Perhaps the toughest job in cricket. A wicket taking fast bowler. Tougher than scoring penalties against minnows.

Let’s tidy this up a bit, as some appear to be getting a bit confused.

The problem begins when joey starts being terribly amusing in post 23 by mentioning the Emirates... this is an oblique reference to Jimmy Anderson being an Arsenal supporter..
( yeah course he is..)

The nonsense continues from there.

Jimmy Anderson at some point will get some wonderful recognition from the town of Burnley
... as he should.

Not yet though, he is still playing Test cricket and he will be a top flight player for a while yet..
Glenn McGrath reckons he is in good enough shape to keep going for a while yet.

Gotta get the timing right, and some thought needs to go into this future ‘project’.

Excellent day today, it was only £20 entry too (£5 for kids) - choice of seats.
I dont think we bowled particularly well and Root seemed to make some odd choices- Jimmy & Broad not bowling beyond the first 5 or so overs each today until almost 70 overs had gone and India had a very established pair.
As per Quickenthetempo's comment- no idea why Root persisted with Stokes bowling short pitchers at established batsmen at that stage on that wicket; it almost seemed like he tried to "make a game of it".
Still- all's well that ends well (and it was a grand ending for Jimmy supporters at that).

Broad has a broken rib by all accounts. Got hit while batting and made worse in the changing room.

Ahh. I saw Broad went off for some treatment for a while but just assumed sore foot or something. I can, though, recall him being hit high up on the side when batting and shrugging it off at the time, I guess that caught up with him eventually.

Outstanding really. Must take some preparation to be a fast bowler for that amount of tests and keep up the high standards.

How this man hasn't got recognition from this town is beyond belief.

The greatest ever sportsman to come from the area, he deserves a statue at the very least IMO.

A fantastic achievement Jimmy.to be at the top of your game for so many years and recognised as a master of your art by colleagues and opponents alike.
Every time Jimmy plays Burnley always gets a mention and like our football club puts our little old town on the map.
Makes me proud to live in the same town that Jimmy was brought up in and played cricket for. He is still a Burnley lad despite all his successes

Some funny old comments on here. Perhaps I'm an old f**t who has been gone from lancashire for too long, but to say that no one cared about lancashire league, never mind county cricket when I was a kid would have been bizarre. Down here in Zomerset, cricket is far from a minority sport. And then there is India, Australia etc - come out with those views in a pub in Perth and you'd get a response.

It's not just the stats, when Alistair Cook says that Jimmy is the best cricket ever to be produced by this country you have to sit up and be very, very proud. He is a reason why lots of people have some idea of where Burnley is. I'll be cheering him to his 600th test wicket

Couldn't agree more - brilliant to see Lowerhouse getting behind some recognition too, this really is about the town giving him the recognition he deserved. I remember the hairs standing up on the back of my neck when he got five wickets in his first test innings. Yesterday, when he took that final wicket, I was on my feet punching the air. Unbelievable achievement.

It was interesting to hear the West Indian great Michael Holding eulogise about Jimmy.
He was equally impressed with the amount of Tests Anderson has played, he inferred that those with little interest in the game almost expect it normal that a bowler can keep delivering line and length and moving it both ways. The dedication and relentless practice to be able to execute his skills over such a long period is what sets this landmark achievement apart.
It was entirely appropriate that Cook and Anderson celebrated their milestones together. Those two are both ultimate professionals with tremendous discipline, perfect role models for aspiring sportsmen and women.
I get that cricket is not for everyone but anyone with a passing interest in sport should surely relate to jimmy’s achievement and be proud as punch of his Burnley roots; for sure there should be a busst for Jimmy. Would be great on the corner of belvedere road / harry potts way, outside his old cricket club where visiting sports folk can pay their respects on foot rather than a drive-by.

Yes he's one of our own but Jimmy is held in great affection by cricket fans all over the country, especially at the Test Match playing venues.

This was all too evident yesterday down the Kia Oval, they love him at Lords [no surprise that, with all the wickets he has taken there] Old Trafford, and Edgbaston, and the rest.

What a role model he is for younger cricketer's as well - almost perfect in that regard...family man, keeps out of trouble.

Spot on comments Hampstead.
I know a lot of people with no connection to Burnley who are into cricket and they all have great affection for Jimmy and how he has performed for England over the years.
He's shown great application (as well as talent/athleticism obviously) and had a huge input into England's cause over the years (unfortunately meaning Lancs miss his services). He's a "nice family man" off the pitch too- though obviously a bit grumpy/aggressive on it (as needs be for what he does out there).

Even that Yorkshireman Goughy said that Jimmy was the best new ball bowler of all time anywhere in the World ...that is quite some accolade when you think of those great fast bowlers Akram and Younis.
