Looks the biggest test for batting in of the series. Swinging round corners.

Know I'm not the only TMS fan on here.
There have been some memorable moments down the years on there.
More recently some excellent podcasts.

Listened to this the other day.
It's a brilliantly written and, very moving email sent in and read by Agnew.

Are there any openers in English cricket who fancy making a go of it?

Mouth. Cook gone. Absolute shambles. Must have been taking batting tips from Lancashire.

Oops! Cook keeps doing this getting to 15/20 or even 30 and then finding a way of getting out,a penny for Jimmy and Stuart's thoughts, they probably hoped for a day putting their feet up,might well find themselves bowling before tea.

Fair does the ball has nipped about this morning, but the 1st morning of a Test Match that's to be expected,England have neither the technique or the application to fend off the new ball, and then build a score, even in the nadir of the 1990's at least the batsman showed some fight.

The worry for me is i'm not sure the ECB give a toss,as long as the white ball results keep churning out and the coffers are full.

True but i'm not sure you can lay the blame totally at his door,he won the toss and batted first, you expect your senior players to step up and deliver, sadly it won't happen but i'd change the entire top order,if nothing else it might give them a wake-up call that their places aren't guaranteed.

The problem is i've got no idea who the replacements would be,Hameed can't score runs for Lancashire never mind England,Bairstow is a good middle order player but he's never a NO 4 in Test Cricket.

Agree Joey, root should not be captain. Fair play to the Indians, they have bowled very well this morning, but our front line batsmen are not up to Test Match standards. Oh for a Boycott, a Barrington or a Gooch.

Could do worse than give Stoneman and Ian Bell a chance in the final Test both scoring heavily in County cricket i notice.

Check out how many times England have reached 300 in First innings since Root has been captain, I’m guessing not many times , partly down to poor batting and partly down to his decisions

Seems to all be on Stokes and Buttler again, they can't keep producing miraculous recoveries, the one positive for England is the Indians could well find it just as difficult to bat on this surface, still doesn't excuse another feeble first morning from England again.

Seems like it's all gone wrong since Root became captain, not all his fault of course but seems to go hand in hand

I'm going tomorrow, before the toss I was hoping to see England bowl - looks like I'll get my wish.

Partial fightback 122-6 Moeen and Curran battling,if England can somehow get to 250ish,then we might still have a game on.

BTW the over rate is pathetic once more, needs to be clamped down on in some form.

Agree Bordeaux re the review but Broad would only waste it too!

Can't even use the reviews properly waste 2 on Root and Stokes, and then Rashid pays the price.Marginally better afternoon for England Moeen and Curran played sensibly to at least give the bowlers something to work with,if Sam Curran hasn't earned his tour spot with this innings, then the selectors really are barmy.

Excellent recovery, in the end!
Much higher total than many would have thought.

A few poor shots but, credit when due. The Indian's bowled really well.

Another Edgbaston scenario it's a one innings match, one or both of the openers have to make runs,in this situation a fifty would be invaluable.
Can't keep relying on the middle/lower order to bail the main batsman out.

A 225 lead may be enough (if we can bat well enough to get there). Given Moeen's 5fer on day2, India wont want to chase too many on day4.
I'm off to days 1 & 3 at the Oval, it'd be good to relax with a beer or two there rather than sit through a nail-biter if India level at Southampton & have the momentum.
Would be brilliant if the openers can get past 50 for starters tomorrow & one of the Yorkies got a 50+ (both are capable but recently out of sorts).
Let's get some form back in the batting before the ashes next year.

Cook failing again, and what is the idea of Moeen being promoted to 3,Sharma is on a final warning for running on the pitch,i'm not sure what benefit India gain from roughing up the surface they have to bat last after all.

Big partnership now for these two Jennings has a start can he convert and Root owes England a captain's innings.

Pathetic dismissal by Bairstow, that would be a poor shot in the closing overs of a 20/20 game. What the hell do England's batsman do in practice, your opener has just been dismissed,a pivotal period in the Test and he plays a slog like that.

And now Root when set on 48 has been needlessly run out again.caused by a stupid call by Stokes, schoolboy errors by England with apologies to schoolboys.

260-8 at the close leading by 233,Rashid out in the last over,Curran again showing great maturity.India will be needing 250 or so to win,not impossible but difficult with the variable bounce that's appearing.

Just had an e-mail from Hants CCC - offering e-tickets for tomorrow for £45 (/ £5 for U17s). I might go for that given the state of the match & the weather forecast.
Even if England lose 2 wickets quickly (hopefully not), it should take most of the day for India to get the runs/get out- so plenty of playing time in prospect.
I have to agree with the last comment re Sam Curran- good technique and terrific attitude.

You are correct, Leadbelly, about Curran having 'terrific attitude'. I wish some of his more senior team mates had the same attitude . I would seriously consider dropping Cooke (unspeakable?), Bairstow and a couple of others before the winter tours.

The amount of times England lose wickets in the last over/or the resumption of a session is scandalous,i don't have a problem wielding the axe who's going to take their places is a different matter, what Bairstow was thinking with that heave goodness knows.

Always a run there, the problem was root was running like Jan mollby and couldn't be arsed to dive cause he didn't know where the ball was
