Play Wood and Vydra at Burton
Good afternoon everyone,
Just a thought about Tuesday night‘s game at Burton. For me, this is not just a free-hit. We should go relatively strong and really try and take advantage of the fact that it’s an opportunity to get some more confidence built up in certain areas, ahead of two important games against Cardiff and Huddersfield Huddersfield.
Despite Barnes scoring two from the bench, I genuinely believe that the combination that requires the most attention going forward, is that of wood and Vitr huddersfield.
Despite Barnes scoring two from the bench, I genuinely believe that the combination that requires the most attention going forward, is that of Wood and Vydra. Wood desperately needs a goal or two and Vydra would surely benefit from the extra game time.
Hope Heaton, McNeil, Hendrick and Long Get game time, but other than that, I wouldn’t be making too many changes. Definitely a game to take seriously and to work on much-needed areas of the first team.
It’s important that we really build on yesterday and the defeat would set us back a little bit after such a boost in confidence.

Completely agree about the front 2. They have to be our planned starting front men long term so we need to look to develop that

I would go strong at Burton.

I said exactly the same thing yesterday. Make a few changes but keep the momentum going. Vydra could use another 60/70 minutes, Lennon looked like he'd turned a corner and was absolutely flying in the second half as well. By all means give Heaton, Long and McNeil a game but let's go and win the game and put another performance in. Plus it's a competition we can realistically have a decent run in with a bit of luck in the draw.

I wouldn't risk Vydra given he's the only forward who offers something different to the others. But I can understand why people would want him to play and Dyche may well play him.

Agree with the above. Wood will gain some confidence if he can get a couple of goals. Wouldn't tinker too much with the starting XI but give the likes of Heaton, Long and McNeil a run out.

Re: Play Wood and Vydra at Burton
Can see the argument about Wood and Vydra, but on the other hand Vokes and Vydra looked to me to be gelling nicely, and they have all the ingredients to really compliment each other - they look a more natural parthership than any of the other combinations, including Wood and Vydra (because Vokes links better with runners from deeper, as we saw yesterday). Vokes needs a goal as much as Wood, so I'd probably like to see him and Vydra play together again.
You'd expect McNeil to get a start, and we could see Hendrick and Defour paired together in the middle if Defour is fit enough.

It would be great to play with Vokes. He certainly got the best out of Ings and Gray. Very underrated is Sam.claretspice wrote:Can see the argument about Wood and Vydra, but on the other hand Vokes and Vydra looked to me to be gelling nicely, and they have all the ingredients to really compliment each other - they look a more natural parthership than any of the other combinations, including Wood and Vydra (because Vokes links better with runners from deeper, as we saw yesterday). Re: Play Wood and Vydra at Burton
We should start with the same 11. We have only won one game and we need to keep momentum. We have seen what swapping and changing does early on in the season. Also when have we had a good cup run by rotating in the last couple of seasons?
If we are comfortable with an hour gone then I would like to see McNeil, Defour getting a game and then possibly Vydra coming off for Barnes or Wood

I think Vydra needs to start, as he's clearly not quite there yet regarding match fitness.

The League Cup doesn’t have a European place as a reward for winning it any longer...so I’d ever so respectfully suggest that no it isn’t our best chance of European football next season!Hibsclaret wrote:I would go strong at Burton.

So we’re all in agreement then
Re: Play Wood and Vydra at Burton
Vokesy contributed to both the 1st 2 goals yesterday.
Underated is our Sam but he needs to be starting regularly.
In my opinion Wood has started before him, inly because of Wood’s price tag.

Re: Play Wood and Vydra at Burton
i think that Vydra style of play from what I saw yesterday is Vokes, Barnes and Wood in that order
Both Vokes and Barnes style of play suit their back to goal and are better at holding the ball to allow a 2nd striker to link off them.
Wood is better at facing the goal and being a bit of a predator in the box.
Not saying he can't and shouldn't partner up with Wood as that may bring a different dynamic. I am just pleased we have a striker that can do something different and if everyone plays to their best, having Lennon. JBG and Vydra on the pitch will give us something to look forward to when he is fully settled etc.

Pretty sure it does! And would get us straight into the group stage without having to mess about with the qualifiers.BurnleyPaul wrote:The League Cup doesn’t have a European place as a reward for winning it any longer...so I’d ever so respectfully suggest that no it isn’t our best chance of European football next season!

I agree about playing Wood and Vydra at Burton, giving them both game time is good. BUT I don't agree that Wood is a better partner for Vydra than Vokes. I would rest Vokes against Burton.
