The premiership 7th down is extended championship

Post by s6t9a2f3f » Mon Aug 27, 2018 12:08 am

Looking at the way we played today and to a degree last sunday and premiership games like yesterdays Huddersfield v Cardiff and todays Newcastle at home game where their procession was 19% alot is pretty average stuff lets be honest. When you look at the way say Leeds are playing the gulf is virtually zero. There's only 5 championship games gone I accept that but considering the 3 teams that got relegated from the premiership last season none of them had to sell any players unless they wanted to - the highest position of the 3 is 10th so far with the other 2 11th and 17th. Apart from the top 6 of the premiership that 99% of the time have the league to themselves (a leicester fluke season apart) then if they can get consistent a Everton type team could get 7th and after that put the rest in a bag shake them up and fill out the rest of the table. The main thing that seperates the wheat from the chaff between the 2 divisions is the last third of the field that extra quality and a consistent goalscorer at premiership level. The fitness, the shape set up of a team, the backroom amount of staff, the pc reports of stats etc etc there's little between those professionalisms.
Is there a huge difference in the difficulty of surviving a premiership season by finishing 4th bottom upwards and getting out of the championship ? I would say very little between them.

There’s a massive difference.

We’re basically playing 13/14 teams that would win the championship, 5/6 teams that could win the PL. It’s a massive gulf in class than having games against shite like Millwall and Bolton.

It’s like having that Boro home game 13 times and having to win it 9 times.

I'd say it's harder to win the Championship than it is to survive in the PL

23 games undefeated by us and 21 by Brighton would suggest different

Hope that was drink talking absolute no chance that 13/14 teams in the prem now would drop down and WIN the championship. If we dropped in there right now would not put a penny on it - think we would do very well but guaranteed win it ? not for me. You can add several more to the list as well starting with Huddersfield and Cardiff.

Having watched a few Championship matches so far the gulf is massive.
Exciting matches and good football but not the overall quality of the PL.

Ok then. Huddersfield/Cardiff aside.

Games against Leicester, Bournemouth, Watford, Newcastle, West Ham, Everton, Southampton, Wolves, Fulham, CP, Brighton adds up to 22 games. You dont play 22 games in the championship against teams of that standard. Maybe about 6/8 a season. You play 6/8 against play off contenders. The rest against mid table/relegtion standard teams.

That forgetting the 12 games (almost a 3rd of PL) against title contenders.

Be interesting pal as since the 3 teams that got relegated from the premiership were "established" teams (Swansea, West Brom and Stoke) then your theory is one of them should win the league and the other 2 teams there or thereabouts.

The Wolves and Fulham squads have been strengthened massively since they came up from the Championship which is what outside investment allows promoted teams to do. They do not have to spend 1 or 2 seasons surviving in the PL before they can invest in the playing staff.

The 3 relegated teams from the PL all now have managers in charge who are unproven at the highest level and their squads have undergone an overhaul. The 3 teams may have become "established" but the managers have yet to convince.
