Burnley fan stabbed before the game.

I saw at least one fan that had been stabbed in the leg before kick off in our end. Rumours of a few more.

Shame really as the Greek people have been wonderful so far.

This rumour was floating around during the first half. There was definitely a Burnley fan jumped pre-game having travelled on the metro by a group of masked Olympiakos fans.

I definitely saw him with blood down his leg on his shorts etc. Not life threatening but still.

Yes heard the sane, although we were strongly advised to avoid metro and taxi rides to the stadium as "they wont think twice at attacking fans , intent in causing trouble or not " from a police officers point of view.
They were briefed post match as to the treatment we were going to receive.

A 1 hour coach ride is a no brainer as far as staying safe was concerned.

Said it would be completely different out there to istanbul. Olympiakos are crazy. And not to be under estimated by anyone intending to cause any bother. (Not saying thats whats happened here).

You have to respect the place you are visiting, and also keep your wits about you. Getting ****** all day, drawing attention to yourself or behaving like dickheads in places like athens, rome, istanbul, belgrade, marseille etc will always end in tears if one of the big sides are at home. Only reason it probably didnt happen in istanbul is because of who we were playing.

Not good all the same and hope its not serious.

One fan only asked for a program outside the ground and got started on. Stewards and police got him away safely.

I would ban away fans next week to save our reputation. Not worth the risk.

I agree. But at the same time you have also got to respect the place you are visiting.

Some of the way a handful of fans behaved in Turkey Could have ended in a very different scenario (like tonights or much worse - luckily it didnt). And 9 times out of 10 it will be an innocent caught up in it.

Its also very different to travelling with England where if you are caught up in it, unless you are very very unlucky you will usually get away with it as there are thousands there with you. Not the case with a small team like Burnley! Very easy to end up isolated / targeted.

Hope all affected enjoy the rest of the trip and come home safe...

Totally agreed.

I'm actually suprised with the amount of people wearing colours /flags out in public.

These really are hostile places that have some nasty 'fans'.
I think sometimes people's own righteousness can work against them; as you couldn't possibly believe people would act like that.

I think some people think it is ok to attack people for no other reason then they support a different team. It's just sad and pathetic. No doubt next week a Greek fan will get attacked for daring to visit Burnley.

You should be able to wear your shirt etc. But putting flags up in a bar all day getting smashed in a foreign country is daft imo.

Doing it with England when there is 20,000 of you is totally different.

It's the tribal mentality, Burnley going onto their 'patch'... if it would've been any other time of the year on the metro there'd be 0 issues.

Also, I'd say that segment of our support has been eradicated at home games. Opposing fans walk through the town in colours all the time and get light hearted banter at the very most (how it should be).

Nobody deserves to get stabbed / bottled etc. Its an inevitability in Europe in many cases. Sad but true.

We were warned as of about 12 o'clock not to travel on anything other than club provided coaches.
The way a few were acting around the ground and chanting certain things, it's no surprise they ran into trouble ( if those people were the ones injured )
We all hope people arrive and leave safe, but you need to be aware of your audiance/surroundings. This city in parts is a very intimidating place, and that even with half a dozen 15+ stone blokes.

We also need to behave whilst in these other countries.

No. But wouldnt be surprised if people did. Its common sense to keep your wits about you.

Its naive to think there arent people out there, especially in a place like Athens that will use any excuse to attack opposition fans.

English fans created a reputation for themselves in the 80s and 90s that makes them an automatic target as it is.

Exactly.

And the locals - i.e. none football fans. I've seen first hand many times how fans take the **** and disrespect locals abroad. Especially with England.

The youtube video of United fans in Athens was a typical example. Waving euro notes etc.

You have to be vigilant in these places. Have a beer. Soak it up. Have the crack. Just dont be a dickhead. In this country you can probably get away with it.

No disrespect to anyone injured etc. As above. Hope all are safe and well.

I used to work for a Greek guy. To say that he made my life interesting would be an understatement. There was something in his DNA that didn't like a normal, quiet lifestyle. He once invited everybody out for a night on the town, and HE started a fight afterwards. To say that he had a macho attitude would be an understatement. They say that the Mediterraneans are capable of having "red flashes". That would be an understatement.
