As soon as I saw someone had started a thread I aasumed you had mounted some kind of recovery.

Yorkshire spiralling towards div 2 with at least a couple of years rebuilding and picking apart recent damage to be done.

I thought Taunton was generally renown for wickets favouring batting - obviously not today! Somerset 99-7 now.

Nil batting points for Lancs but 3 bowling points already and could well be another to come (+ still in with a shout of a win if we can take these last 3 wickets quickly and bat better 2nd time round)
No bowling points for Hants is good + Notts look like they'll run up a good score v Yorks. I think relegation could be decided by a point or two so every bonus points counts.

Usually you’d say it was a poor wicket but with Lancashire’s batting it’s probably quite decent.

Tail enders being troublesome,Somerset now leading by nearly 80,in the context of this game that's a lot.

Surrey are going to wrap up the title soon, there piling up the runs again,Burns and Pope will be a big miss for them next year assuming they are on England duties.

I haven't seen the wicket or conditions but why would a captain win the toss and bat first at 10.30am on September 4th with the worst batting line up in the division?

Could Somerset face a points deduction :?:

'Pitch is verging on poor'

Lancashire's cricket director Paul Allott wasn't particularly complimentary about Somerset's pitch after the first day.

"To be honest, the pitch is below average and verging on poor in my view," he told BBC Radio Lancashire.

"It looks like a fifth-day Test match pitch - it's warm, it's pitted, and there are some areas in that are obviously hugely conducive for spin bowling.

"It's disappointing to come all the way down to Taunton and be confronted with those conditions in such an important game."

Sounds like they prepared a surface ready-made for Leach no wonder they opted to bowl first.

It's just home advantage.

But as Lancashire are classed as a team full of spinners it's not something we should complain about.

Allott and Chapple out.

No it still doesn't excuse that abysmal display again, even on good pitches when batting first Lancashire have collapsed, the whole coaching set-up need overhauling whether Lancashire stay up or not.

Slight recovery now 55-4,Somerset may still have to bat again.

Paul Allott is a knob. I remember him playing as sub-pro for Todmorden and acting like a right prick.

We were discussing Allott in the 110 club pre match on Sunday. The above sums up the thoughts expressed. On another note the BBC SPORT website shows that Lancs won the toss and elected to bat! Good game to win now.

141-8 lead of 48 don't think it'll be enough even on this pitch,Croft and Livingstone played nicely but one needed to go big.

I dont know whether Paul Allott is a p**** or not but it's difficult to disagree with his assertion that the pitch isn't up to much.
Somerset 12-3 now chasing 78 to win; 33 wickets gone down just over 4 sessions. Revolving door in the pavilion.

Struggling to find a record for the lowest number of runs scored in a county championship match. I wonder how close this will be?

487 so far.

I wonder how many times a team has scored just 99 in the first innings and won?

Good question, FC.
Now 34/5.

Been a Maharaj/Onion combination so far.
Sure there's a tasty funny there somewhere, but I'll pass in place of an unlikely win.

Could be a very important 8 points for the tie (& 4 bonus points for the first innings bowling).
Hants, Yorks, Worcs now 12-20 points behind & Worcs playing Hants at the mo so can't both get big points (unless another tie!))

Yorks doing well at 211-3 but Notts got 448 1st innings so it could be tough to get a win there for the Yorkies

Roses match starting Monday an even bigger game than usual.
The 3 below us have a game in hand to play 14th Sept but the last round 18th Sept sees Hants v Lancs & Worcs v Yorks

All to play for still. I'll have to get myself down the Ageas for that with my red rose.

This is probably why you've never seen it before

I believe that's the first tie in the County Championship since Essex drew with Warwickshire in 2003.

Lancashire's last tie was in 1952, and Somerset's was in 1939. Yep, you've just witnessed something rather mind-blowing!

Better result for Lancashire every point is invaluable for us. even on that minefield i thought Somerset would chased 70 odd.
