Yorks v Lancs

Post by tybfc » Sun Sep 09, 2018 10:52 pm

Two Championship games left for Lancs and the penultimate one starts at Headingley tomorrow and they realistically have to win them both to stay in division one.

So myself and Flixtonclaret are off to dirty Leeds at 8am to support the Red Rose and hope for a positive result against the failures of the recent English team in Lyth, Ballance and Bresnan.

The members of Yorkshire love us following recent meetings so it should be good fun. Not!

Into their "Long Room" at 11am.

What could go wrong?

Yorkshire still have to play Hampshire, as do we. Our batsmen simply must start supporting our excellent bowlers!

Well done ty & Flixton. If I lived up north still, Id be there too.
As it passes, I'm in Hampshire & I can take the baton off you for the last round of games 24th Sept for Hants v Lancs down the Ageas Bowl. Hopefully we're still in with a chance of survival then. Worcester play Yorks in that same round so it could all go down to last day nail-biters.

A real good cricket day in prospect tomorrow with the state of day 4 in the test match as well as the county games starting.

Absolutely right.

I just hope that they concentrate on this game and not on Saturday's finals T20s day in their heads.

Yorkshire won't have that problem having been rubbish at everything.

If by chance we beat Yorkshire we are daft enough to probably come down to Hants for the last game if we are still in with a shout of staying up.

177 for 8.
If Lancashire get the last two wickets quickly Yorkshire could be batting again tonight.

209 all out shame Lancs let it slip from 144-7,important batting bat point for the hosts.

Now can the batters finally show some ability,Kohler-Cadmore has shown you can score runs on this pitch.

That's a great first day for Lancs. Without seeing the pitch, it seemed a brave (foolhardy I thought maybe) decision to put opposition in but it's worked out very well. Full 3 bowling points to us and only 1 batting point for Yorkies; a decent chance of 3/4 batting points tomorrow - though shouldnt get too ahead of ourselves.
Looks like there'l be a result in the Hants v Somerset game though (106 AO for Somerset, 142-9 Hants after 1 day); hope Somerset can do better 2nd innings & put some pressure on Hants.

Well a fun day out in Yorkshire.

Northern Fail's 8.14am train from Accrington to Leeds arrived at 8.43am due to a member of staff being late.

I ascertained that it was the driver who was late because the train to get him to Preston had been delayed.

So half an hour late into Dirty Leeds by which time we had won the toss and thankfully decided to bowl in very overcast conditions.

Myself and Flixtonclaret and several other Lancs supporters were in the Members Long Room at Headingley.

It isn't very long.

Guinness, G&T's and red wine were all £5 per pint / glass.

The locals didn't like us but we didn't care.

Well done to Lancs bowlers and for once the opening batsmen who may get some time at the crease on Tuesday although weather may have it's say.

Back there on Wednesday and if needs be Thursday and then good luck to the white ball boys in the T20 finals day on Saturday in Birmingham.

Well done to the ex England batters Lyth, Unballanced and Bresnan. You did your county proud today.

Congratulations to Alastair Cook. Brilliant.

Looks like rain overnight and maybe up to 7-9 am Tuesday in Leeds but probably dull/fine thereafter. Could be very tricky batting in the morning, hopefully we wont lose too many and crack on in the afternoon. Wednesday & Thursday look brighter so there's every chance of a result one way or t'other- hopefully for the red rose.
I'll be following events in Leeds from the Oval where I'm hoping England can wrap things up by early afternoon.

221-9 fine innings by Davies but not much support from the middle order, hope we can stretch this slim lead and then get some early wickets, wouldn't fancy chasing too many batting 4th.

Some late runs by Maharaj gets us to 252 and a lead of 43.
Some early wickets needed now.

Could be a handy last wicket stand of 31 with Maharaj hitting 38 from 26 balls including 3 sixes and 3 fours. A lead of 43 could be critical, depending on how well we bowl!

Hampshire won today so unlikely we can finish above them. Looks like two from Worcs, Yorks, Lancs for the drop now.
We have to win this roses match to be in with a decent chance of staying up but we'll need some very early wickets tomorrow or I'm afraid we'll be in Division 2 in 2019.

I'm meeting my Dad there tomorrow. Think we need some early wickets, wouldn't fancy us to chase 200 under pressure the way we've batted this summer.

Being optimistic from a Lancashire viewpoint, the morning session has brought wickets in this match, afternoon and the evening session seems to favour batting,we do need to break this partnership quickly tomorrow and see how the new batsman fares,

Tough call. Getable but in the circumstances (very important points to win for avoiding relegation; 4th innings of low scoring game) it'll take a lot of concentration/bottle to get there.
Good luck red roses.
