Word for Joe Hart

Post by cricketfieldclarets » Sun Sep 02, 2018 5:56 pm

Absolutely top drawer today. Especially second half under considerable pressure on and off the field.

Made some truly top saves. And in a huge moment, under huge pressure made a huge penalty save.

Hopefully that shows all who keep doubting him why he is now number 1.

Fantastic display.

Kept the score down today. Fair play to him.

Kept the score reasonable, very unlucky with their 2nd, a couppe of his saves looked world class, from where I was sat.

And people are crucifying him on another thread. MOM and our saviour.
Hopefully lessons from today and our first 4 matches. SD needs to make some decisions. He is over loyal and from what I saw today its time to play Gibson, Vydra, and drop Ben and Lennon. Hopefuly JBG will be fit in two weeks

The save from Lukaku was brilliant, and the penalty.

However, I would have to see it again but the first goal I questioned him on at the time. I would want a keeper to jump with Lukaku there, hope to win a free kick at the worst, punch clear at best. His presence there seemed lacking (but maybe that’s just being used to Popes height). Also punched an easy claim mid second half.

I remain to be wholly convinced as yet - but credit where it is due, the one on one save was exceptional and showed the ability he has.

He's good yes but Tom is our captain. Leader . All that sums up Burnley. If he's second now then **** it

Definitely want to see the first again. Between Hart and the centre halves it looked poor on first viewing.

That makes no sense. It doesn't matter who the captain is. If Hart is playing well (when he can) - then he keeps his place. End of chat.

He did well today and especially with the penalty after the abuse.

4 people equally to blame for the first goal. Hart doesn't require special mention for it.
Overall he had a great game today. Showed his experience, kept calm despite us being in the sh*t.

Great display. Superb penalty save.

Burnley’s no 1?

Not yet. He may end up being, but not yet. A penalty save no more makes him Burnley’s number one than pickfords wc penalty save makes him England’s no1.

Thought he was poor for the first goal. Good saves in 2nd half personally think Heaton is a better all round keeper and should be starting.

I’ve no idea what the answer to this is, but we’ve looked poor organisationally so far this season.

Is any of that down to the goalkeeper?

Probably not...but our goalkeeper is what this thread is about.

There will be another thread somewhere about our tactics... if there isn't yet, there will be soon.

There were a lot of bodies around him. And it would be easier to drop one there than punch it. While I would always prefer a keeper to catch it, at least he punches with conviction.

The reason we came back under pressure is because frustratingly we NEVER leave anyone up!

He should be catching those punch gave possession straight back to them which then led to the penalty.

Good game but can,t help think Pope in particular, Tom too, would have come for the first. I can’t remember Hart particularly being renowned for dominating has 6 yard box..... and defensively we’ve become used to keepers doing just that

I commented “Heaton please...” in the match thread after the first goal - all I could see (from distance in CFS) was Hart flapping at the ball as it went through him. I do need to see it again.

That said, he did exceptionally well with the dogs abuse he got, kept his head, calmed Bardsley a few times and had a great performance after the first goal. The penalty save was superb, and our fans response to it matched the save.

Just wish he wouldn’t punch it so much, it invariably comes straight back at us.

Nah. It floats over and its probably over his head - mee and Tarkowsi were either side of Lukaku and neither put any pressure on him at all. Dont be blaming Hart for that.

Fair enough, like I said from distance looked like he flapped at it - his performance deserves the benefit of the doubt.

There's a few neutrals I know saying the defence doesn't look as confident in Hart as it did last season with Pope or Heaton. While Hart hasn't really done anything wrong, can it really be just a coincidence that our defensive record has gone to pot with the only change being the keeper?

Bring back Heaton imo.

The centre backs treated Lukaku like he had the plague when the ball came over for the first.

Should have at least been challenged for the ball,
not down to Hart for me.

I was watching the big penised one for the first and he just took two steps back between the halves and sure enough, decent cross, goal. No way was Hart to blame.

There is no way he is our first choice keeper, both Heaton and Pope would have picked their second goal out of the air on the cross. He aint for us, Linderegard looked far better. Play Heats in every game until Pope is back, including Burton. Drop Lennon and Hendrick also.

He has 45 competitive England caps, losing just 3. He has saved penalties from the world’s best (Messi, Ibrahimovich and now Pogba). He has multiple Premier League titles and Golden Glove awards.

Our other two keepers are great, but Hart has more talent, more confidence (other than his recent dip), more experience and (probably) more work ethic. I only say the last one because the top players do seem to, and he wouldn’t have survived at City that long otherwise.

We have improved by signing him.

Agree re the first goal. Any ball into the 6 yard box within the confines of the posts is keeper's territory.

Apart from that, virtually faultless.

I don't think he is currently our best keeper but Dyche thankfully is our manager and not me. I thought his display against Fulham was comically poor and his world cup performance and his form with West Ham. Having said that, I saw he'd saved a lot today and all the best with his career as Claret.

In fairness our defence won't face strikers of Lukaku's standing every week, but Sean needs to make a decision over the break, and pick one of Hart/Heaton and give them a run, this constant chopping and changing isn't helping the CB'S,who are already low on confidence/form,on balance i'd give Heaton the nod he reassures the back line more than Joe,Hart is a decent shot-stopper as shown by the one-on-one save and the penalty, but he doesn't have a commanding presence in his 6 yard box.

If you drop Lennon and Hendrick who replaces them, just play Jeff in his best position, like on Thursday and he will show his worth.

Tom inspires and leads the defence , you can hear him yelling at them , pushing them out and on . Tom is a leader and gives confidence to the defenders . He deserves better . He has given his all for the clarets. He commands the box.
Hart is none of the above. A decent shot stopper is all .

All that stuff's in the past, though. He's been poor for years and his career's been on a steady decline. Winning the Prem a few years ago doesn't make him a better keeper than Heaton in 2018

How he's jumped straight above Heaton is just wrong. It should be Hart doing the challenging, not Heaton.

Not sure he did owt wrong today.

Yes, he could do better at commanding his area but his saves were top class, especially the two one on ones with Lukaku.

The reason our defence is currently awful is that our two amazing centre halves are playing a bit below themselves (in Tarks case) and like someone who desperately out of form (in Mees case)

It would have been at least two nil with any of our keepers in today.

For Joe to keep it down to two was inspired.

Re: Word for Joe Hart

Did well today but we do concede too many goals when he plays (in general) due to the above issues

Would play Long or Gibson with Tarkowski next game as think Mee is out of form.

Also think Heaton should be given a run as he did well against olympiakos, tough on Hart but I think he’s the better keeper all round.

Pope is our best keeper and stats backed him up last season....
