UEFA considering the idea of a 3rd club cup competition.
Didn't realise it's been nearly 20yrs since the Cup Winners Cup was ended

Yes from me - reward teams (and fans) who treat the cup competitions in the right manner, making them a more attractive prospect.
Fantastic memories of watching the Cup Winners Cup as a child, and wouldn't this provide a more attainable route into Europe for teams like us(we aren't going to finish in the top 6/7 every year).
These 2 paragraphs sum the yawn fest that is the Champs and Europa League (our involvement aside) -
"since Jose Mourinho’s Porto won the Champions’ League in 2004, Europe’s top club competition has remained in the hands of Spanish, English, German and Italian clubs.
The Europa League has started to go the same way as the Champions’ League too. While Zenit St. Petersburg and Shakhtar Donetsk won the Europa League around a decade ago, the last seven tournaments have been won by just four different clubs from England and Spain."
There's nothing to say these leagues wouldn't dominate a new tournament, but at least it would be different teams.

If they make the champions league ONLY for champions then an absolute yes from me. Was no reason to get rid of the cup winners cup.
But it wouldnt work now if its just another competition for teams who finish 10th!

It's a bit sh*t how Champions League teams drop into the Europa League, makes a mockery of the Europa league if anything. Celtic lost in Champions League qualifying and end up having to play 1 easy tie to qualify for the Europa League.

Get what you mean with Celtic but they did play 4 qualifying fixtures in total and won 3 to get in the Europa the same amount we had to.KRBFC wrote:It's a bit sh*t how Champions League teams drop into the Europa League, makes a mockery of the Europa league if anything. The all thing needs a major rethink. You cant just put league champions in the UCL or else it’ll weak as ****. If you ended up with that and 2nd/3rd in Europa that would become a much better/tougher competition.
Re: Reintroduction of a 3rd European club cup competition?
I always thought that the European Cup Winners Cup had more status than the UEFA Cup and I used to enjoy watching the finals. There were some great matches and it's a tough one to win as it's the winners of a knockout competition v. each other.
Re: Reintroduction of a 3rd European club cup competition?
The Cup Winners Cup was a good competition. Knockout is better which is effectively ehat we have just been in. No point having more 'leagues' that go on forever with more Mickey Mouse teams such as Lincoln Red Imps, FC Thon, TNS and the joke clubs the likes of Rangers have just played.
