Left back
Unfortunately with Ward out of sorts at the minute and Taylor looking a bit hit and miss would Brady be an ideal candidate to play left back?
I know he’s played that position before and he might be a good foil for Lennon overlapping on the left whipping them crosses in.

Yeah. I’ve always thought he could turn from a good left winger to a trippier esc full back with his crossing ability.Right_winger wrote:Unfortunately with Ward out of sorts at the minute and Taylor looking a bit hit and miss would Brady be an ideal candidate to play left back?

Not the worst idea I've heard by a long chalk.
He is familiar with that role, but such is our shortage of wingers you can see him playing left wing more often than not.

Taylor played well yesterday. He’s developing, he’s a good footballer, and will only get better.

Re: Left back
Our back 4 is our strength because they are all experienced defenders. Putting a midfielder back there could lose that solidity. Great to having him coming upfield whipping in crosses but I’d rather have a proper FB who can do that.

Re: Left back
I think with Taylor we've got to give him a chance this season. It get's caught out of position alot but sometimes recovers, he gets in great crossing positions but mostly screws them up..........but...........imagine if he got better at them. I say we persist with him and encourage him

Re: Left back
Not a bad shout at all, could turn defence into attack extremely quickly as well with him there, however it is unlikely
Re: Left back
All my Leeds supporting Yorkshire friends were gutted when Charlie Taylor joined us. They viewed his loss as a bigger problem for them compared to Chris Wood. Which was a bit of a surprise. I don’t know if CT is under strict instructions to focus on the defending part of his game by Sean but it’s strange that a full back with a reputation for providing great flat crosses at pace into the strikers has to date with us either passed back/sideways when in a good position or ballooned a cross over which is taken easily by the keeper (or over hit). CT is a great full back, he is just taking a bit of time to settle + hit top form.

Spot on Cuban.Taylor kept Ryan Fraser quiet and Charlie cut out several crosses.Hes developing into a quality defender and his Leeds style tackling only adds to his progress.Wardy is on the wane and Charlie is the ideal replacement.
We just need to encourage him to use his excellent crossing ability more.

While Taylor looks a little slow, and terrible at crossing he was actually very good defensively yesterday (near penalty aside). Dyche is clearly trying to get him in now. Hopefully with consistent games he gains confidence.

Re: Left back
The last thing Taylor needs is dropping.
He is nowhere near as bad as some people would have you believe. Yes, he is still learning at this level, and he occasionally gets caught out, but so do Tarks and Mee, and no one suggests dropping either of them.
He has what it takes, and he needs our support to get him to deliver. How many players over the last 6 years have been written off after a slow start, only to become a fans favourite in time. Barnes, Marney............... I could go on.

Re: Left back
Think if we play with a back three he would slot in nicely. If not and I cannot see this happening under SD then he would be exposed. One thing people don't mention with Taylor is that he is good defensively in the air. Like Ben Mee when he played LB he rarely will be beaten aerially by a wide player and really attacks the ball well

Think that was after olympiakos away. Many reasons for our defensive performances in early season. Not sure why people can’t see that. We get a clear week and we play better and I suspect even better with the correct personnel.Devils_Advocate wrote:and Fulham

Re: Left back
Anyone remember Kieron Trippier under Eddie Howe?
Great attacking fullback and provider of many a goal for Charlie Austin but defensively left wanting.
Sean Dyche reigned in his attacking instincts for a while and improved his all round game no end.
Maybe we'll see the same end result with Charlie Taylor.
Here's hoping.

Pulled out of a 50/50 right in front of the away fans near the end tonight, it was Stanislas-esque and the bloke's a defender. Can forgive a lack of ability but not a lack of effort.

Right in front of where we were stood - he just let the Burton player take the ball. I’ve been one of Ward’s biggest supporters but I cannot and will not accept that. Very odd from a player so usually committed.mickleoverclaret wrote:Pulled out of a 50/50 right in front of the away fans near the end tonight, it was Stanislas-esque and the bloke's a defender. Didn't appreciate the belmtard hurling profanities at him about how he's 'finished' and 'this is the end of your Burnley career, you are a disgrace' amongst other insults.
It wasn't a bit of a moan neither, you'd think Ward had been stealing a wage for 4 years by the way he was talking... Really disgusting stuff.
Me and a few others soon told him to shut up and **** off, but still...

Ward is a good player. I like him.
Some of you need a good head wobble.
Both Taylor and Ward have plus points. Neither have played this season with our best midfield. No player has yet.
Where is that pram? Some toys need returning.........

Re: Left back
I've been saying Ward isn't the same player since he returned from his injury last winter. Whether it's age or a niggly hangover from his injury I don't know, but he's not been the Stephen Ward we know and love for quite some time. He was Mr. Dependable in the two years previous, I don't think I ever scored him less than a 7, but he's not been good this calendar year, not good at all. Hence the emergence of Charlie Taylor. I think Sean has had to try and get him up to speed because he's clearly our first choice left back now.

Yeah, the two youngish lads (who looked like they might struggle to run a bath, let alone the length of the football pitch) screaming abuse at him towards the end were well out of order.
But he wasn't great again, but again, probably not as bad as you think because we lost in a daft way.

Remember this is a player who we are being told needs injections in his knees in order to play, he’s bound to struggle.

Re: Left back
It’s interesting that after a shocker of a result, the left back does not end up as the worst rated player on the pitch (see ratings thread) apart from the odd person.
In terms of defensive ability Ward and Taylor are premier league versus league 1 as over 40% prem league win rate versus 11% shows.
If Ward is past it (which I don’t think personally) it doesn’t mean Taylor is good enough.
We need a new left back if that is the case.
As for tonight, the manager imo keeps making too many changes to the team and needs to get some consistency between games. This has been part of the issue this season as the left arm does not know what the right arm is doing half the time.
I bet we made less personnel changes between all games last season than this season so far....that says it all

Whilst I to saw the 50/50 ball that was really more 60/40 for ward and he just seemed to give up (as the gentleman in front highlighted with words of disgraceful and you are taking a wage for this) I did wonder if he was told not to do any silly challenges that could result in further injury, but needs some game time to get back to full fitness.

Not at all, just don't see the need to scream that level of abuse.
To be fair, there were a couple of proper "lads" shouting at them for screaming abuse from my right, and that doesn't help either.
