If that was the case, why has this thread emerged, maybe we've all got different ideas of what a minutes silence should comprise of, if it's babies or people unable to suppress a cough ect are excusable, from the sounds of it it was anything but a perfect uninterrupted minutes silence if you can't bypass a plane & images of 2 fingered salutes, let's agree to disagree on this one please.Lancasterclaret wrote:United fans very good during it to be fair.
Like us though, their best days are behind them so that probably accounts for it!

You couldn't hear anything out of the ordinary from the JHU middle.
Everyone around us saying it was well observed.
I can only say what I heard so please don't take offence

Are you saying that all planes should have been grounded?Jakubclaret wrote:https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moment_of_silence
I'll help some posters out, basically that's what's supposed to happen, babies crying or people unable to suppress a cough ect are unavoidable, distant hums of planes & some people gesturing 2 fingered salutes during the silence doesn't really fit in.

No offense whatsoever, you come across as a person who did observe & respect the silence perfectly & can only say what you witnessed & heard, across the 4 corners & in between though that clearly wasn't the case. I don't wish to comment any further regarding what happened I've said enough now, I would have preferred in some ways to stop at home & observe the silence by myself.Lancasterclaret wrote:You couldn't hear anything out of the ordinary from the JHU middle.

From the refs whistle it only lasted 45 seconds.

seriously gazza, get a grip. The plane was organised long in advance and utd fans were perfect during the silence. Have you nothing else to worry about.gazza53 wrote:Flying a plane over the turf while a minute's silence is taking place is a absolute disgrace, if this had been a memorial for Munich or a man utd legend just think about the fall out and how disrespectful that would be portrayed

Re: Disgraceful insult to Jimmy mc
Said I wouldn't comment again, but can't let this 1 go, how do people know for sure that this plane was booked yonks ago? & IF that being the case why only recently with the Brighton defeat & spurs defeat has this Woodward bloke issue been magnified to such a degree that it's been compelled for a airborne craft circling the skies around TM, with peoples so called certainty when the plane was booked I'm suspicious that people on this forum are perhaps somehow behind the booking.

It was in the press a few weeks ago that United fans would be doing this.
Who knows when it was actually booked ? I doubt it was “yonks” ago as I think it’s a protest against the summer transfer dealings and failing to land targets.
If we want a realist conspiracy theory as to who booked it then the finger is pointing firmly towards some slimy little Portuguese bloke who you see on the telly a lot

I don't hold much respect for the average Utd fan but from my seat, in the BL stand close to CF stand, the minute silence seemed to be very well observed, including the visitors. The fly over, during that period, seemed to be higher and further away than the previous laps

Re: Disgraceful insult to Jimmy mc
I didn’t really want o have to defend Utd fans but I feel I have to. I am approx 10 seats away from away fans in CFS in the middle, and I heard a couple of people being told to sush in the away end - if anything I heard more clarets moaning about the shushing than the away fans. Like I said before, I could hear the plane, but it did not in anyway spoil the moment at all.

Laughable offence-finding over nothing. Can't comment for anyone else but from our seat it was one of the best observed silences I've seen at our ground - by all fans.

I don't know what the Cricket Field tannoy was like, but the Bob Lord tannoy at the Cricket Field end wasn't working, so it took quite a while for the Man U fans to settle down and shut up during the intro. But once they grasped what was going on, I had no complaints.
As for the plane, you couldn't hear it on MotD during the silence, but you could hear it immediately after kick-off. For what that's worth. In any case, I think fussing about a man (or woman) over a mile from the ground as the falcon stoops, not turning his or her engine off, is a bit petty.

Slightly off topic but why fly over Turf Moor, and not the next game at Old Trafford.
