture.Bordeauxclaret wrote:Don’t read the rest of the thread vizeh.
You and that flag caused no end of trouble. Apparently.
People which yet again have no context of the situation made it look like we was walking around the entirety of Athens with it. Which is not the case at all, That was the only time I even touched that flag and it's unfortunate that it got spreaded across all of social media the way it has. When it literally was to show Burnley fans were in Greece haha.

Secondly, it's just an opinion, based on your back catalogue.
I could be wrong of course, but if waving rival flags floats your boat, then knock yourself out.

You'll never win on here Vizeh. Grumpy old men aren't generally keen on young lads going out and having fun.

It was a joke mate aha, it was a light-hearted show ran by The Sportman where it was me and a few lads in the pub with a pint. Literally instantly I said it as a joke and didn't mean it seriously. If you're intending of using that as something against me then there's literally no point in this conversation.Cleveleys_claret wrote:Did you not in a recent podcast which was broadcast on facebook state that everyone in Burnley was in benefits, when asked if you didnt do what you were doing now what would you be doing.

Envy / Jealousy / Prejudice. especially when unfounded are pretty sad traits. Fortunately it speaks more about the people who have them feelings...Vizeh wrote:It means alot honestly, i've had alot of people of all ages from 10 to 80 years old tell me how much they enjoy them. No personal tragedy alters that.
I had Panathinaikos fans asking for selfies with me and my BFC shirt at the airport, on the train, during my walk to the hotel, during my walk to the meeting point. All very friendly - as were the, presumably, fans of Olympiacos and AEK who jeered us for doing so. No bad vibes at all during my whole 23 hours in the city!Vizeh wrote:I saw parts of it and just got confused, the photo was took literally in the main center where all the Burnley fans are. Which is why people were advised to use the free official transport that was put on by the club. All the advice beforehand was that that is what happens after games in Pireaus.Longside4evr wrote:Different story on the metro after the game we got a right kicking

Give the lad some slack. He isn't doing these things to be a dick and he certainly wasn't the reason for someone being stabbed.

These Panathinaikos fans may have family/friends who are Olympiakos fans. It’ll be to wind them up. Pictures/stories can go around (start escalating easily) and before you know it some prats want to turn a few Burnley fans over for abit of revenge.

I understand your point, but there was a good reason that Burnley fans were warned not to use the public transport systems or take unnecessary risks. These fans were already known to be violent and looking for trouble regardless of what any individual did or did not do.

Mik - I booked a hotel for three of us in Piraeus and had no problems either the night before the game or the day / night of the match after we eventually reached the hotel in a taxi from the ground.bfcmik wrote:Which is why people were advised to use the free official transport that was put on by the club. It was a tremendous afternoon in the square.
Anyone giving any Burnley fans stick needs to take a look at themselves.
There were hundreds of us in that square and not one ounce of trouble all afternoon.
It seems that most of the people posting on here giving retrospective advice were nowhere near Athens.

Re: Burnley fan stabbed before the game.
From the official info I read there was never any suggestion that Olympiakos fans were nutjobs and there was more likelihood of trouble than any other games in general. I thought the travel arrangements were provided more for fans to be able to get to and from the ground because of transport difficulties, i.e. Metro, after the game, like Istanbul that was difficult to reach esp. after the game.
I have never followed European games or teams so honestly didnt really have any idea of them being headcases to that extent.
With its tourist popularity and Piraeus being the main port for Athens I thought it'd have been quite tourist friendly but clearly wasn't.

What we learned here, is that if you used the transport that the club provided (for free) you would not have had any problems even if you were wearing colours.

You would never of guessed from being out there all day before the game there could be trouble.

You can walk through burnley without a hint of trouble most days, but see what happens if you walk round, posing for photos with a rovers flag....
