Sports Personality of the year
Harry Kane is 6/4 clear favorite to win it.
Jimmy Anderson is 80-1 and this weekend could become the leading fast paced bowler test wicket taker of all time. Surely that's a better achievement than scoring a few penalties? Seems a big price to me.

Re: Sports Personality of the year
JImmy will have to have one hell of a match to become the leading wicket taker of all time!
He has a chance of becoming the leading wicket taker for a fast bowler which is still a fantastic achievement and like you say, more worthy of an award than taking a few penalties.

Re: Sports Personality of the year
Why would anybody vote for Harry Kane?
Re: Sports Personality of the year
Not watched it or voted ever since 2012/3 when that cyclist fella beat Jess Ennis to the title.

Because he won the golden boot as England finished 4th in the world cup. To some, that is the greatest sporting achievement of the year.tybfc wrote:Why would anybody vote for Harry Kane?

Why do you think Jess Ennis would have been a worthier winner than Wiggins? Remember, the jiffy-bag, inhaler stuff about Wiggins was not known at the time.CJW wrote:Not watched it or voted ever since 2012/3 when that cyclist fella beat Jess Ennis to the title.

I can't imagine why anyone would vote for the bloke who captained England to their best finish for 28 years in the biggest sporting event in the world while also winning the golden boot in the same event.tybfc wrote:Why would anybody vote for Harry Kane?

But we won nothing and 3 of his 6 goals were penalties.Tall Paul wrote:I can't imagine why anyone would vote for the bloke who captained England to their best finish for 28 years in the biggest sporting event in the world while also winning the golden boot in the same event.
Hardly set the world alight and didn't score after we played against Tunisia, Panama and Colombia.

You asked why anyone would vote for him. You might not agree with them, but the reasons why are obvious.tybfc wrote:But we won nothing and 3 of his 6 goals were penalties.

And he doesn't really have that much of a personality!

That isn’t the intended definition of the word ‘personality’ in this context.Dougall wrote:And he doesn't really have that much of a personality!

Strange there's been no mention of Raheem Sterling

Re: Sports Personality of the year
What are people's opinion of what the award actually is?
Some obviously say 'Sporting Achievement of the Year' though I personally would say it is an award given for bringing sport into people's lives more than any other. eg. when Anthony Joshua gets the country interested in boxing, Jimmy Anderson getting people interested in cricket or Harry Kane having the country fixed on football.. So, yeah although there may be Sports personalities more worthy of the title, Harry Kane will win it - but not unwarranted.

Re: Sports Personality of the year
I'm guessing this award has to go to someone British otherwise that young runner from Norway(?) would win it hands down. I suppose it demonstrates our standing in world sport when it goes to a centre forward who scored a few goals (half of them penalties) against some of the world's football minnows. If the number of sides competing is increased to 48 for the next world cup we'll never get the trophy off him.

I’m amazed some on here haven’t constructed an argument to give it to Ben Mee or Sam Vokes..

Ben Mee would get it if he could play next to Ben Mee.RocketLawnChair wrote:I’m amazed some on here haven’t constructed an argument to give it to Ben Mee or Sam Vokes..
