Bottom

Post by cricketfieldclarets » Wed Sep 12, 2018 9:54 pm

Havent watched this in years. But just found out its on netflix.

Just watched series 1 episode 1 and 2. I forgot how seriously politically incorrect it was. Like most stuff of the time I guess. And its definitely aged. But still as funny as ever.

Anyone else a fan?

Yes. I'm old enough to remember it when it was first shown. Very very funny, particularly the cartoon style violence. I still have the first two 'Live' shows on VHS that were Christmas presents from memory! Those and the regular episodes are still shown on 'GOLD' on the SKY platform quite a bit.

My favourite episodes are the one where they're playing chess and the one where they think they've killed the gasman! :D

My late son loved this, it got him through really bad times during chemo. He never cried but one night at the Christie I caught him crying with laughter watching it.i never really got it when I was his age but I’ve warmed to it in recent years.

Bottoms good, but most episodes of Filthy, Rich and Catflap are free on YouTube.

Far better.

"Gas" was one of the finest 30 minutes on TV ever. I remember being in tears of laughter.

It's funny, they say that television encourages violence, well I'm smashing his face in and we haven't got one.

Filthy Rich and Cat flap was excellent. I also loved The Comic Strip presents Mr Jolly lives next door. Peter Cook, Nicholas Parsons, exploding tonic water and Dreamy Time escorts.

Brilliant programme. The one where they looked after the shop was hillarious.

Rik Mayall was amazing wasn’t he. There’s the episode when they are playing chess and Mayall doesn’t stop... just pinging from one thing to the next like someone with ADHD. Brilliant performance.

The cartoon violence is pure art

When Eddie and Richie go to the sex shop then later on try pulling the two women in the pub who are lesbians. Richie says to em come back to our place and I'll cure you.

They still show it on UK Gold now and again, always try and catch it if I'm in. Some of Eddie's one liners when he misunderstands Richie are genius! The chess fight scene is another that never fails to make me laugh.
Some great comedy on the BBC in the 90s. Bottom, Harry Enfield, Men Behaving Badly to name but a few. So sad when the best they can do these days is rubbish like Mrs Brown's Boys and Citizen Khan.

Political correctness put an end to comedy.

Would bottom be aired now on BBC? Not a chance.

Yeah no chance, Harry Enfield probably wouldn't get away with sketches like The Scousers either. Too many people looking for things to be offended about.
