Referee tonight
Thought he was absolutely fantastic. Yes at times, he was very officious, but he took no prisoners and the yellow cards were justified. I can see why he was elected to officiate a Champions League Final. Top class.

Re: Referee tonight
Totally agree, best ref at the turf for ages. Didn’t take any sh*t and best of all, gave a fowl throw for pinching yards. The premier league refs need to be more like him.

Agreed. Thought he was very impressive and didn't fall for all their theatrics.

Gave Hendrick a small bollocking for touching him which was interesting to see.

Re: Referee tonight
Was very good. Didnt dish out yellows for the sake of it. Dished them out when deserved. Let the game flow when it needed to. Picked up on small fouls and cheating in the main. No grumbles.

Best referee we've had in the competition for me
Re: Referee tonight
Aye, quality. Really showed his expirience. Referees do deserve more credit for the good performances too

Re: Referee tonight
Don't think you will see a ref who's quicker across the ground. Have to question time added on, 6 subs, 2 goals and stretcher on. No complaints.

Re: Referee tonight
Not seen any replays but I thought we could have had a couple of penny's, first half think it was Hendrick who was fouled nearly went down but stayed on his feet and then vokes second half , as I said not seen footage but !!
Re: Referee tonight
Is this some kind of "woosh" thread....cos its going right over my head.
4 minutes injury time.
Booked Barnes for nothing other than pointing out their cheating and time wasting.
Booked Mee for nothing.
And worst of all allowed them to constantly cheat feigning injury and did nothing about it at all.

With the speed he ran up to players after giving fouls Dyche should be looking to sign him up.

Re: Referee tonight
I don't think he was flawless but more than that I don't have a shadow of doubt that if we'd had a ref of his calibre in the first leg we'd be in that draw right now.
And it truly breaks my heart.

Perhaps it’s time the PL tried poaching referees like this bloke. Not often I comment on a referees performance, particularly when it’s been decent, but he was very good.

I think it was Westwood - caught him which took his stride away from him. Would have been interesting had he gone down.Ooogeorgeorgeoghani wrote:Not seen any replays but I thought we could have had a couple of penny's, first half think it was Hendrick who was fouled nearly went down but stayed on his feet and then vokes second half , as I said not seen footage but !!

Re: Referee tonight
He was the closest thing we've had to a referee the entire competition.
1 added minute in first half?
Should've been 5.
Think he was losing control towards the end hence the silly cards for our players

Re: Referee tonight
A lesson for all Premier League referees tonight. Got very little wrong.
You see it every week when a player is booked, they get very few decisions their way for the rest of the game. Not tonight. You get your card and all is forgiven.

Re: Referee tonight
We've seen some awful stuff in the PL and in the first leg on Greece but credit where it's due this was a good one.

Re: Referee tonight
Not a difficult game to officiate in. Nothing controversial to deal with or any nasty tackles or fouls. A lot of feigning injury and of course time wasting which they obviously got away with. As long as that 2 goal difference remained it was pretty comfortable for both him and the opposition and they both went home happy.

Re: Referee tonight
It didn't matter tonight. They kicked us to bits in the first 20 minutes over there, and the tosser, who ref fed the game, got away with a shite performance. It's called Europe boys and girls, thank God for Brexit.

Re: Referee tonight
I think Barnes was probably booked for foul and abusive language together with questioning the referee's decision. I don't know if that's correct but as he walked away with his back to the ref he looked to be dishing out the verbals.

That’s how to referee a game. I wish the Premier League referees were at that standard across the board.

I think Barnes tried lifting one of their players up who was making the most of an injury.

very good apart from not dishing out a few more deserved bookings to the greeks.

Re: Referee tonight
Booked both for dissent, as he should have. If you book players for dissent like that, it stops it escalating to what we see every week in the league where 10 men surround the referee.TVC15 wrote:Is this some kind of "woosh" thread....cos its going right over my head.

Thought he was great, any time there was a foul he was straight across to the player with an urgency that made me feel a red card was coming. Thought he was in complete control.

Re: Referee tonight
The first one where he got sandwiched he was never going to get the ball, although you see them given I think the ref called it right.Ooogeorgeorgeoghani wrote:Not seen any replays but I thought we could have had a couple of penny's, first half think it was Hendrick who was fouled nearly went down but stayed on his feet and then vokes second half , as I said not seen footage but !!
The second I thought he went down far too easy.
I think we had a half hearted shout for a handball second half, but again it was iffy.
I thought the ref was excellent, such a shame that we can't have that standard every week.

No idea, seemed 1 or 2 minutes short to me. But that isn't going to make me change my view that he was a good referee.Grumps wrote:All you saying he was so good can you explain why only 4 mins added time please

Re: Referee tonight
If I had been refereeing and Barnes had said to me what he shouted at the referee, which from my vantage point in the BL stand was clear to hear, he would certainly have gone in the book and would have been warned to control himself or he would be off. It was a very straighforward booking.
