Are we down?
Re: Are we down?
Of course we're not down.
But we're in trouble, close to serious trouble given our first five performances
where, apart from the first half at Southampton and a spell against Watford
we've not even looked like competing never mind scoring or winning a game.
We've got Hart to thank for keeping the goal difference down but that's just about it
apart from looking forward to Defour and Brady, possibly Vydras getting back into the team
and making a difference.
We will still, more than likely be in trouble by Xmas but hopefully not too far behind.
Whether we can make two or three signings in the January window to keep us competitive
and in with a good chance of staying out of the bottom three will be key, me thinks.

Re: Are we down?
Are we fuk as down its only mid September.. The way we are shaping at the moment though I honestly can't see were the next point will come from.
Dyche has been brilliant for this football club, but i have always said, once the results don't come the fickle worms will turn and they have already started. I understand why to. We have had an incredible 3 years but on the whole the quality of football has been poor and that is the reason why Dyche will never get or be given the opportunity to manage a top half Premier league club

Nice twist - but not done correctly. Any normal person would know that. That's why you never spotted it.dsr wrote:Why would you design a poll and deliberately exclude normal people from answering? A poll answered only by abnormal people would have limited merit.

Re: Are we down?
Nobody has ever been relegated in September. The shape of your season is often dictated by the way you start the season, and ours has been very poor. It is difficult to say where the next point will come from - Bournemouth is going to be a difficult game. I hope we can kick start our season in this game, as a good win would do us the world of good and give us a real chance of taking points against Cardiff and Huddersfield. If we come through the next three with no wins then it's going to take a hell of a run to catch up. Worrying.

You have to give the team, as bad as it is , until the end of October before asking this question. By then the league will have settled down and we will have a better idea.of our finishing position. One thing though Burnley won't finish seventh.

Teams rarely finish more than +-1 from where they were after 10 games. If we are bottom then.... then probably.
Re: Are we down?
I'm down in the dumps after watching that. What has happened to the levels of commitment, desire and hard work?
In the past our competitiveness kept us in games and we worked hard until the end. My mate texted late on saying we'd given up. How easily were players out muscled? It was a weak performance, something is not quite right at the moment.

Everton are in tenth place on 6 points....half of the PL table are within 5 points of us.
We must grab some points from the next three games though.

Re: Are we down?
A serious and rapid upturn in results is required. The worrying thing is that we aren’t playing well, so it’s not a case of being unlucky.
We are not causing teams problems. We are not proving anything for our forwards to feed on, and are far too slow to break from our own half.
I suspect we really blew it over the summer in terms of whoever our true targets were, and will have to pay over the odds in January as a result. Hopefully we have 15-20 points by that point to still give us a chance.
I’m normally pretty positive at this stage of the season, but right now it doesn’t look good.

I wouldn't hold out much hope next weekend. Bournemouth have way too much pace than we can cope with. Playing like we did yesterday I can see us getting beat by 3 or 4.hampsteadclaret wrote:Everton are in tenth place on 6 points....half of the PL table are within 5 points of us.

Haha nice to see this has been bumped. Play like that going forwards and most importantly defensively and we will be just fine. Certainly 3 worse teams than us.

Re: Are we down?
I believe there are 3 worse teams than us. I think we will be mid table but that doesn’t take away from the fact that we need to consider seeking investment and an improvement on our recruitment system if we have any ambition of stay in the top 30 team in English Football

Given there was 13 teams worse than us earlier this year you must be Sherlock Holmes to believe there are 3 worse.

You really need to move into this season. Last season is finished. We overachieved, we get it. Now let’s look to the futureHibsclaret wrote:Given there was 13 teams worse than us earlier this year you must be Sherlock Holmes to believe there are 3 worse.

Re: Are we down?
Just as a check, last year the "big 7" at the top finished in the top 7 places, and only Liverpool moved more than 1 place. But of the other 13, only Newcastle and Swansea stayed within 1 place, and as Swansea moved from 17th to 18th it was still a "big" movement; and the other 11 moved more than 1 place. Including the then bottom 3, who finished 8th, 12th and 13th.IAmAClaret wrote:Teams rarely finish more than +-1 from where they were after 10 games. If we are bottom then.... then probably.

Re: Are we down?
I think if we beat Huddersfield we'll stay up fairly comfortably. But even if we don't the Cardiff game showed that we are capable of getting a few good results this season.

Off the top of my head, there are around 18 games this season that we can class as "winnable" so we need to win half of these and pick up a few points here and there from the tougher ones (which we will)

Re: Are we down?
18 Winnable games? I'd say there are definitely 26 winnable games and that is if you believe we will definitely be beaten or draw both home and away against the "big 6", which I don't as I fancy our chances against anyone, especially at the Turf.Ric_C wrote:Off the top of my head, there are around 18 games this season that we can class as "winnable" so we need to win half of these and pick up a few points here and there from the tougher ones (which we will)
Re: Are we down?
Yeah I’ve probably been a bit conservative with 18. I’ve taken away games such as Leicester away for example as we usually struggle there
Re: Are we down?
Alternatively, we've won 2 games in row, with a good chance of a third win. Do that three times in a season and you've got your required number of wins when you chuck the odd win here and there.

Re: Are we down?
I thought at the start of last season that 38 points would be enough to stay up. So 10 wins, 8 draws and 20 defeats. A win against Huddersfield (not a given I admit) would be 3 wins in less than a quarter of the season.
Re: Are we down?
Put it this way. We have 13 home games against teams outside the big 6 - if we win half, that's 7 wins. We have 13 similar away games - if we win a quarter, that's 3 wins. 30 points so far - then we pick up a few draws, and a few points against the big 6, and hey presto - safety.
So far, we've got 1 win in 2 of the home games, and 1 win in 4 away games; bang on target. Plus a bonus point v. Southampton. And that's after a poor start.

Re: Are we down?
After today's games already it looks like 3 from 9,admittedly it''s early days but Everton and above have a decent cushion, unless some of them implode which is possible ala Watford last term.
Newcastle throwing a 2 goal lead away, means we still have a 5 point buffer to the drop zone, but standards of a lot of players will have to improve,
Effectively we are in a mini-league of 9,and as long as we pick up a good number of points from our head-to-head encounters with these rivals we'll be fine.
