GAME PLAN
GAME PLAN
How do we overcome Olympiakos?
Don't concede score two end of thread! Can it be done and tactically how do we approach the game?
They will be happy to sit back and break at pace. Which is a worry as we are a little wobbly at the back to say the least. An early goal would be immensely helpful to put pressure on the away side.
Cometh the hour cometh the man will Vydra mark his place in history at Turf Moor for football eternity.

Re: GAME PLAN
Not conceding in the first 3 minutes would be a good start.
The earlier we can score the better. Pressure will tell against most foreign teams, their temperament tells against them. They wouldn't get away with the histrionics away from home.

If we don't come out flying tonight I'll be hugely disappointed, i expect the players an fans right up for it a bit like the semi final v spurs under Coyle. An early goal for us would help they would get nervous.Colburn_Claret wrote:Not conceding in the first 3 minutes would be a good start.

If we come out slow an negative the fans will get edgy an feel an they'll be a very damp feeling around Turf Moor which could knock on all season. Tonight's the night the players can come out flying an get the fans right behind them

Here's a strategic suggestion. If the ref's Romanian, fire bomb his car.

Did you attend the judas return at home against Bolton in the cup. Wow that was hostile. Be good if the ground was something like that tonight.bumba wrote:If we don't come out flying tonight I'll be hugely disappointed, i expect the players an fans right up for it a bit like the semi final v spurs under Coyle. Re: GAME PLAN
I'm not shocked to read the equivalent of "they don't like it up em" to be honest.
Sensible game plan to take advantage of the fact they didn't like the crosses coming into the box, but it has to be said that the keeper looked generally solid in that respect, his centre halves couldn't handle Barnes at all.

Re: GAME PLAN
Every single Olympiakos fan I spoke to said were too direct. Not word for word.. but long balls were mentioned a lot.
That to me says we should go more direct, as they don’t like it...

Re: GAME PLAN
Regardless of the outcome, I hope our players show how frustrated they are with the refereeing performance and their evident influence with the official at half time from the previous game. I want to see that frustration channelled properly to give the opposition a British footballing experience they will never forget.
Go for it Burnley.

Re: GAME PLAN
The fans will play a massive part tonight, if we score I imagine we’ll raise the roof to drive the team on. When we kicked off against Instanbul it felt like a practice match with an almost eerie feel to the opening of the game .Id imagine a decent Greek turn out from the U.K. based fans at least .

Re: GAME PLAN
I don't recall there being any air of expectancy v Spurs in that tie. 4-1 down told it's own story. There was a feeling of trying to gain some respectability from the game and in the early minutes of the game Spurs could and should have wrapped it up with two gilt-edged chances. Don't think it was until Chris McCann scored our second that the feeling that 'something was on' spread. Then came the third and then came the heartache. I take on board what you are saying but above all I believe that if the scores are still 0-0 at h/t then there is still the outside chance we started the game with.bumba wrote:If we don't come out flying tonight I'll be hugely disappointed, i expect the players an fans right up for it a bit like the semi final v spurs under Coyle. Agreed. Patience is needed. 0-0 at Half time would be far better than 0-1 or even 1-1

Re: GAME PLAN
I get your point, but it could well be it for us if we don't strike early on. The longer it goes, the more defensive and time wasting the opposition will become, and I don't feel we have the nous to break them down just now if that is so. Bull and bluster. Get stuck in and make them work for it.Down_Rover wrote:Agreed. Patience is needed. 0-0 at Half time would be far better than 0-1 or even 1-1
For me, get on the front foot from the first whistle.
Re: GAME PLAN
Direct barnes and vokes up top or barnes and wood.
Crowd get behind them.
Early goal.
Easy win.

Re: GAME PLAN
If we go 1 up early the atmosphere tonight will be absolutely electric and akin to the Burnley Wigan match all those years ago knowing exactly what we need to do .UTC NNN

Re: GAME PLAN
Barnes and Wood to start.
We can do it
We can do it
Re: GAME PLAN
We simply have to go for it.
Whilst ensuring by Herculean efforts a clean sheet for 90 minutes as if our lives depend on it.
In short it has to be a 2-0 win basically.

Re: GAME PLAN
I can remember driving over for the Spurs game saying i thought something special was going to happen. I don't know where the feeling came from as most others were expecting a dead rubber. I expected a performance and genuinely thought we'd get back into the tie, which we did before the heartache.bumba wrote:If we don't come out flying tonight I'll be hugely disappointed, i expect the players an fans right up for it a bit like the semi final v spurs under Coyle. I don't have that feeling today. I'll be there cheering us on as always but this team doesn't have the same attacking freedom as the Coyle side. If ever there was a night to take the shackles off it's tonight. We can dream.

Lock the door behind the referee at half time and put super glue on the seat of Evangelos Marinakis.

Re: GAME PLAN
We'll get the chances which, of course, we'll have to take and I think we will.
The most important thing is not to concede. If we just throw the kitchen sink at em, and go gung ho, you can bet they'll score on the break, cos that's what they're after. Then they'll shut up shop and it'll be over.
Gotta use our brains as well as our hearts.

Re: GAME PLAN
Thing is about the Spurs game is that it was an absolute stinker of a night.
Proper Lancashire weather
That would be perfect for tonight, but sadly not likely in August
