Grobbelaar went on to play in many more intimidating atmospheres throughout his career, and was the target of many objects thrown from crowds.
"I've had a lot of things thrown at me. A lot of coins that had been sharpened, billiard balls, and I had a dart thrown at my back at Burnley," he says. "And potatoes with razor blades."
Good arra's!
Obviously we are in a different age, potatoes with razor blades in?! Mental!

I find that hard to believe in the 90’s.

I remember him saying that at the time, or perhaps a year or two afterwards. From the Cricket Field End, if I remember rightly; certainly during the 82-83 League Cup Semi-Final. It stuck in his thick goalie jersey, fortunately.

"Grobbelaar's achievements during his playing career were overshadowed when in 1994, it was alleged he had accepted money to throw matches.
He was ultimately cleared at court and still denies the allegations, but says the period blighted his career."
Haha
Understated as ever.
"Alleged" my bottom. He's on video taking the money.

Reading back through the article I thought it said after Heysal which would have been in the 90’s the next time he faced us but his quotes don’t actually say that.

Here's a better description of the match fixing episode undertaken by this dishonest little grubber:

I remember him pulling funny faces towards the children in the front row of the Cricketfield Stand and finding time to lie down and relax in his penalty area during play. Great banter with the supporters. One of the last few characters in the game.

The dart incident was definitely at the Beehole end not the Cricket Field end... ( I was a witness at Burnley Court)...

"I know, lets take these darts to the ground and throw them at Bruce Grobbelaar!"
someone once said.

No surprise that the scousers are still convinced of his innocence, either.

Wasn't the last time he played against us at Oldham?
That 3-3 draw?

I think it would have been. Played against us for Plymouth a year or two before that as well I think.

We are lucky enough to have this guy at our Sportsmans on Friday night at Enfield CC, maybe one of us could ask him? A few tickets still left by the way
