Disgraceful insult to Jimmy mc
Disgraceful insult to Jimmy mc
Flying a plane over the turf while a minute's silence is taking place is a absolute disgrace, if this had been a memorial for Munich or a man utd legend just think about the fall out and how disrespectful that would be portrayed

Fair point but how many people outside of Burnley will have even known this was happening?

Well, no, it's not irrelevant is it? They would have booked the plane in advance without knowledge of what was taking place at the Turf.Stayingup wrote:What? Totally irrelevant. Stupid question.

I didn’t notice it during the silence but United fans in the stadium observed it impeccably from where I sat.
It should of course be a given, but it only takes one nobhead to ruin something like that, so appreciation to Utd fans.

Re: Disgraceful insult to Jimmy mc
Whichever way you want to look at it, I found it very disrespectful in what meant to be a sombre moment of reflection, the last thing you'd expect to hear or see is a plane circling about in the sky delivering a ed Woodward message, I understand there are issues with them regarding this fella FFS there's a time & place & trying to pay your respects & honour a legends memory doesn't quite dovetail.

Re: Disgraceful insult to Jimmy mc
It was booked weeks ago and probably needed special permissions to fly over the ground. I’d be surprised if the pilot had time to look down at the pitch.
Ironically I’ve been thanking United fans on facebook for the immaculate silence during the tribute to Jimmy.

The plane was peripheral noise at the very worst. I’d say arguing and point scoring about ithis on a thread titled with Jimmy’s name is equally disrespectful.

Re: Disgraceful insult to Jimmy mc
No point scoring. It was just plain disrespectful and totally unnecessary. Grief is private and all we wanted was a private 60 seconds in which to reflect. Not a lot to ask for; well at least you'd think it wasn't.

Absolutely agree, and to add more I thought the UTD fans that were keeping their house in order by shushing those being vocal in the silence was commendable.

From row Z in the middle of the CFS I thought the minute silence was impeccably respected by all fans bar a couple of people mumbling (and they were promptly shushed). I could hear the plane in the distance and didn’t think it affected the moment at all.

Re: Disgraceful insult to Jimmy mc
True, you can actually book a plane anyway (wasn’t a 747) without that much notice if the moneys there, & we don’t know for sure how long ago it was actually booked, it’s only until recently in the light of the Brighton & spurs results that this issue has arose with any meaningful strength against this Woodward fella which would suggest it’s been booked recently, anyhow as you have said it could have postponed its bloody insensitive at the minimum. It’s been done for maximum exposure as another poster has alluded to without a thought about jimmy & the feelings of the supporters. The 2 things just simply don’t go together.RingoMcCartney wrote:So between them booking it yonks ago, and the passing of Jimmy Mac's passing, they had of time to think, "actually lads, it's not appropriate. Very good, I am disrespectful for expecting a minute's silence for a club legend, I can only hope that there are more people that think like I do "it is not ok to gatecrash a tribute in such a way"RocketLawnChair wrote:The plane was peripheral noise at the very worst. I Watched the game on a stream from sports net
During the minutes silence quite a few Utd fans were giving a middle finger salute to the air. I was fuming thinking they were doing this directly because of Jimmy Mac but it was probably aimed at the plane.

I'll help some posters out, basically that's what's supposed to happen, babies crying or people unable to suppress a cough ect are unavoidable, distant hums of planes & some people gesturing 2 fingered salutes during the silence doesn't really fit in.
