DMA's fair play...

Post by SmudgetheClaret » Thu Sep 20, 2018 5:41 pm

We older dudes tend to say today's new bands just don't compare but on hearing this tune and the absolute quality of the lead vocals (he does look a bit chavvy mind) I've changed my mind ..Aussie band ;)

My son has seen them several times and I must say they are brilliant. Also their version of Chers believe is way better than the original.

Definitely worth a lesson!

The Cher - Believe cover is brilliant

Personal favourite is So We Know.

Their sound is very 90s imo. Decent but no more than that. Check out his togs when doing Believe, that boy is in need of some styling

On my holidays led by the pool listening to this song https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6k03ubXWVn4" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;, it is a superb feel good song and is a million times better than reading half of that ******** on the transfer thread. Have a listen if you like decent music. Much better than having a row

Another great band that are still relatively unknown are “The Reytons”.

Give them a look up on YouTube/Spotify etc as they’ll no doubt become quite big soon.

Far too much like early Monkeys/Milburn for my liking. I hate bands copying others. It’s been done before and far far better.

Poor mans Milburn was what I thought of them. Lack of good young British bands means that bands like these and Sherlock do well sounding like a carbon copy of the bands they grew up with

So many rubbish getting huge. Blossoms, Catfish etc. Blossoms played to 15,000 at Stockports ground recently :o

It’s hard to be original these days I suppose but at least try a little bit.

I’ve been listening a lot to Bill Ryder Jones recently who I really did!

You ever listened to Deadsons? Some members were in Milburn. Good Cop Bad Cop is also something by the frontman from Milburn too. Both great.

Nope I'll have listen. Shimmer Band were my big hope but they disappeared off face of planet at end of 2017

I'm in to Shotty Horroh at moment who a 30 something rap battler from Manchester whose done a rock album.its a bit marmite as a cross between oasis, early monkeys and Tupac but I think it's well good and so waiting for him to tour the record for n the UK

I can't remember the last time I heard a new band and went "wow!". I think some new music is okay. Most music is just diluted, regurgitated versions of stuff we have heard before but in my opinion, music is pretty stagnant at the minute. Not much seems challenging or well-composed enough to my ear to engage me any more.

Theres loads of great new & newish bands out there atm. Just because they dont get exposure doesn't mean they dont exist.

Get your ar5es out to one of the many local venues and watch some great live acts. It doesn't have to cost a fortune either (the average spread being between £8 - £15 for a ticket)

It all 'sounds the same' because the boundaries of the genre are quite narrow. The 90's bands who created the sound did so during the formative years of a lot of their fans (many on here, I'm sure) and so of course hold a special place in those people's hearts, and younger fans might be a touch nostalgic for a time before they were alive, but change that C major to a C13sus2 over a 15/16 meter, add some synth, sitar, sax and cowbells, play at 140bpm, drop the lyrics about your unfaithful girlfriend, and guess what? You're no longer a rock band, you're a progressive jazz-fusion collective writing a concept album about a spaceman completing the almanacs of an exoplanet on which his ship recently crash landed with a merciful abundance of resources necessary to sustain life; essential, now that the spaceman (an engineer) failed to adequately repair his busted comms systems. Rather than just looking for new bands, expand your genre horizons if you're bored of modern music, because I guarantee there's something amazing out there for you of you're willing to listen.
