Fortunately it isn't fans who decide who is and who isn't wanted.

Re: £8m wasted
Who's to say we won't recoup 8m if we sell Wells at the end of the year? The way the market is going, you never know.
Re: £8m wasted
Not to mention the £50m they spent on Mustafi, £30m on Xhaka etc etcClaretLoup wrote:Our back five plus all the back ups cost about £15 million and their defensive record was only bettered by the top 3 clubs last season.
This proves a couple of things, first our recruitment system appears to be pretty good, secondly that it is a hell of a lot more
difficult to buy forwards who are up to Premier League standards especially the top end.
The club who finished in the position immediately above Burnley last season spent £47million on Lacazette and £56 million on Aubameyang.
Fortunately for Arsenal they can afford to keep on making expensive mistakes.
How many £25m mistakes could Burnley afford ? (and add on £10m for their wages).
The players we have mentioned above are household names - take a look at some of the £15m / £20m+ failed transfer signings made at West Ham, Everton, Southampton, Swansea, Leicester, Stoke and a few other clubs...most of us would not even recognise them.
This Premier League stuff is unprecendeted territory for a lot of managers and chairmen / owners - it most definitely is for Dyche and Garlick.
Multi national companies don't just happen over 5 or 6 years - they evolve over 30 or 40 years gradually growing their turnover and understanding that as they grow they need more experience and specialist roles on their board or senior management teams.
Football breaks all these normal business rooms and you do end up with a lot of clowns with big egos in very powerful positions with £100m / £200m burning a hole in their pocket and along comes someone like Harry Redknapp who has less commercial sense than his dog but because he's a real "football man" they let him loose with their money.....what other group of shareholders or directors in the world would allow this ?
Luckily we do not have a clown chairman or a Harry Redknapp type manager - but what we probably do lack is the inexperience or infrastructure at a senior level to get the balance right between being frugal and getting deals done. That said I don't think any of us realise how difficult it is in this market to sign players when several clubs are targeting the same ones.
Its disappointing that we seem to be regularly falling on the side of frugal rather than spending but I doubt its for the want of trying and probably more with inexperience in getting deals over the line.

It cant be denied that Wells was an odd signing and, with the benefit of Hindsight, Walters was a poor one. So to say £8m has been wasted is not unfair.JohnMac wrote:Fortunately it isn't fans who decide who is and who isn't wanted.
I just wonder how much more we would have wasted if the cheque book was in the hands of the spendthrift posters on this board
Re: £8m wasted
Why is it that the standard response to any criticism is "why not suppprt Man City". Its such a trite line and adds zero to any conversation.
Standard response? Hardly. Apologies if I've upset you but everyday we have to read about how the club continues to balls everything up yet is its best position in years. If it's not wasted money on a transfer, the online ticket system, not buying the park view, the disastrous recruitment policy. I could go on. Unfortunately whatever burnley fc does it will never be good enough for some. Too many bright lights I'm afraid.

It's interesting to look back on all the signings Dyche has made because he's made a good few howlers along the way. Some of them were relatively low risk signings given the low fees paid for them but that doesn't detract from their failure to succeed with our club. Whether it's The Juke, Marvin Sordell, Steven Reid, Rouwen Hennings, Jelle Vossen, Freddy Ulvestad, Patrick Bamford, Jon Flanagan, Jon Walters or Nakhi Wells... they were all brought into the club by SD and had little or no impact. We obviously can't forget the number of fantastic signings Sean has also made. Overall, his record is very strong and mighty impressive. Our progression under his tenure proves as much.
However, what this proves is every Manager brings in a percentage of players that don't work out... even Sir Alex signed a good few duffers over the years! The only reason I bring this up is there's a bit of a blinkered view on this where Sean is concerned. We only need to compare his treatment with that of his predecessor to see as much. Eddie Howe brought in some fantastic players during his time yet we have a number of supporters who can't wait to remind you about the likes of Dane Richards and Zavon Hines as soon anyone mentions Eddie in a positive light. I wonder if those same people will be the same once Sean moves on?

well spotted ! lets have some positivity as we've two very important games . We're on our way.....Woodleyclaret wrote:Thats the sum wasted on two players who are not deemed good enough.
Whovever sanctioned paying an alleged£5m for Wells injured at the time wants seriously disciplining.
Jon Walters could have worked out but I hope we will at least get some money back when his loan becomes permanent.Wells we will have to write off as QPR are skint.
A serious overhaul of our scouting system and recruitment is needed. We have bought several duds in recent times.Juke Sordell and Long to name a few

How much it has cost the Club depends on how much these players sell for? The OP must have an amazing life given he has so much hindsight on decisions.

Let's focus on the duds not on the following:
Heaton
Pope
Lowton
Keane
Tarky
Ward
Defour
Cork
Barton
JBG
Barnes
Gray
Wood
apologies if I have missed any. Serious overhaul of recruitment required.

Soooo basically you want Sean Dyche 'seriously disciplining' do you? Because every signing will ultimately and obviously be sanctioned by the manager first and foremost.Woodleyclaret wrote:Thats the sum wasted on two players who are not deemed good enough.

The entertainment I'd get from here just with the signing of McLean would be totally worth it.Down_Rover wrote:And a load of foreigners who have never heard of Burnley
