Wimbledon v Burnley 1985 FA cup
Could someone please tell me who played for us and for Wimbledon on that day. I've lost the program and can't remember. I know we lost 3-1 and scored very late on.
Thanks

I was going to say I don't know that was the only game I saw him in. But I reckon he might also have been in the 4-0 Tuesday night drubbing at Bristol Rovers (4-0 at half time, Tommy Hutchison sweeper)Spijed wrote:Did Roger Hansbury ever play well for us?

No, I draw the line at opposition line-ups !!
The surprise for us was Steven Kennedy who played just 18 games in a four year spell with us during which he failed to score.

Phelan was also a very good player, especially alongside Big Vince O who was more than decent too. Biggins was no slouch and with Hutchinson and Grewcock in the side we should have been doing better!

I also watched a Freight Rover Trophy (or whatever it was called then) Quarter or Semi Final there in 1982 and lost 5-0. Brian Miller played the youth team and reserves to concentrate on winning the 3rd division.

Re: Wimbledon v Burnley 1985 FA cup
Was in the Wimbledon social club before the game. Everyone slating Benson. The team coach pulled up, we went outside and started chanting “Benson out, Benson out” when he walked across the road and handed me 12 tickets for the game!! We got a performance worthy of the cost. Bugger all.

Dreadful goalkeeper and the slowest pair of full backs this side of walking football. Never saw enough of Kennedy to pass judgement, but Phelan, Overson, Hird, Grewcock, Biggins and Hutchison either had or went on to play at a much higher level than we found ourselves at. Always had a dislike for Devine, particularly after a couple of us were giving the team a load of stick as they came off the pitch at Chester the following season after an abject 4-0 surrender and he turned and laughed at us.Cocker Claret wrote:1 R Hansbury

Nail hit firmly on the head elsewhere, a team with those players should have been more than capable of holding its own in the Third Division, were it not for the one of the two worst managers Burnley have ever had in charge of proceedings. The other worst manager was next but one after Benson slung his hook.

But was past his best when we got him. Spent the majority of his career skinning FBs and delivering wonderful crosses but when we got him he was putting it in at the earliest opportunity but from 30yds up the touchline. It was still good to have him when he had his days.Spijed wrote:Tommy Hutchinson was a very good player.

I was there that night too. Talked a few lads from the local in Camden town to go to the game. Wished I'd not bothered.
Didn't know any of the team Burnley put out that night!
Think we got fined?
Remember it peeing down too.
Miserable night.
