Privatisation in a nutshell?
Good at making money, but at what cost?

Re: Privatisation in a nutshell?
Absolute pi$$takers. Not au fait with this area of the law but it sounds illegal. How can your wallet with your ID and your money be subject to a lost property policy? I'm fairly certain if I find a wallet I'm legally obliged to hand it in, not keep it.

Aye, and they said that privatisation would improve customer service. What a load of old bull and robdogs too. Now where's my dividend?

Whereas if it was public sector, his wallet and it's contents would now belong to the state

I reckon so too. In any case, it's morally reprehensible.Spiral wrote:Absolute pi$$takers. Not au fait with this area of the law but it sounds illegal.
Re: Privatisation in a nutshell?
Odd, that, because I'm fairly sure that when I lost my bag in school I wasn't charged an admin fee to reclaim it. Nor did the state presume to claim it as its property.Damo wrote:Whereas if it was public sector, his wallet and it's contents would now belong to the state
Re: Privatisation in a nutshell?
I'm guessing the contents of your school bag wasn't worth the ransom

Really? I'd love to see you back that up, but of course, you can't? BR would have been torn to pieces by the tabloids if they had tried something like this. BTW: I'm not saying BR was perfect, far from it, however, it was far better than what we have today. The current model screws the users and the taxpayers too.Damo wrote:Whereas if it was public sector, his wallet and it's contents would now belong to the state

No such offence, but if you keep something that you find without making reasonable efforts to find its owner then you are guilty of theft.john'sroseyspecs wrote:Theft by finding?

Damo is dogmatically ideological when it comes to this, no doubt borne of a lifetime of tabloid news consumption. You'd probably have greater success explaining the concept of natural monopoly to your toilet brush.Billy Balfour wrote:Really? I'd love to see you back that up, but of course, you can't? I agree. I usually ignore his 'comments', but this time I couldn't let such utter bellendery pass me by.Spiral wrote:You'd probably have greater success explaining the concept of natural monopoly to your toilet brush.
Re: Privatisation in a nutshell?
After getting busted, publicly, yeah. Less damaging to give him his wallet back and...you know...comply with (I presume?) the law of the land than see their brand tarnished. Back in the olden days without social media the poor c.unt probably would have needed to go through the courts, which is obviously more expensive than the tenner reclamation fee. Post hoc change of policy doesn't change the fact they're pi$$takers.piston broke wrote:Change of policy and repaid.
Re: Privatisation in a nutshell?
We still have state-run railways, but it’s other countries state railways that run ours. Every journey we make on those lines subsidises the rail users in those countries. For people like Damo the concept of taking back control doesn’t extend to our railways.
Re: Privatisation in a nutshell?
Honestly don't care who runs them, so long as they run. Honestly don't care if Germans make a bit of profit on it, so long as they run properly. The argument for un-f.ucking utterly f.ucked essential public services isn't repatriation for repatriation's sake, it's that those essential services are utterly f.ucked and need un-f.ucking by whatever means.

This chart is privatisation In a nutshell. May not be perfect, but the best thing that happened to UK railways in my lifetime. There is simply no comparison in the quality of passenger experience now vs the catastrophe that was British Rail.

That was great last time. Thank goodness the workers in those industries didn't abuse their position.bfcjg wrote:Labour looking to reintroduce clause 4 ie the re-nationalisation of utilities etc. I like that.

In what way does that graph support your opinion? For that graph to support your opinion then there can't be any other possible explanation for why rail usage decreased during a boom for another transport industry (cars).
Also, why the hell are we subsidising the rail industry more now than when it was nationalised? No wonder things seem better while privatised if they're taking even more taxpayer money than when it was state-owned.

Re: Privatisation in a nutshell?
There’s nothing in that chart describing satisfaction. Or fares which are the highest in Europe. I suspect service levels won’t be at their highest levels right now with the recent fiascos. But yeah, other than that privatisation has gone well.

How does that chart back up your argument? You might as well post a picture of a banana.
