Post by Dyched » Tue Aug 28, 2018 2:31 pm

In the market for a refurbished iMac decent PC/Laptop. Don’t wanting to be spending more than about £350/400.

Gonna be needing it for scanning/storing/editing 35mm film. Also pretty light video editing etc

Help me you knowledgable folk

I think £400 will get you an iMac from 2011/2012.
If it's just for light stuff, you'd be absolutely fine.
As for PCs, I'm not so sure, but you could definitely get something a year or two old with beefier specs.

For laptops I've used this ebay seller a few times and they seem to be reliable with decent prices https://www.ebay.co.uk/usr/newandusedlaptops4u" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Although if you have the space I would favour a proper PC with separate monitor, etc for your purposes (or possibly a Mac, I know nothing about them).

Dyched, I have a Imac 24" which is gathering dust here in my office. I used to use it for Finalcut and the like. If you want to get in touch I'll happily sell it to a fellow claret. Will be less than what you want to spend too.

Let me know.

Don't buy refurbished. Build your own brand new, it's a piece of ****. For £400 you can get a pc that'll last your for 5 years minimum if it's just for light stuff like watching porn and browsing for cat pictures. use PC Parts Picker to build it virtually and to avoid compatibility problems as well as helping you fit within your budget.

Buying refurbished is fine, but you'll likely still be paying twice as much as if you bought the exact same parts 2nd hand from ebay and built it yourself.

Also, if you build it yourself you can save a bunch by buying an OEM Windows 10 key for like £25 and download the OS itself from the Microsoft website.

You got any more details?

Been looking at a few today on ebay etc at what I think are reasonable prices.

Dante, as per the last post drop me an e-mail but I’ll have to give Dyched first refusal, obviously.
