BODYGUARD..BBC 1. 9.00 pm

Post by hampsteadclaret » Sun Sep 23, 2018 2:23 pm

So...final episode tonight [6/6]..

I don't watch much TV, but I do like a decent drama series..[Peaky Blinders, Happy Valley]

Anybody else been watching this one?

i think it's been pretty decent...some criticisms that it's not very realistic, and is a bit 'over the top'.

I guess if it was more 'realistic' it wouldn't be much of a drama series.

This series has grabbed a lot of people's attention - what's gonna happen to PS David Budd - will he still be with us at 10.15 pm?

We have in the CH household and can't wait. Just waiting to be left hanging for a series 2...

Who cares if its unrealistic - it's not a documentary - the fact that it has loads of people talking about it and the theories of what is going on makes it brilliant. As they also write line of duty which is back in filming, it's good to see some decent drama on the tv.

I reckon she is alive, I believe that the PM is involved with the guy who took over from her... Long cross and Budd are going to come face to face at somepoint - maybe that is Season 2? Who knows...

An excellent series only criticised because it's on the BBC. Compelling if slightly barmy - particularly tonight's conclusion - if rumour is correct.

The shows creator has already confirmed Julia is dead and apparently it's not the first time he has killed off a major character early on in one of his series.

He despatched the same actress, Keeley Hawes, in Line of Duty

Could be a bit of kidology from him of course but can't see it.

Indeed he did. I'm a big fan of Hawes and he has a habit of killing her off if that is the case. Being spoilt today. On episode 5 of Killing Eve in a bit of a binge. Won't spoil it but I find it has more than the odd nod in the direction of the movie 'Red' and I find it equally funny and disturbing in a good way. Both very well written.

You should always recognise a (previous) KING O' THE NORTH.

Bodyguard has been a bit silly in some parts (re outlandish coincidences etc) - but it's pretty compelling viewing with a good range of characters /good acting + very difficult to guess what will happen next.

It all hinges on his past, hes been pulling the strings from day1. Notice how the bomber in the train toilet in episode 1 was so startled? She knew him. He planned it.
I called it. If I'm proven right Jed Mercurial should stop writing. He's no Brian DePalma.

The other half has the final episode on now. I’ve never seen such ********.

Well, I'll be honest, I never expected *that person* to be behind it.

And a fair bit of it was hard to keep track of. But ultimately, a very good series with some brilliant acting.

I noticed "series 1" was mentioned - could there be a series 2?

One question: What did Chanel actually play in all of this?

I know what you mean. I was texting through bits of most episodes so not sure what Chanel played in it all, and there's other bits that's a bit cloudy.

Chanel was working as an aide to Julia Montague in the first episode - presumably planted there by Akins and the one who alerted him to what Montague was doing.

The bit that didn’t stack up to me was, when the police showed up at Craddock’s house to find her - a senior police office who was not previously under any suspicion, and Budd - a man who was already being pursued by the police having last been seen wearing a suicide vest, waving a gun, how would she have ended up under arrest? Surely they’d have shot him and asked questions later?

Also, why was she so keen to blurt the whole plot Scooby-doo style as soon as she got to the station?

And why would the jihadi bomb-maker woman have tried to kill his kids?

As often with these dramas, brilliant up until the end, but then it just doesn’t hang together. It all seemed a bit rushed to me.

Did we find out who actually got the bomb under the stage and what role did the security service play in it all?

It’s almost like writer panic on the finales

Yeah, I did think - "where's the evidence?" - but I assume that was all on the tablet? Another thing I'm not sure of.

Also - Budd used a radio when he had the bomb attached to him. You don't use any sort of radio or phone as it can mess up with the electrics and cause it to explode. A bit of an error there.

But still - a bit confused by the whole story with holes that need filling.

I think you almost have to be the detective watching it, writing down notes. I remember partly that being explained - just can't remember what the explanation was.

The thing that puzzled me was the panic over the “dead mans switch” and his thumb being taped to it.

Surely if it was taped down then it would never get released even if he was shot??

How was the bomb under the stage detonated?

The police suspected the trigger was pressure on the stage. Was that ever proven or just a possibility? If it was the case, then somebody who knew the bomb was there had to arrange to get somebody on the stage.

It's TV and it's supposed to be entertaining - not a documentary.

*************may contain spoilers*************************************************

Here's my take on a few of the things asked...

If he was shot with DMS then the risk is that it could still go off even if taped - they would not want to risk that.

The police woman said she supplied the criminal with all the plans so he could get around the security in place ahead of her speech.

The terrorist said she supplied the bomb to the criminal so she could get more money to buy more guns and bombs for the cause etc.

The 2 detectives investigating it were clearly wavering on whether he was the culprit following the secret service guy being caught and released.

They also suspected the other police woman as somehow being involved so it is plausible that when the armed police officers turned up- it could be explained that he had found the mole...

Thought it was absolutely brilliant that they showed the hero getting help to improve his mental health/deal with the PTSD. Can't wait for series 2 now... Think they missed a trick with the guy from line of duty not being the one interviewing the police woman at the end though......

Towards the beginning it seemed Sampson had no idea who Aitkens was despite being in charge of the department which seemed to point the finger at her.
Clearly she wasn’t being told by Cradddock.

What i don't get is the fact that the RIPA act would have given more powers to MI5, but it was them who were trying to frame Budd and kill the Home secretary, then in the end it was Budd's boss in the police that did it ?

Badly written

Badly acted

More holes than Swiss cheese

Less believable than Truthbrary

Still good fun to watch and always a plus to see Keeley Hawes feeding the pony

I concur. 1st five episodes were very good, the final episode though was stupid imo.

How many snipers/ marksmen were in attendance when Budd miraculously disarmed the bomb, got out of the vest, jumped over a wall, and vanished into thin air!

Also you'd think a highly skilled forensic team would have the nounce to 1st pick up and dust a framed photograph and then feel that there was something hidden in the frame. All Budd did was pick up the frame, give it a rattle, hey presto

Also the last time we saw the device that contained all the incriminating evidence was when Budd unscrewed his boiler to take a hand gun from the left side and slide the device in the right side of the boiler, yet it was found buried in the garden.

Nowhere near as good as Line Of Duty unfortunately

Good drama, pure hokum kind, and at times beyond ludicrous but still pretty entertaining and some very tense moments. The attempted assassination in the Range Rover was brilliant tv,it played out like something out of the film Heat .Sure it ticked every “ BBC box” with women in the powerful roles lots of colour and men mainly nasty white old school types , hence why 5 live have literally been w@nking each other off all day slavering over it .Thought the guy in the lead was excellent but a 2nd series couldn’t live upto that I dont think .

And Goodnight Sweetheart.

The comedy with Nicholas Lyndhurst. I wasn't wishing you sweet dreams.

I thought bodyguard was really gripping for the first ten minutes then it just got ridiculous. Can you imagine walking a suicide bomber through the streets of London to a safe place? Only to find that safe place was surrounded by houses and iron railings (amazing shrapnel).

Line of Duty (from the same writer and production team) is the best drama series of the past decade, if not longer, and delighted it finally got a wider audience when the last series got promoted to BBC1. I was also disappointed we didn't get a cameo from Ted and Steve at the end of Bodyguard! But good to see the trailer for LoD series 5 after Bodyguard finished - due January I believe.

I reckon iplayer will have all 4 series available before the new one launches so you should be able to catch series 4 then.

As for Bodyguard, 5 and a half gripping, if implausible, episodes. The ending felt a bit of a let down and rushed sadly. The 'reveal' of the jihadist lady was great though - brilliantly acted! That sneer she did....
